Eh it’s got a little science too it, won’t work for shit but the post is accurate. Women naturally produce some testosterone, nowhere near as much as men though. Testosterone is also a precursor for the body producing estrogen, both men and women need some in different quantities. High stress environments can cause interruptions in the hormone cycle in women, altering the production of estrogen, this can result in higher testosterone levels. But it’s not enough for it to have any androgenising effects, at most it’s just going to make the woman feel like crap due to the hormone imbalance.
That might be true, but typically "female" jobs can be also very stressful? Like being a nurse in intensive care or like watching 10 toddlers in a kindergarten. Or getting shouted at by customers in a sales jobs....

Fun fact: it's illegal to restrict school uniforms based on sex in Poland, so if your school allows skirts, boys are allowed to wear skirts, and if your school allows shorts, girls are allowed to wear shorts. Shoulda challenged my middle school teachers informing them they're breaking the law.

Back in the 90’s I chatted with this girl going to a Catholic school, and she said her school instituted a gender neutral slacks and shirt policy because policing the skirt length for girls’ uniform had become a nightmare and staff felt uncomfortable breaking out the measuring tape to see much skin was exposed above the knee.
Yep, I went to a coed Catholic high school (in Canada) and while I was there, the entire Catholic school board was in the process of transitioning uniforms towards a gender neutral version where everyone wore pants. Girls at my school were constantly getting in trouble for uniform violations because their kilts were too short/high. Now everyone wears pants.
I went to a Catholic high school in the early 2000s and the year before I started they changed the girls uniform to pants only. We didn’t wear ties (the boys had to wear ties except when it was really hot outside at the end of the year-no AC except in the computer room!) and though at the time I thought it was a bad choice to take away skirts and skorts looking back all pants everything was pretty great

I had a hysterectomy about 12 years ago due to extreme endometriosis. My father says that I am not a woman because I do not have a uterus and ovaries. Pretty sad that there are so many closed minded people. There are so many ways to educate ones self in 2023. I try to educate myself on many issues so that I know certain things...I do not want people to feel bad. I love people and want to respect them.

I had a hysterectomy at 27, many years ago. I spent time on a website for women having hysts. One woman told me she was really struggling with her hysterectomy and wanted to know how I handled not being a woman anymore. I felt so bad for her. We wound up having a conversation about what makes a woman a woman. I don't think she understood what I was saying, sadly. For her, woman=childbearing. That leaves out any afab who is infertile. Is it genes? No, because there are all sorts of gene combos that produce a female-appearing body. So what makes a woman a woman? In my opinion, it's the mind. Sure, your genes are your genes, but that's just genetics. Who am I to tell someone else about their self-identy?
I have never wanted children. I first asked for a hysterectomy at 16. This started years of "you're too young to know what you want" to "you might change your mind" or my personal favorite "your future husband might want kids." Eventually, I stopped asking. Then, I found out I just don't have eggs, so conception wasn't going to happen anyway. Still, no hysterectomy, because "why bother now?" So now, at 47, I had to have a terribly invasive and fairly risky six-hour open hysterectomy to remove a THREE-POUND fibroid. If any of the roughly dozen doctors I'd talked to over the years just did what I asked, it would have been a much easier surgery not fraught with any of my current complicating factors. TL'; DR - Women don't get to have our health decisions respected, or our experiences valued.

I’m 44 now and I still get…”but you might still get married!” Nah. I’m good. I started my period when I was 9. I was wearing an underwire by 10. I went to a Catholic school, so no one knew what to do with me. My parents insisted that having large breasts made me unattractive and fat and that’s why I didn’t have any friends. I got a reduction when I was 23 only to find out that men like curves. I got made fun of for having “birthing hips”. According to my doctor, my pelvic bone is wide but the hole in the middle is extremely narrow and tilted at an odd angle. That’s why I’ve never been able to wear tampons. My periods are too heavy, but I can only fit the smallest size tampons up there. Even then, tampon still feels like it’s going to fall out and I’m not putting it in wrong. It’s also why sex isn’t an enjoyable experience for me. It either hurts or I don’t feel anything at all. My doctor said if I ever got pregnant, she’d automatically sign me up for a C-section. So now I’ve got scars all over my boobs. I’d never be able to lactate to breastfeed. I’ve lost that ability. I have no desire to have sex ever again because it doesn’t feel good. It’s not going to feel good. Why put myself through that let alone some poor guy who’s trying his best? I’m 44 and I still get lectured about how it’s not too late and don’t give up just yet! I’ve started whipping out pictures of my pets now when I get the talk. “Meet your granddaughter.” Tortoise. “Don’t roll your eyes at her! Where are you going??”
I am a trans man, but even before I realized my identity I was treated like this I have always had ridiculously bad periods (cramps so bad I throw up, bleeding so bad I could go through a Super Plus tampon in 2 hours-even making me anemic at one point, severe insomnia and sleep problems, hot flashes, and more as PMS symptoms) and when we went to the GYNO I was put on BC meds when I was young to help control it, but it never worked. I've tried 3 different pills, the Nuvaring vaginal hormones, the Nexplanon implant in my arm, the patches, the Mirena IUD, even at some points stacking multiple methods on top of each other because one wasn't enough Even on two BCs, my periods never stopped completely, but more pressing was that about a week before my period, I would get this absolutely awful experience I just called an "Episode" where I was nauseous and vomiting , unable to eat or even drink water, too nauseous to sleep, severe hot flashes and cold chills, dizziness, shakiness, impending sense that I was going to die, and more for 2-4 days I would just spend days (and nights because I couldn't sleep) every month curled up on the bathroom floor crying because of how awful I felt. It was so awful and my family watching me suffer got so bad that we agreed that if I ever got to the point where I had more "episode" days than normal days, my life wouldn't be worth living and I would end my existence. I have multiple other chronic conditions that leave me in constant pain and nausea and dizziness, but it was nothing compared to my episodes Because it was monthly, I went to 3 different OB/GYNs, because it was probably hormonal I went to an endocrinologist, and was then referred to an Endocratic Gynecology clinic at my local medical university. I also saw 3 different gastroenterologists(GI), with nobody having an answer. Because of the timing and the correlation, the best guess was some ovary malfunction. I begged and pleaded to get a hysterectomy+oophorectomy to end my Episodes but because I was 17, the OBs wouldn't even consider it, despite me suffering immeasurably and my other conditions making me not likely to be able to hold a pregnancy anyway. I also DID NOT want children (I'm autistic and could not handle the sensory overload) plus my other conditions are genetic and I'd NEVER want to see a child grow up in as much pain as I did. My partner at the time (now my husband 💙) also has many detrimental genetic traits in his family (scoliosis, severe asthma, type1 diabetes, severe allergy to mosquito bites, and more) so even with him standing beside me saying that HE didn't want children either (so they couldn't use the "what if your partner wants kids?? Stupid argument) they wouldn't even consider it. I suggested once that if my problem was the female hormones, what if I tried testosterone?? (Trans egg moment for sure) and she literally laughed in my face and told me what with my other conditions it would absolutely ruin my heart health (the links to T and heart problems is dubious at best) I just went on suffering for 4 years Deciding to try to get my health under control so I could maybe get an actual job, I go to a new (4th!!) GI and within 30 minutes he sent me home with a whole packet on Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome, and there, on the second page it said that people with estrogen intolerances can often have their ovulation triggering their CVS The whole time I was intolerant to the hormones my body produced, and I had to go to so many doctors and fight for my right to be honestly considered instead of being brushed off I got on a Progesterone-only BC med that would help suppress the effects of Estrogen, and my "episodes" improved drastically, both in severity and duration, and I can actually do basic tasks while dealing with them *One trans realization later* I was terrified to talk to a doctor about getting on T because of what that OB said, I nearly cried the multiple times the week before because I was so scared I wouldn't get to transition medically the way I wanted Show up, have a long discussion with the provider, find out that that previous OB didn't know what she was talking about at all. This provider had the actual medical data, and it showed IMPROVEMENT OF SYMPTOMS in AFAB people with my condition being on testosterone. I literally cried when I was able to get a prescription for T, and it has already changed me so much more than I expected it to in little time. I guess because my body didn't really tolerate Estrogen, finally getting a hormone it can fully process worked wonders. I wonder now if a lot of my dysphoria and other problems were strengthened by not processing estrogen, but after only 2 months on T I already have more and darker hair (including on my face which I was told wouldn't happen for 6+months) and other changes that only make me happier and more secure in my identity. I am now pursuing a Hysto/Oopho through the "gender affirming" routes, but it's an absolute TRAGEDY that I, as an adult, cannot choose to get a (not really) elective surgery to drastically improve my medical health, because of some theoretical "future husband" that may or may not want children, and I am expected to not do what's best for me to bend to the whims of some theoretical interests of a theoretical man that "deserves" more control over my body than I have With being sick while having estrogen, it really feels like I was "meant" to be trans, all the compassion to women's experience to not make me misogynistic, as well as dating men as a "woman" and seeing their predatory/dismissive behaviors made me a better man, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I finally got the treatment I needed, but it's absolutely ridiculous that I had to weasel my way into other medical practices instead of being able to get the surgery I would need to live a happier life. If my husband had something wrong with his testicles that made him sick, he would NEVER be questioned other than the "this could make you infertile and you need to sign this so you cant sue me for it" waiver, they'd likely never even ask a man for their current partner's option, and so inventing some theoretical "future partner" would be absolutely unheard of. Why can't all humans be treated with equal value and full bodily autonomy???

That doctor has probably encountered something like that before to actually recognize a condition that I’m guessing is very rare! Good for you for never giving up advocating for yourself! I’m on a Depo Shot right now because my doctor doesn’t want me having periods either. I started puberty when I was about 8 or 9 years old. My periods were like monsoon season. Instead of 3-5 days of period, I’d have about a week off my period every month. I didn’t get cramps really, but my IBS would get worse. Every day I’d go to school wearing my uniform skirt, a pair of boxers, 8 pairs of underwear, and 2-3 overnight pads. I’d have to change those pads every 2 hours. If I didn’t, I’d likely stand up to find a puddle on my chair. The school nurse started stocking up on pads just for me, but all she could get were liners or small ones for the average girl just starting. She had to use her own money to get overnights or maternity pads for me. She also couldn’t help me when I leaked. All she could do was rinse my shirt, let it dry a little in front of a fan, and send me back to class. Ah, Catholic school! I was anemic and on iron supplements by 13. I’d get up every morning, pass out, get ready for school, and eat something before catching the bus. I love my Depo shot. I tried other birth control treatments and I still had a period, but at least they were manageable and only lasted a week! I was shocked when I saw my doctor while on my period. It was a particularly light period for me and I was raving about how liberating it was! She gave me an exam and told me I was still bleeding entirely too much. She switched me to the shot right away and said she didn’t want me having a period at all. I was shocked! “This is a pretty light day though! You mean to tell me normal girls have even less than this and only 10 days is still too long?? And they don’t find a snack cup size of tissue clot in their pads every other day??” “Yeah. That’s not normal.” “Holy crap! And I thought this was an awesome next to nothing period!” The last time I had my period was during quarantine because I lapsed on my shot and I’m doing so much better! I never would have thought that someone could be intolerant of estrogen! Of all things! I don’t think that’s what I have, but your story is such an encouragement to trust your gut and keep advocating for yourself! Thank you for sharing!!
Every time I read or hear stories like this, I always remember that Ted Talk speech by Christen Reighter called "I don't want children -- stop telling me I'll change my mind". She expresses it so well. It's unfortunate & frustrating so many women are still treated this way.

For a while, I was only focusing on my (mainly aesthetic) attraction to male characters/celebrities, so I figured I was gay, and then it occurred to me that a lot of my major (mainly aesthetic) crushes growing up were women and I'm attracted to a MUCH wider range of women than men. Men can be handsome/pretty/etc, but a LOOOT of women are. "Women glorious" indeed.

The c-section thing hit me. It kicked me in the gut. I was a c-section baby because if I wasn't, I would've died. The umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck and I was facing the wrong way. There were NO other options. I would have died and my birth mom could have too. Having a life saving surgery that wasn't even her choice doesn't make her any less of a woman.

People tell me all the time that I just haven’t found the right guy and it’ll magically be more enjoyable when I find the one. Nope! I’m just not built that way.

My brother once brought up the point about women not getting drunk or going out alone if they didn't want to get SA'd. Yeah. At the school my 3 kids went to, Sex Ed was taught by an actual nurse, to all of the middle school students. Same curriculum, regardless of gender. There was the option to have them excused. I had concerns about the parents who wanted their kids excused from it. I did not excuse any of mine. And if anyone is wondering, my kids (now grown up) are all different genders.
My school literally sent HIGH SCHOOL FRESHMEN home with a consent form for parents to sign if they wanted their kid to be exempt from sex ed classes. And it had stipulations too. So you could sign off on your literal teenager going to sex ed, but there was a box you could check if you wanted them to be exempt from anything 'too sexual', like diagrams of genitalia, talk about STDs, or pictures/videos of childbirth. And then people wondered why there were always like 7 pregnant students every year...
Acting like period pains are all normal and the same are how people who have conditions like endometriosis and PCOS go undiagnosed for years. We actually shouldn't act like, "Oh yeah, these intense pains I'm experiencing are a totally normal part of menstruation, because everyone tells me so," and instead should be having girls get checked for these conditions at a young age.
Yep. That's why it took me four doctors to find someone who took "I pass out from my cramps" seriously. They would just chuck birth control at me and suggest I try ibuprofen, you know the thing I'd already told them did squat. And I'm trans as well. But doc#4 did give me a hysterectomy and the pain was a joke compared to my periods. I was basically just sore and tired, and even took fewer narcotics after surgery than I did for several periods.
@@KaleighCee Not necessarily true. I had pretty bad cramps and went through several types of painkillers over time as they would stop working. The only thing I found that didn't stop working was Advil. The bad cramps were a result of endometriosis, which involves inflammation; I think the Advil worked because it is an anti-inflammatory.
About 2 years ago, I was wearing a skirt and a guy I knew (we were not friends and still are not) tried to look up it to seek if I was trans. I'm not and it wouldn't matter even if I was. Another time about 7 months ago, I was waiting in a line and some guys walked past, looked me up and down, then one of them said "I hope she's not a minor" I am currently a sophomore in high school and 15 years old. I was 13 for the first one and 14 for the second. I do and have always looked my age. It disgusts me

Because I have ADD and zone out a lot and am Asexual people thought they could take advantage of me alone and so people I cared for tried protecting me as best as they could but sometimes there were times I was still alone and those were the times I got SA'ed a lot in highschool. Lots of "gay guys" and other strangers and stuff would come up and grope my breasts and I had one friend who "TACO"-ed me where he'd run up and literally "grab me by the you know what" which really hurt (and yes, I did defend myself every time and people defended me too if they saw it happen and this was in early 2000's and we would report it and teachers did jack crap, so... but it sucked. So I stopped wearing skirts after a few times of this happening and started doing the skirts/dresses over pants things because then I could still feel good but be protected.

I am cis female, I had both poly- cystic ovarian disease & endometriosis, both which increased my testosterone, I gave birth to 3 beautiful children and as soon as I was done having kids my cervix tried to kill me so they took it all out. The whole belief women need to give birth vaginally and without meds to be a "real mom" is insane. I have heard moms telling other moms well you're not a real mom yet as you had meds and or you had a c-section. One woman even went as far as to say "Oh so you're an adoptive mom not a real mom." to a mom who had to have an emergency c-section to save her and her baby. When she tried to say no she's a real mom the other mom absolutely lost it. They claim having either of those doesn't allow for the natural processes to occur that make it so you can not properly bond with the baby therefore you are not a real mom. How anyone can believe that is insane and rude to all those moms who did what they needed to do to have a safe birth and to adoptive moms.
I had my kids vaginally. Like you are 'supposed' to to bond with them. Pft. Still ended up getting post partum depression with both and struggled to bond in the beginning. So even doinh it the 'right'way didn't work. So she should just mind her business...
@fart63 I'm so glad your sisters were able to get the help they needed. As long as mom and the baby/babies are safe that's what counts. I hope they both had speedy recoveries. One huge problem with babies is they grow up way too fast. It's fun watching them develop their own little or big in some cases personalities and watching them grow.
@artikulv731 I have known moms who had their babies the "right" way as they call it and were the worst parents ever. I 100% agree with you that you don't have to be the kids bio parent to truly love them. My sister has adopted several of our younger siblings and they are her kids now. They get the same amount of love and care as her bio kids do. Heck my friends kids look up to me as their parent and they don't care what anyone thinks about it either. I'm their family and have been there for them regardless of what they're dealing with that's how family should be.

when i was (a girl) in high school all i ever wore were flannel shirts and the baggiest jeans i could find. pretty sure any random dude would have been just as comfortable in my wardrobe. i did not "need" skirts or specially tailored pants to "reflect my biological differences." put me in a tarp, i'm happy.

I'm from a country where uniforms separated by gender are common, and I always thought they were silly because of a great detail, the weather, here the cold starts in September and ends in April, I include the rainy season, the cold is so bad it was normal to see elementary school girls shivering, so at the request Angry Mothers we got months in which we can wear pants, and even then it is not enough just the month of December and January, some schools don't let you enter the building if you are wearing pants after those two months. there were girls who pretended to be male students at the entrance to continue wearing pants and others jumped the back fence of the school to enter and the biggest slap in the face or "solution" waa the school was to saying that thick socks would solve everything, white socks of course, they would do something against the rain, mud & freezing cold, o an no leggings, they were not allowed. My mom ignored that recommendation and bought 5 pairs of white leggings and shoes that would hide that they were legins so that I wouldn't freeze to death, and yes I was part of that group of girls that jumped the school fence to take my classes, they were not going to deny me my education for something as silly as a uniform. It wasn't until I entered university that I could be warm in winter, because from kindergarten to high school you wore a uniform.
My son recently had sex educatiton at school, they still separate the classes and only bother to teach minimal information on periods and the uturus to one half. Knowing that grown men cannot grasp that urine and period blood do not come out of the same hole, I made sure to teach him everything on my own so he doesn't become a moron that believes babies float around in a bladder full of piss.
That is insane. Sex education is very important. I went to school in the 1980s and it wasn't even an issue. I really don't understand places and countries that don't do this.

Ironically, the "vagina bones" is commonly called an Adonis belt or an Apollo belt (though I'm not about to tell Apollo he can't have a vagina if he wants one). In art, it's called the iliac furrows, it's where muscles run from your iliac crest to your pubis. Greek statuary featured it heavily. It is usually associated with men, particularly body builders. I've never heard it called a vagina bones before!
A while ago I was having one of those "What is a Woman" discussions here on RUclips, and I asked a transphobic guy to define a woman for me, since I don't have a precise definition that is able to fit every woman. The most absurd thing he said was that women had two pelvis... I laughed so hard I couldn't even breath!
I had a partial hysterectomy (kept my ovaries) when I was 32. I was in a car accident a few years later and while in the emergency room, one of the questions I was asked was "are you pregnant?" I said no and the nurse was like "are you sure?" in a rather condescending way and I went "I HAVE NO UTERUS, YES I'M SURE!" She moved to the next question.
Years ago I was admitted to the hospital with uncontrolled vomiting due to a reaction to an antibiotic prescribed for a very painful UTI. At least that was the hypothesis. Pretty sure after the fact that it was a kidney stone. Anyway, after being asked if I was pregnant for the third time in 3 or 4 hours with the are you sure followup I finally lost my patience with people who can't be bothered to read the chart notes and replied, "Why, is there a star and 3 wise men outside? Stopped the nurse cold. "What?" "Well, I wasn't pregnant 3 hours ago when I was admitted and answered that question and I haven't had sex since then so either I'm still not pregnant or there's been a miracle." The only snark I've ever regretted was the snark not said.

I am a medical professional to be and usually it's hard to have a clear pregnancy diagnosis in the first months, so for me is kinda ok to double check if that's the case. Unless it's clearly impossible like in an hysterectomy as above. So sometimes even if a patient say no it could be an unknown pregnancy.
@@ScrokyTheFallen If it's unknown then it's unknown. The patient isn't going to have a sudden flash of insight when asked the second (3rd, 4th) time. In my case I'm Ace and was still a virgin even though I was in my twenties so barring supernatural intervention I was absolutely certain and to be honest it came across that either the nurses were too lazy to read the chart notes from when I had been asked that a couple of times before OR they thought I was lying and would crack and tell the truth if they asked often enough. I was leaning towards lazy but who knows. Maybe to an allosexual the idea that someone might just not be having sex is a hard concept to understand. If the patient says that they haven't had sex within the last say 3 or 4 months and there's no reason to believe they are lying then note that down and move on. If you really, really need to be sure give them a pregnancy test before whatever the procedure is that's a danger to a fetus.
Doctors and nurses in front of you don't know you. They usually don't think you are stupid but they also know that miscommunication is the stupidest error they could medically do. The second check is basically too ask " do you think you're not pregnant because you don't want to, you have a birth control (which is not 100% sure) or you don't have any signs in that sens? OR are you sure because you checked lately, you physically can't etc...? Many people will answer no to this question because they think they're not. Not because they are big immature babies, just because sometimes it's hard to know or to accept to be pregnant. I would double check too...

I had just been in a car accident and she was talking down to me like I was a simpleton. Don't appreciate that. What the actual eff on the "it's biologically necessary for female children to wear skirts"??? I'm AFAB nonbinary and the only memories I have of skirts in school uniforms is being extremely uncomfortable in them even before I started realizing I had gender dysphoria. Like, there was an element of literal uncomfyness as well as just feeling upset. I didn't have "proper birthing hips" lol I was twelve. Not everybody has the perfect cliche gendered body even after puberty either! I've always been unable to fit into "women's" shirts because I just happened to be born with wider shoulders than most men. So it's just absurd to me to think of forcing kids to wear skirts out of a bizarre patronising "it's better for you sweetie~" excuse... Felt way more comfy literally and mentally once I transferred to a school that let you choose trousers!

Actually, tampons can cause this thing called "toxic shock" where all your organs start shutting down one by one 😁 It's pretty rare, but it has happened. The chance increases it you are sick at the time! So technically pads are the safer option! So just tell your friend that She is more likely to die from toxic shock. (I would have looked up the statistics but I can't get off my ass rn lol)
My periods were so heavy and had lots of clots, that I couldn't use a tampon. The clots would coat the outside of the tampon and I bleed through. The inside of it would be dry. I checked because it would leak in about a half hour. I wanted too, needed to found out if I was really bleeding that heavy. I had to go to pads.

The thing about the menstrual cyrcle being painful to "train your body for birthing" is something I actually believed until my girlfriend informed me in great shock that "no, it's painful because you basically have internal bleeding. On the other hand, a boy from her class asked during sex ed if the blood during period "comes out like a splatter movie".
It's not internal bleeding. It's uterine contractions pushing out the uterine lining. It's the same mechanism as childbirth contractions, but it's not in preparation for it. It's just the body doing the same thing.
Not really? The lining of the uterus thickens as it prepares for a fertilised egg to implant. When that doesn't happen, the lining just sloughs off. That's not the painful part. The uterus has to contract to push that lining out. Prostaglandins (which is kind of like a hormone, but isn't exactly) triggers the muscles of the uterus to contract. This substance is also associated with pain and inflammation, and people with higher levels of prostaglandins tend to have more severe menstrual cramps. Edit: And that's even before you get into the painful issues caused by stuff like endo, uterine fibroids, PVD, adenomyosis (when the uterine lining grows INTO the wall of the uterus), and cervical stenosis (when the opening of the cervix is smaller than usual and makes it harder for menstrual fluid to pass, resulting in a painful pressure increase in the uterus)
I don’t think it’s internal bleeding, or at least my education basically said that the lining of the uterus comes off. Shit’s nasty either way, gonna ditch having a period as soon as I legally can.

As a thin haired girl who couldn’t really grow it long and couldn’t do anything trendy with it (beach waves lasted about 10 mins in my hair no matter how much product there was), it was something I disliked hearing in church. I was apparently a bad Christian simply for not having better hair genes.
I’m a middle easterner in the US so I always had the thickest, longest, shiniest hair on my head…and hair on my brows, apparently, because I got rude comments from other girls as a literal child about having a unibrow because I had like three tiny stray hairs in the middle of my brows 😐 they like long hair…as long as it’s in the right place and just that right place 🤦♀️
What bothers me so much is that using this to say that women MUST have long hair and men MUST have short hair is cherry picking the text. What about Samson, who, as a part of his religious oath, could never cut his hair, and lost all the strength in his body when is was done against his will? Does he mean nothing to them? I'm a trans guy. I got my hair cut short because I was convinced that having/wanting long hair invalidated my gender identity. I know better now. I'm growing it out again so I can put hairsticks in it because I'm allowed to do whatever the hell I want with my hair. I am glad I cut it, though. It turns out that some of my father's genes include the tips of my hair getting all curled up when it grows back. It looks so soft and fluffy.
Aw, yeah my hair does that, too. I think I got it from my dad, too. I’m a woman and would LOVE to have short hair, but my hair grows so freaking fast that it’s impossible. @RosyKitteh Jealous! Even before I realized I was trans my hair never got as long as I wanted it. I would always get as little trimmed off as possible and still barely got it past my shoulder blades. I had been growing it since I was little, originally to donate to my mom's friend who had cancer. She died before that could happen, unfortunately. I always said I wanted Rapunzel-length hair. I also think short hair on women looks completely fine.

@NavaSDMB I once butchered my hair when I was really little. I mean, I just went at it with a pair of scissors. My mom had to fix it, and it ended up being barely past my ears. That was actually my trans awakening. I saw myself with short hair, realized I was boy (because my understanding of gender was really shallow back then), and then immediately went into the boy's bathroom at school. I believe I even managed to use a urinal successfully. Unfortunately, another boy saw me and told a teacher. She asked me what the hell I was doing, and when I said, "I'm a boy." she looked me dead in the eye, laughed, and said, "No." Cue about 7 or so years of unidentified general discomfort.

A friend of mine had a coworker who actually thought that women could control their bleeding while menstruating, like we can control our bladders. So he considered women who use feminine hygiene products lazy and didn't understand why we could't just potty-train. So… my mom was always the top earner in the family, pretty tough and pragmatic and the boss at home. My dad is a bit on the softer side, he’s rather artistic and sensitive. They have a great relationship, have been happily married for almost 40 years and successfully raised two sons, one of them is even cishet. It’s almost like people are individuals with differing levels of what society deems as masculinity/femininity 😱
Yea, what I have observed is that society doesn't see the bigger picture of femininity and masculinity and chose shoves things into those categories when they could also at times be put into the other. By today's standards the hardworking housewife would be considered masculine. There are women that are tomboys but they are still feminine, just with their own personality. I would also like to add that masculinity should be determined by a man's fatherlyness and how he makes sure his family is provided for, even if that means being a stay at home dad because some women have good jobs and make a decent amount of money that the father should just take care of home and kids. I had to have 2 c-sections because my pelvis wasn’t wide enough I received abu$e on Facebook from Christian extremist groups who stated that I wasn’t a real woman, I wasn’t a real mother and I had shamed myself in the eyes of god…🤦🏻♀️ I broke my back when I was 15 and it was all Lumbar spine, pelvis and coccyx damage. So that’s why my pelvis was not able to open during childbirth. But apparently I should have not been al!ve rather than had a caesarean….actual things said to me …. I love stories like that! having your gender be seen as so normal and natural is great. I met my transmasc friend years BEFORE he realized his gender identity, and I introduced him to other friends I had AFTER he was already fully presenting male and making his legal identity to reflect who he is. my friends didn’t even know he was trans until after a year of knowing him, and that really made me so happy. he’s never been treated differently than the cis straight guys (which is what almost the entire circle of friends is made up of) and after knowing him for so long it makes me super glad to see him truly being himself. he’s been on T for a year now (we all celebrated last month!) and is getting top surgery in a few weeks, it’s awesome. shoutout to logan ❤
As someone with IBS yes you can feel the process of digestion and it can cause pain and discomfort. That's one reason people believe those of us with IBS have such a bad time... Our brain doesn't block it out or we're more sensitive to it.
IBS pain is actually from the colon, where the muscle is contracting. The stomach is lined with a thick layer of mucus which stops the walls from getting digested, so you're only ever in pain if that layer goes away, which it can rarely.

I most often experience colon related pain and digestive difficulties, but if I happen to eat something and that my body will reject it, I can assure you that the pain will be coming from the stomach way earlier it'll be coming from the guts. 😭

As well as being creepy and inappropriate, I feel like the bit about school uniforms is actually them saying the quiet part out loud: that humans aren't THAT sexually dimorphic, and we often need other cues to inform us of whether someone is male or female. It's not that "females" NEED to wear blouses and skirts, it's that misogynists need "females" to be disallowed from wearing anything else, so they can gender people as Women or Men more easily. (also that bit about women "worshipping Satan" just made me think like...note to men, please don't confuse your niche sexual interests with facts that you can use to generalise people with, good LORD)
Its not even like blouses make a difference. They're literally cut to the same pattern but with the button placket on the other side. Even on hot days I wouldn't take my jumper off because the blouses supposedly designed to fit boobs didn't fit mine and I was only a 32C at the time. There was gaping between the buttons. Granted my bust is very high set on my chest so some of the issue could've been that all the space they did have was situated far lower down, but there certainly wasn't this amazing amount of space for boobs comoared to the boys shirts.
People who insist on men and women being so physically different need to stop thinking everyone is either a buff chad or an antique vase, the average human is quite similarly shaped across the board.
I'm afraid medically/biologically speaking that is very untrue. In fact, it's a huge problem in medicine and even things like car crash test dummies that there's only ever 1 "average human" model that doesn't take into account key differences in XX-chromosome biology.

My point is that these differences are not as extreme as one would be led to believe by seeing the idealized version of a man and woman by our collective conscience. Extremes that for most people are unattainable given they demand a specific genetic, an unsustainable lifestyle and a whole of costly and risky treatment and procedures.
This is so sensible! Also why there is no particular reason to have “Mens’ clothing” and “Womens’ clothing” in terms of physicality. It’s more about status (wearing the trousers), and restricting movement (corsets, petticoats etc). Fun for us all to get dressed up now and then though, in whatever we like.

My mom had to have a total hysterectomy after having me. Not trying to trauma dump,just explain why they decided this was the best option for my mom; She had a tumor that I hid when she was pregnant with me. It ruptured during my birth and almost killed her right after (she was taken into surgery and had to have 2 blood transfusions) and several more times over the next 2 years (in and out for 13 operations in my first 2 years of life) so with all that taken into consideration, it made sense. It's definitely not a good feeling knowing your life almost cost your mom's, I'll tell you that much.
No, it doesn't feel good, let me tell you. But what does feel good is when your mother makes it feel like it was a war bringing you into this world and that you're essentially a prize to have been won and you were worth it despite the fact you feel worthless (like I do, born with birth defects and being disabled mentally and physically my whole life). My mom was in labor 18 hours with me due to her doctor trying to force her to birth me via broken hips cause of his religious beliefs. Another doctor overwrote him when we both died on the table and then did a c-section. We both came out with issues and she's still suffering like I am to this day; her with a bunch of hernias and hypertension and me with all sorts of disabilities. She had my 2 sisters and talks about how it was worth it even though we feel so horrible.

My mom had 4 c-sections. The first 2 were because of medical emergencies that would have killed my siblings while she was in labor. The second 2 were because her uterus was too scarred from the first 2 c-sections. When people say you have to give birth through labor to be a real woman, I get so mad in particular because my mom is badass.
I agree with you so hard with the uniform one. I also saw something on Reddit on how sometimes the people see as "uniquely trans" problems when actually they can just be "human problems". My work have a uniform. We have a portal where you order uniform online (like free shopping 🎉) when you need something. I am a cis woman and the old system had me as a female and I could only order "female" uniform. The "female" uniform is more tight with a defined hip and waist. I probably could have called someone and said "please can I have "male" t-shirts or fleeces as I really hate my clothes touching me but I was a bit scared to. We now have a new system and I can order whichever uniform that I like and I can't describe how much more comfortable I feel.. I think there is still a way to go as it is still labelled "male" and "female" but I completely agree with you. Let's just have a uniform. If you want to pick the more fitted tops, go for it, if you want to pick the more "unfitted" version then go for it (might need a better name than unfitted....)
I relate to this so much, my school had totally nuteral uniforms and I loved it! But I was in a club that had gendered uniforms and I hated it the woman's pants literly didn't fit me at all

The uniform shirts my company uses are, interestingly enough, basically the same measurements for men’s and women’s, but the men’s are a lot longer. I have a long torso, so I have to wear camisoles under the women’s ones. Then I got some men’s ones and that helped a lot.
After being addicted to menstruation for 27 years (I get it every 22 days, can you believe?) I will finally be cured next year when I get a hysterectomy! Can't wait!

There's a literal study where you swallow Barium so they can see how your digestion works due to conditions like hEDS. I work fine mostly but food goes down very slow in my esophagus (GERD) and causes issues due to my hEDS and I have done the Barium Swallow test and it was weird yet fun. So yes, digestion can be painful. IBS-M is what I have. People are idiots.

I can kind of see the "your body is God's, then your husband's, and then yours" coming from a thing I was taught in Christians as a child: the way to have true happiness is to have/think of JOY - Think of Jesus, then others, and finally yourself. Which is still a way to lead a child to stay in abusive situations. Also: when I finally got approval for my sterilization, my fucking THERAPIST asked me if my boyfriend was okay with it. I said it didn't matter as it's MY body and she came back with "well it's kind of his too.." (Thinking we were about to get married. We still haven't gotten there, and that person is now my girlfriend. I have a different therapist now.) The AMOUNT of times at my small, religious college that I was answered with "well what if your husband wants kids??" when I told someone I'm staunchly childfree just.. boggles the mind. Don't they think that's something to discuss BEFORE getting married? Don't they think that'd be a dealbreaker?? My standard answer was and has always been "I wouldn't marry someone who wants kids. So no, if I ever have a husband he won't want kids. I wouldn't marry someone who does." (Sorry. comment turned into a full-on vent.)

I've done a deep dive into fundamental Christianity and it's worse than that. It means a woman has to let her husband use her like an object. Don't feel like sex? Too bad, you'll make God mad if you turn your husband down, and if he forces you, that's not r@pe, it's him using his "rights" to your body. Want to cut your hair or wear a short skirt? Not unless your husband approves. Can't handle another child/pregnancy? Sucks for you, if hubby demands it, you do it. I've had bowel spasms/cramping in the actual intestines and that's actually pretty damned painful (this happens to me because my neurological system is messed up, but it's not the ordinary movement of the intestines). As someone whose period pains were always mild, that was far worse for me. There's a range of pain from periods, and people with severe pain shouldn't be treated as if their pain is mild just because it is for some people. Though fun fact: a fair amount of period cramping isn't from the uterus but instead from the abdominal muscles, so some people experience severe cramps even post hysterectomy or having been born without a uterus but having certain hormonal ranges.

My school finally decided to give girls pants for winter (because y’know, IT’S FREEZING) and instead of just letting them wear the same pants as the boys, they designed an ENTIRE NEW PAIR OF PANTS because they didn’t want us to “be mistaken for the boys”. 1. I’m nonbinary (AFAB), I would’ve been so fuckin happy to wear boys’ pants. 2. It costs even more than the boys’ pants. 3. It’s designed for people with a hourglass figure. It’s a pair of pants that girls are only allowed to wear half the year. And it’s still so fuckin’ bad.

They're actually made for an hourglass figure? That's incredible. I still haven't found any trousers that properly fit an hourglass figure. Even when my waist was only 10" smaller than my hips it was a nightmare finding ones big enough in the hips and thighs and small enough at the waist. But when I gained weight & it all went to my bust & hips/thighs even more its now become impossible. Nowhere offers trousers for a 30" waist and 44" hips without them being fully custom made. When I was at school I had the 10" difference and trousers for women were usually made for a 7" or 8" difference at most. Little has changed now. I'd be super surprised if they were actually making kids uniforms with the hips 10" larger than the waist since they don't even do it for adults. People who are rule figures tend to assume that they will suit hourglass figures, but those of us who actually have the figures know its very much not true. I'd hate to wear men's trousers as they have even less curve to them. I've tried my partner's on & they didn't fit at all. I've given up trying to find trousers. I just stick to leggings & dresses now. I'm also nonbinary afab but have no desire to wear anything that doesn't fit or isn't comfortable. Nonbinary doesn't mean "if you were afab try to look more androgynous or manlike" to me. 26:23 in my school we had divers or joggers (it's called buzos in spanish, i'm latino and don't remember what was called in english) as school uniform, everyone loved it because it was comfy and the same for boys and girls. I always loved it because when i cutted my hair to look more boyish i was able to pass more easly with the school uniform (and i was very muscular so i just needed the haircut). Even when i graduted the guy taking the photos called me son and i appear in that photo with a big smile because of it XD.
Not really tho, the crease is a groove at the border between the belly and the thigh (highly more visible when sitting down)... Definitely not a "bone". Although there are some ligaments in that same area, and they're sometimes called "the Michelangelo muscle..." tho again, not a bone. 🙃
5 years ago I buzzcut my hair and I did get a few strange reactions from people. Because it's perfectly normal for a guy to buzzcut their hair but aparently not for a woman. 5 years later I still buzzcut my hair because I love it and I feel sexy with my super short hair, and everyone who doesn't agree with it can piss off!
Regarding the hair thing, ironically in the 1700s the men wore wigs because long hair was linked to vitality & good health. The court wigs we have here in the U.K. are left over from that time. It's actually only after WW1 it was considered fashionable for men to have short hair, before that it was always long.
Yes, the wigs were because long hair was fashionable for men, but the men who were rich enough to get wigs for their jobs also used them to hide hairloss due to Siphilis which was unpleasantly common.

When I had my hysterectomy the doctor made sure I understood that it's permanent there's not undoing it. I looked at her and was like "Do people think you keep it on ice just in case or something? Of course it's permanent." She laughed. I laughed. Our uteruses laughed. Mine clearly didn't understand the danger it was in.

Testosterone is also a precursor for the body producing estrogen, both men and women need some in different quantities.
High stress environments can cause interruptions in the hormone cycle in women, altering the production of estrogen, this can result in higher testosterone levels.
But it’s not enough for it to have any androgenising effects, at most it’s just going to make the woman feel like crap due to the hormone imbalance.

Back in the 90’s I chatted with this girl going to a Catholic school, and she said her school instituted a gender neutral slacks and shirt policy because policing the skirt length for girls’ uniform had become a nightmare and staff felt uncomfortable breaking out the measuring tape to see much skin was exposed above the knee.

Yep, I went to a coed Catholic high school (in Canada) and while I was there, the entire Catholic school board was in the process of transitioning uniforms towards a gender neutral version where everyone wore pants. Girls at my school were constantly getting in trouble for uniform violations because their kilts were too short/high. Now everyone wears pants.

I went to a Catholic high school in the early 2000s and the year before I started they changed the girls uniform to pants only. We didn’t wear ties (the boys had to wear ties except when it was really hot outside at the end of the year-no AC except in the computer room!) and though at the time I thought it was a bad choice to take away skirts and skorts looking back all pants everything was pretty great

I had a hysterectomy about 12 years ago due to extreme endometriosis. My father says that I am not a woman because I do not have a uterus and ovaries. Pretty sad that there are so many closed minded people. There are so many ways to educate ones self in 2023. I had a hysterectomy at 27, many years ago. I spent time on a website for women having hysts. One woman told me she was really struggling with her hysterectomy and wanted to know how I handled not being a woman anymore.
I felt so bad for her. We wound up having a conversation about what makes a woman a woman. I don't think she understood what I was saying, sadly. For her, woman=childbearing. That leaves out any afab who is infertile. Is it genes? No, because there are all sorts of gene combos that produce a female-appearing body. So what makes a woman a woman?
In my opinion, it's the mind. Sure, your genes are your genes, but that's just genetics. Who am I to tell someone else about their self-identy?
I have never wanted children. I first asked for a hysterectomy at 16. This started years of "you're too young to know what you want" to "you might change your mind" or my personal favorite "your future husband might want kids." Eventually, I stopped asking. Then, I found out I just don't have eggs, so conception wasn't going to happen anyway. Still, no hysterectomy, because "why bother now?" So now, at 47, I had to have a terribly invasive and fairly risky six-hour open hysterectomy to remove a THREE-POUND fibroid. If any of the roughly dozen doctors I'd talked to over the years just did what I asked, it would have been a much easier surgery not fraught with any of my current complicating factors.
TL'; DR - Women don't get to have our health decisions respected, or our experiences valued.

I started my period when I was 9. I was wearing an underwire by 10. I went to a Catholic school, so no one knew what to do with me. My parents insisted that having large breasts made me unattractive and fat and that’s why I didn’t have any friends. I got a reduction when I was 23 only to find out that men like curves.
I got made fun of for having “birthing hips”. According to my doctor, my pelvic bone is wide but the hole in the middle is extremely narrow and tilted at an odd angle. That’s why I’ve never been able to wear tampons. My periods are too heavy, but I can only fit the smallest size tampons up there. Even then, tampon still feels like it’s going to fall out and I’m not putting it in wrong. It’s also why sex isn’t an enjoyable experience for me. It either hurts or I don’t feel anything at all. My doctor said if I ever got pregnant, she’d automatically sign me up for a C-section.
So now I’ve got scars all over my boobs. I’d never be able to lactate to breastfeed. I’ve lost that ability. I have no desire to have sex ever again because it doesn’t feel good. It’s not going to feel good. Why put myself through that let alone some poor guy who’s trying his best? I’m 44 and I still get lectured about how it’s not too late and don’t give up just yet!

I am a trans man, but even before I realized my identity I was treated like this
I have always had ridiculously bad periods (cramps so bad I throw up, bleeding so bad I could go through a Super Plus tampon in 2 hours-even making me anemic at one point, severe insomnia and sleep problems, hot flashes, and more as PMS symptoms) and when we went to the GYNO I was put on BC meds when I was young to help control it, but it never worked. I've tried 3 different pills, the Nuvaring vaginal hormones, the Nexplanon implant in my arm, the patches, the Mirena IUD, even at some points stacking multiple methods on top of each other because one wasn't enough
Even on two BCs, my periods never stopped completely, but more pressing was that about a week before my period, I would get this absolutely awful experience I just called an "Episode" where I was nauseous and vomiting , unable to eat or even drink water, too nauseous to sleep, severe hot flashes and cold chills, dizziness, shakiness, impending sense that I was going to die, and more for 2-4 days
I would just spend days (and nights because I couldn't sleep) every month curled up on the bathroom floor crying because of how awful I felt. It was so awful and my family watching me suffer got so bad that we agreed that if I ever got to the point where I had more "episode" days than normal days, my life wouldn't be worth living and I would end my existence. I have multiple other chronic conditions that leave me in constant pain and nausea and dizziness, but it was nothing compared to my episodes
Because it was monthly, I went to 3 different OB/GYNs, because it was probably hormonal I went to an endocrinologist, and was then referred to an Endocratic Gynecology clinic at my local medical university. I also saw 3 different gastroenterologists(GI), with nobody having an answer. Because of the timing and the correlation, the best guess was some ovary malfunction.
I begged and pleaded to get a hysterectomy+oophorectomy to end my Episodes but because I was 17, the OBs wouldn't even consider it, despite me suffering immeasurably and my other conditions making me not likely to be able to hold a pregnancy anyway. I also DID NOT want children (I'm autistic and could not handle the sensory overload) plus my other conditions are genetic and I'd NEVER want to see a child grow up in as much pain as I did. My partner at the time (now my husband 💙) also has many detrimental genetic traits in his family (scoliosis, severe asthma, type1 diabetes, severe allergy to mosquito bites, and more) so even with him standing beside me saying that HE didn't want children either (so they couldn't use the "what if your partner wants kids?? Stupid argument) they wouldn't even consider it. I suggested once that if my problem was the female hormones, what if I tried testosterone?? (Trans egg moment for sure) and she literally laughed in my face and told me what with my other conditions it would absolutely ruin my heart health (the links to T and heart problems is dubious at best)
I just went on suffering for 4 years
Deciding to try to get my health under control so I could maybe get an actual job, I go to a new (4th!!) GI and within 30 minutes he sent me home with a whole packet on Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome, and there, on the second page it said that people with estrogen intolerances can often have their ovulation triggering their CVS
The whole time I was intolerant to the hormones my body produced, and I had to go to so many doctors and fight for my right to be honestly considered instead of being brushed off
I got on a Progesterone-only BC med that would help suppress the effects of Estrogen, and my "episodes" improved drastically, both in severity and duration, and I can actually do basic tasks while dealing with them

I was terrified to talk to a doctor about getting on T because of what that OB said, I nearly cried the multiple times the week before because I was so scared I wouldn't get to transition medically the way I wanted
Show up, have a long discussion with the provider, find out that that previous OB didn't know what she was talking about at all.
This provider had the actual medical data, and it showed IMPROVEMENT OF SYMPTOMS in AFAB people with my condition being on testosterone. I literally cried when I was able to get a prescription for T, and it has already changed me so much more than I expected it to in little time. I guess because my body didn't really tolerate Estrogen, finally getting a hormone it can fully process worked wonders. I wonder now if a lot of my dysphoria and other problems were strengthened by not processing estrogen, but after only 2 months on T I already have more and darker hair (including on my face which I was told wouldn't happen for 6+months) and other changes that only make me happier and more secure in my identity.
I am now pursuing a Hysto/Oopho through the "gender affirming" routes, but it's an absolute TRAGEDY that I, as an adult, cannot choose to get a (not really) elective surgery to drastically improve my medical health, because of some theoretical "future husband" that may or may not want children, and I am expected to not do what's best for me to bend to the whims of some theoretical interests of a theoretical man that "deserves" more control over my body than I have
With being sick while having estrogen, it really feels like I was "meant" to be trans, all the compassion to women's experience to not make me misogynistic, as well as dating men as a "woman" and seeing their predatory/dismissive behaviors made me a better man, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I finally got the treatment I needed, but it's absolutely ridiculous that I had to weasel my way into other medical practices instead of being able to get the surgery I would need to live a happier life. If my husband had something wrong with his testicles that made him sick, he would NEVER be questioned other than the "this could make you infertile and you need to sign this so you cant sue me for it" waiver, they'd likely never even ask a man for their current partner's option, and so inventing some theoretical "future partner" would be absolutely unheard of. Why can't all humans be treated with equal value and full bodily autonomy???

I’m on a Depo Shot right now because my doctor doesn’t want me having periods either. I started puberty when I was about 8 or 9 years old.
My periods were like monsoon season. Instead of 3-5 days of period, I’d have about a week off my period every month. I didn’t get cramps really, but my IBS would get worse. Every day I’d go to school wearing my uniform skirt, a pair of boxers, 8 pairs of underwear, and 2-3 overnight pads. I’d have to change those pads every 2 hours. If I didn’t, I’d likely stand up to find a puddle on my chair. The school nurse started stocking up on pads just for me, but all she could get were liners or small ones for the average girl just starting. She had to use her own money to get overnights or maternity pads for me. She also couldn’t help me when I leaked. All she could do was rinse my shirt, let it dry a little in front of a fan, and send me back to class. Ah, Catholic school!
I was anemic and on iron supplements by 13. I’d get up every morning, pass out, get ready for school, and eat something before catching the bus.
I love my Depo shot. I tried other birth control treatments and I still had a period, but at least they were manageable and only lasted a week! I was shocked when I saw my doctor while on my period. It was a particularly light period for me and I was raving about how liberating it was! She gave me an exam and told me I was still bleeding entirely too much. She switched me to the shot right away and said she didn’t want me having a period at all. I was shocked!

The c-section thing hit me. It kicked me in the gut. I was a c-section baby because if I wasn't, I would've died. The umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck and I was facing the wrong way. There were NO other options. I would have died and my birth mom could have too. Having a life saving surgery that wasn't even her choice doesn't make her any less of a woman.

My family has always teased me about my “birthing hips”. My pelvic bone is very wide. Turns out, according to my doctor, the opening in my pelvic bone is also very narrow and tilted at an odd angle. I can’t wear tampons because my periods are too heavy, but I can only fit a small teenager’s size tampon in there. And even that hurts and feels like it’s going to fall out. I’m not putting it in wrong. It’s just how I’m built. Sex is either painful or I physically don’t feel anything, so that is not an enjoyable experience for me. People tell me all the time that I just haven’t found the right guy and it’ll magically be more enjoyable when I find the one. Nope! I’m just not built that way.

Yeah. At the school my 3 kids went to, Sex Ed was taught by an actual nurse, to all of the middle school students. Same curriculum, regardless of gender. There was the option to have them excused. I had concerns about the parents who wanted their kids excused from it. I did not excuse any of mine. And if anyone is wondering, my kids (now grown up) are all different genders.

My school literally sent HIGH SCHOOL FRESHMEN home with a consent form for parents to sign if they wanted their kid to be exempt from sex ed classes. And it had stipulations too. So you could sign off on your literal teenager going to sex ed, but there was a box you could check if you wanted them to be exempt from anything 'too sexual', like diagrams of genitalia, talk about STDs, or pictures/videos of childbirth. And then people wondered why there were always like 7 pregnant students every year...
Acting like period pains are all normal and the same are how people who have conditions like endometriosis and PCOS go undiagnosed for years. We actually shouldn't act like, "Oh yeah, these intense pains I'm experiencing are a totally normal part of menstruation, because everyone tells me so," and instead should be having girls get checked for these conditions at a young age.

Yep. That's why it took me four doctors to find someone who took "I pass out from my cramps" seriously. They would just chuck birth control at me and suggest I try ibuprofen, you know the thing I'd already told them did squat. And I'm trans as well. But doc#4 did give me a hysterectomy and the pain was a joke compared to my periods. I was basically just sore and tired, and even took fewer narcotics after surgery than I did for several periods.

@@KaleighCee Not necessarily true. I had pretty bad cramps and went through several types of painkillers over time as they would stop working. The only thing I found that didn't stop working was Advil. The bad cramps were a result of endometriosis, which involves inflammation; I think the Advil worked because it is an anti-inflammatory.
About 2 years ago, I was wearing a skirt and a guy I knew (we were not friends and still are not) tried to look up it to seek if I was trans. I'm not and it wouldn't matter even if I was. Because I have ADD and zone out a lot and am Asexual people thought they could take advantage of me alone and so people I cared for tried protecting me as best as they could but sometimes there were times I was still alone and those were the times I got SA'ed a lot in highschool. The whole belief women need to give birth vaginally and without meds to be a "real mom" is insane. I have heard moms telling other moms well you're not a real mom yet as you had meds and or you had a c-section. One woman even went as far as to say "Oh so you're an adoptive mom not a real mom." to a mom who had to have an emergency c-section to save her and her baby. When she tried to say no she's a real mom the other mom absolutely lost it. They claim having either of those doesn't allow for the natural processes to occur that make it so you can not properly bond with the baby therefore you are not a real mom. How anyone can believe that is insane and rude to all those moms who did what they needed to do to have a safe birth and to adoptive moms.
And saying that you can’t properly bond with the kid is also incredibly disrespectful to adoptive or step-parents. Nasty human being.

I 100% agree with you that you don't have to be the kids bio parent to truly love them. My sister has adopted several of our younger siblings and they are her kids now. They get the same amount of love and care as her bio kids do. Heck my friends kids look up to me as their parent and they don't care what anyone thinks about it either. I'm their family and have been there for them regardless of what they're dealing with that's how family should be.

I'm from a country where uniforms separated by gender are common, and I always thought they were silly because of a great detail, the weather, here the cold starts in September and ends in April, I include the rainy season, the cold is so bad it was normal to see elementary school girls shivering, so at the request Angry Mothers we got months in which we can wear pants, and even then it is not enough just the month of December and January, some schools don't let you enter the building if you are wearing pants after those two months.

It wasn't until I entered university that I could be warm in winter, because from kindergarten to high school you wore a uniform.

In art, it's called the iliac furrows, it's where muscles run from your iliac crest to your pubis. Greek statuary featured it heavily. It is usually associated with men, particularly body builders. I've never heard it called a vagina bones before!

I had a partial hysterectomy (kept my ovaries) when I was 32. I was in a car accident a few years later and while in the emergency room, one of the questions I was asked was "are you pregnant?" I said no and the nurse was like "are you sure?" in a rather condescending way and I went "I HAVE NO UTERUS, YES I'M SURE!" She moved to the next question.
Years ago I was admitted to the hospital with uncontrolled vomiting due to a reaction to an antibiotic prescribed for a very painful UTI. At least that was the hypothesis. Pretty sure after the fact that it was a kidney stone. Anyway, after being asked if I was pregnant for the third time in 3 or 4 hours with the are you sure followup I finally lost my patience with people who can't be bothered to read the chart notes and replied, "Why, is there a star and 3 wise men outside? Stopped the nurse cold. "What?" "Well, I wasn't pregnant 3 hours ago when I was admitted and answered that question and I haven't had sex since then so either I'm still not pregnant or there's been a miracle."

I am a medical professional to be and usually it's hard to have a clear pregnancy diagnosis in the first months, so for me is kinda ok to double check if that's the case. Unless it's clearly impossible like in an hysterectomy as above.
So sometimes even if a patient say no it could be an unknown pregnancy.
@@ScrokyTheFallen If it's unknown then it's unknown. The patient isn't going to have a sudden flash of insight when asked the second (3rd, 4th) time. In my case I'm Ace and was still a virgin even though I was in my twenties so barring supernatural intervention I was absolutely certain and to be honest it came across that either the nurses were too lazy to read the chart notes from when I had been asked that a couple of times before OR they thought I was lying and would crack and tell the truth if they asked often enough. I was leaning towards lazy but who knows. Maybe to an allosexual the idea that someone might just not be having sex is a hard concept to understand.
If the patient says that they haven't had sex within the last say 3 or 4 months and there's no reason to believe they are lying then note that down and move on. If you really, really need to be sure give them a pregnancy test before whatever the procedure is that's a danger to a fetus.
Doctors and nurses in front of you don't know you. They usually don't think you are stupid but they also know that miscommunication is the stupidest error they could medically do.
The second check is basically too ask " do you think you're not pregnant because you don't want to, you have a birth control (which is not 100% sure) or you don't have any signs in that sens? OR are you sure because you checked lately, you physically can't etc...?
Many people will answer no to this question because they think they're not. Not because they are big immature babies, just because sometimes it's hard to know or to accept to be pregnant.
I would double check too...

I'm AFAB nonbinary and the only memories I have of skirts in school uniforms is being extremely uncomfortable in them even before I started realizing I had gender dysphoria. Like, there was an element of literal uncomfyness as well as just feeling upset. I didn't have "proper birthing hips" lol I was twelve. Not everybody has the perfect cliche gendered body even after puberty either! I've always been unable to fit into "women's" shirts because I just happened to be born with wider shoulders than most men.
So it's just absurd to me to think of forcing kids to wear skirts out of a bizarre patronising "it's better for you sweetie~" excuse...
Felt way more comfy literally and mentally once I transferred to a school that let you choose trousers!

My periods were so heavy and had lots of clots, that I couldn't use a tampon. The clots would coat the outside of the tampon and I bleed through. The inside of it would be dry. I checked because it would leak in about a half hour. I wanted too, needed to found out if I was really bleeding that heavy. I had to go to pads.

It's not internal bleeding. It's uterine contractions pushing out the uterine lining. It's the same mechanism as childbirth contractions, but it's not in preparation for it. It's just the body doing the same thing.
Not really? The lining of the uterus thickens as it prepares for a fertilised egg to implant. When that doesn't happen, the lining just sloughs off. That's not the painful part. The uterus has to contract to push that lining out. Prostaglandins (which is kind of like a hormone, but isn't exactly) triggers the muscles of the uterus to contract. This substance is also associated with pain and inflammation, and people with higher levels of prostaglandins tend to have more severe menstrual cramps.
Edit: And that's even before you get into the painful issues caused by stuff like endo, uterine fibroids, PVD, adenomyosis (when the uterine lining grows INTO the wall of the uterus), and cervical stenosis (when the opening of the cervix is smaller than usual and makes it harder for menstrual fluid to pass, resulting in a painful pressure increase in the uterus)
I don’t think it’s internal bleeding, or at least my education basically said that the lining of the uterus comes off. Shit’s nasty either way, gonna ditch having a period as soon as I legally can.

“A woman’s hair is her glory” is a biblical thing. As a thin haired girl who couldn’t really grow it long and couldn’t do anything trendy with it (beach waves lasted about 10 mins in my hair no matter how much product there was), it was something I disliked hearing in church. I was apparently a bad Christian simply for not having better hair genes.
I’m a middle easterner in the US so I always had the thickest, longest, shiniest hair on my head…and hair on my brows, apparently, because I got rude comments from other girls as a literal child about having a unibrow because I had like three tiny stray hairs in the middle of my brows 😐 they like long hair…as long as it’s in the right place and just that right place 🤦♀️

I'm a trans guy. I got my hair cut short because I was convinced that having/wanting long hair invalidated my gender identity. I know better now. I'm growing it out again so I can put hairsticks in it because I'm allowed to do whatever the hell I want with my hair. I am glad I cut it, though. It turns out that some of my father's genes include the tips of my hair getting all curled up when it grows back. It looks so soft and fluffy.

@RosyKitteh Jealous! Even before I realized I was trans my hair never got as long as I wanted it. I would always get as little trimmed off as possible and still barely got it past my shoulder blades. I had been growing it since I was little, originally to donate to my mom's friend who had cancer. She died before that could happen, unfortunately. I always said I wanted Rapunzel-length hair. I also think short hair on women looks completely fine.

I'm female and, like many people in Spain, gave myself a "Pandemia head shave" during the lockdowns. My hair went through the "I just started my military service" phase and through the "high and tight phase" and through the "I'm a 3-year old boy" phase... I LOVED IT ALL.
@NavaSDMB I once butchered my hair when I was really little. I mean, I just went at it with a pair of scissors. My mom had to fix it, and it ended up being barely past my ears. That was actually my trans awakening. I saw myself with short hair, realized I was boy (because my understanding of gender was really shallow back then), and then immediately went into the boy's bathroom at school. I believe I even managed to use a urinal successfully. Unfortunately, another boy saw me and told a teacher. She asked me what the hell I was doing, and when I said, "I'm a boy." she looked me dead in the eye, laughed, and said, "No." Cue about 7 or so years of unidentified general discomfort.
The German one is pretty accurately translated. Some German cities are trying to make hygiene products more accessible by having designated places people with periods can go and get them for free. But a lot of people (especially men) are not happy with that. And even worse the man who said that is a politician

So… my mom was always the top earner in the family, pretty tough and pragmatic and the boss at home. My dad is a bit on the softer side, he’s rather artistic and sensitive. They have a great relationship, have been happily married for almost 40 years and successfully raised two sons, one of them is even cishet.

Yea, what I have observed is that society doesn't see the bigger picture of femininity and masculinity and chose shoves things into those categories when they could also at times be put into the other. By today's standards the hardworking housewife would be considered masculine. There are women that are tomboys but they are still feminine, just with their own personality. I would also like to add that masculinity should be determined by a man's fatherlyness and how he makes sure his family is provided for, even if that means being a stay at home dad because some women have good jobs and make a decent amount of money that the father should just take care of home and kids. I met my transmasc friend years BEFORE he realized his gender identity, and I introduced him to other friends I had AFTER he was already fully presenting male and making his legal identity to reflect who he is. my friends didn’t even know he was trans until after a year of knowing him, and that really made me so happy. he’s never been treated differently than the cis straight guys (which is what almost the entire circle of friends is made up of) and after knowing him for so long it makes me super glad to see him truly being himself.
he’s been on T for a year now (we all celebrated last month!) and is getting top surgery in a few weeks, it’s awesome. shoutout to logan ❤

As someone with IBS yes you can feel the process of digestion and it can cause pain and discomfort. That's one reason people believe those of us with IBS have such a bad time... Our brain doesn't block it out or we're more sensitive to it.

IBS pain is actually from the colon, where the muscle is contracting. The stomach is lined with a thick layer of mucus which stops the walls from getting digested, so you're only ever in pain if that layer goes away, which it can rarely.

I most often experience colon related pain and digestive difficulties, but if I happen to eat something and that my body will reject it, I can assure you that the pain will be coming from the stomach way earlier it'll be coming from the guts. 😭

As well as being creepy and inappropriate, I feel like the bit about school uniforms is actually them saying the quiet part out loud: that humans aren't THAT sexually dimorphic, and we often need other cues to inform us of whether someone is male or female. It's not that "females" NEED to wear blouses and skirts, it's that misogynists need "females" to be disallowed from wearing anything else, so they can gender people as Women or Men more easily.
(also that bit about women "worshipping Satan" just made me think like...note to men, please don't confuse your niche sexual interests with facts that you can use to generalise people with, good LORD)
Its not even like blouses make a difference. They're literally cut to the same pattern but with the button placket on the other side. Even on hot days I wouldn't take my jumper off because the blouses supposedly designed to fit boobs didn't fit mine and I was only a 32C at the time. There was gaping between the buttons. Granted my bust is very high set on my chest so some of the issue could've been that all the space they did have was situated far lower down, but there certainly wasn't this amazing amount of space for boobs comoared to the boys shirts.
People who insist on men and women being so physically different need to stop thinking everyone is either a buff chad or an antique vase, the average human is quite similarly shaped across the board.
I'm afraid medically/biologically speaking that is very untrue. In fact, it's a huge problem in medicine and even things like car crash test dummies that there's only ever 1 "average human" model that doesn't take into account key differences in XX-chromosome biology.

This is so sensible! Also why there is no particular reason to have “Mens’ clothing” and “Womens’ clothing” in terms of physicality. My mom had to have a total hysterectomy after having me.
Not trying to trauma dump,just explain why they decided this was the best option for my mom;
She had a tumor that I hid when she was pregnant with me. It ruptured during my birth and almost killed her right after (she was taken into surgery and had to have 2 blood transfusions) and several more times over the next 2 years (in and out for 13 operations in my first 2 years of life) so with all that taken into consideration, it made sense.
It's definitely not a good feeling knowing your life almost cost your mom's, I'll tell you that much.
No, it doesn't feel good, let me tell you. But what does feel good is when your mother makes it feel like it was a war bringing you into this world and that you're essentially a prize to have been won and you were worth it despite the fact you feel worthless (like I do, born with birth defects and being disabled mentally and physically my whole life). My mom was in labor 18 hours with me due to her doctor trying to force her to birth me via broken hips cause of his religious beliefs. Another doctor overwrote him when we both died on the table and then did a c-section. We both came out with issues and she's still suffering like I am to this day; her with a bunch of hernias and hypertension and me with all sorts of disabilities. She had my 2 sisters and talks about how it was worth it even though we feel so horrible.

My mom had 4 c-sections. The first 2 were because of medical emergencies that would have killed my siblings while she was in labor. The second 2 were because her uterus was too scarred from the first 2 c-sections. When people say you have to give birth through labor to be a real woman, I get so mad in particular because my mom is badass.
I agree with you so hard with the uniform one. I also saw something on Reddit on how sometimes the people see as "uniquely trans" problems when actually they can just be "human problems". My work have a uniform. We have a portal where you order uniform online (like free shopping 🎉) when you need something. I am a cis woman and the old system had me as a female and I could only order "female" uniform. The "female" uniform is more tight with a defined hip and waist. I probably could have called someone and said "please can I have "male" t-shirts or fleeces as I really hate my clothes touching me but I was a bit scared to. We now have a new system and I can order whichever uniform that I like and I can't describe how much more comfortable I feel.. I think there is still a way to go as it is still labelled "male" and "female" but I completely agree with you. Let's just have a uniform. If you want to pick the more fitted tops, go for it, if you want to pick the more "unfitted" version then go for it (might need a better name than unfitted....)

I relate to this so much, my school had totally nuteral uniforms and I loved it! But I was in a club that had gendered uniforms and I hated it the woman's pants literly didn't fit me at all
It would also be nice if there was an option for some definition and shape, but not clinging to my body. It feels like the options are one extreme or the other.
Also with t-shirts, if you want a fitted one it has to come with stupid half sleeves. Can I not have a fitted t-shirt with proper sleeves please?
The uniform shirts my company uses are, interestingly enough, basically the same measurements for men’s and women’s, but the men’s are a lot longer. I have a long torso, so I have to wear camisoles under the women’s ones. Then I got some men’s ones and that helped a lot.

There's a literal study where you swallow Barium so they can see how your digestion works due to conditions like hEDS. I work fine mostly but food goes down very slow in my esophagus (GERD) and causes issues due to my hEDS and I have done the Barium Swallow test and it was weird yet fun. So yes, digestion can be painful. IBS-M is what I have. People are idiots.

I can kind of see the "your body is God's, then your husband's, and then yours" coming from a thing I was taught in Christians as a child: the way to have true happiness is to have/think of JOY - Think of Jesus, then others, and finally yourself. Also: when I finally got approval for my sterilization, my fucking THERAPIST asked me if my boyfriend was okay with it. I've done a deep dive into fundamental Christianity and it's worse than that.
It means a woman has to let her husband use her like an object. Don't feel like sex? Not unless your husband approves. Can't handle another child/pregnancy? Sucks for you, if hubby demands it, you do it. I've had bowel spasms/cramping in the actual intestines and that's actually pretty damned painful (this happens to me because my neurological system is messed up, but it's not the ordinary movement of the intestines). As someone whose period pains were always mild, that was far worse for me. There's a range of pain from periods, and people with severe pain shouldn't be treated as if their pain is mild just because it is for some people. Though fun fact: a fair amount of period cramping isn't from the uterus but instead from the abdominal muscles, so some people experience severe cramps even post hysterectomy or having been born without a uterus but having certain hormonal ranges.
I once at school wrote “if you’re a girl, your torso must be a triangle” because of a “this is a guy, this is a girl” thing the teacher had up.

My school finally decided to give girls pants for winter (because y’know, IT’S FREEZING) and instead of just letting them wear the same pants as the boys, they designed an ENTIRE NEW PAIR OF PANTS because they didn’t want us to “be mistaken for the boys”.
1. I’m nonbinary (AFAB), I would’ve been so fuckin happy to wear boys’ pants.
2. It costs even more than the boys’ pants.
3. It’s designed for people with a hourglass figure.
It’s a pair of pants that girls are only allowed to wear half the year. And it’s still so fuckin’ bad.
Just another reason school uniforms should go away and never come back.

They're actually made for an hourglass figure? That's incredible. I still haven't found any trousers that properly fit an hourglass figure. Even when my waist was only 10" smaller than my hips it was a nightmare finding ones big enough in the hips and thighs and small enough at the waist. But when I gained weight & it all went to my bust & hips/thighs even more its now become impossible. Nowhere offers trousers for a 30" waist and 44" hips without them being fully custom made. When I was at school I had the 10" difference and trousers for women were usually made for a 7" or 8" difference at most. Little has changed now. I'd be super surprised if they were actually making kids uniforms with the hips 10" larger than the waist since they don't even do it for adults. People who are rule figures tend to assume that they will suit hourglass figures, but those of us who actually have the figures know its very much not true.
I'd hate to wear men's trousers as they have even less curve to them. I've tried my partner's on & they didn't fit at all. I've given up trying to find trousers. I just stick to leggings & dresses now. I'm also nonbinary afab but have no desire to wear anything that doesn't fit or isn't comfortable. Nonbinary doesn't mean "if you were afab try to look more androgynous or manlike" to me. But tgen I'm a variety of nonbinary who doesn't place how I dress as having any bearing over my gender identity. Its just clothes to keep the meatsack warm.

@@sarina76667 oh man thankfully I've never thrown up from ibs pain though the nausea is debilitating ( though I do vomit all the time for migraines, no idea what's going on there ) but I've definitely had a lot of sleepless nights trying everything to relieve my pain -- yoga stretched, hot water bottles, lavender baths, foetal position, crying while hugging my cat etc.
One thing I find funny is the fact that some people insist that women should wear skirts because that’s just for women. But anatomically speaking men should wear skirts and women trousers.

I always loved it because when i cutted my hair to look more boyish i was able to pass more easly with the school uniform (and i was very muscular so i just needed the haircut). Even when i graduted the guy taking the photos called me son and i appear in that photo with a big smile because of it XD.

5 years ago I buzzcut my hair and I did get a few strange reactions from people. Because it's perfectly normal for a guy to buzzcut their hair but aparently not for a woman. 5 years later I still buzzcut my hair because I love it and I feel sexy with my super short hair, and everyone who doesn't agree with it can piss off!
Regarding the hair thing, ironically in the 1700s the men wore wigs because long hair was linked to vitality & good health. The court wigs we have here in the U.K. are left over from that time. It's actually only after WW1 it was considered fashionable for men to have short hair, before that it was always long.
I believe it comes and goes in waves though. Roman art has men with short hair. Just fashion🤷♀️
Yes, the wigs were because long hair was fashionable for men, but the men who were rich enough to get wigs for their jobs also used them to hide hairloss due to Siphilis which was unpleasantly common.

They were just made from horse hair rather than human hair. For people who really couldn't afford much they had a bag full of wigs & you paid a low price to just pick out a random one & hope it fit.
