Also for me dropping right shoulder down, as I open the right forearm and elbow towards the sky as you suggest. greatly facilitates my ability to shift my weight onto the lead foot- a big problem . for me. Brilliant video.

You are giving away all the secrets for better ball striking. Wonderful

Hi Russell. Been subscribed with you for years. For a Iong time playing at a reasonable level, and always liked to introduce the heel before the toe on the downswing. You were the first, and to this day the only person making me aware of the trail arm, and the elbow first. For the last 3 weeks I have thought of the trail arm facing the sky, which is an exaggerated version of heel first. I have taken this to (my) extreme when practicing, and gone back to my 7.5 degree 983k Titleist and the feeling of being a great swing is returning. My (feel) has to be swinging well right of target, but must (actually) forcefully push off left foot to create the firm left side, and direction to target. I do still take lessons at age 70, and between those, and taking in really good info. from yourself, really looking forward to the new season. It does really make a difference being retired and able to practice 5 to 6 times per week. I do realise the commitment in time and energy to make the videos, so would like to say thanks again for your excellent posts.

Gorgon as a 69 year old I totally agree,at the top of the swing left leg bent right leg straightens, the transition of slightly more left leg bend left shoulder and hip lower slightly before pushing left leg into the ground not up but back which opens the left hip and allows the arms to go through .I have an orange whip that I can thoroughly recommend as this instantly gives you the left leg feel on the downswing during your warmup practise swing.

@@garrymajor7528 Hi Gary. The best thing is we still enjoy playing. and by the look of your reply, still trying to improve. As I come from Scotland, and since retiring I very seldom play on the course during winter, but instead practice almost every day. This is not for everybody, but I genuinely love it, and although not able to hit the ball as far, have never swung the club better. Looking forward to the new season. Cheers, and a good new season to yourself.

What I can't seem to reconcile in my head, is how in the heck does the club make it to the gound with the forearm pointed to the sky.

The swing-thought I was given in the 90s to achieve this is to imagine you have a plate in your right hand and you're passing it flat to someone who's behind you.

Hey linda, your trail forearm should point to the sky at the top of the backswing til the club's about parallel to the ground, then it's gonna slowly turn towards your target until u make contact w/ the ball, at that point, it should be facing close to 45 degrees ( about halfway from straight up and straight across to where your target is) hope that helps ;)

Absolutely love this demonstration of how your whole body needs to look at the moment of impact, and how to get to that point thru the downswing. Thx a million Russ!! 🫡👍

You say we don't want to scoop and rotate, but doesn't the pivot eliminate the negative effects of an early release?

Not for the first time, I am getting a little confusing. How does this reconcile with Pete Cowan’s advice to spin the right forearm downward as you approach the ball on the downswing?

If I focus on moving my R elbow to my hip ánd keeping my forearm towards the sky, I tend to open up the club face because my RH palm also wants to face the sky, leading to me flipping the club in order to square it up at impact. Confusing me this video
