I don't know where the whole two-week notice thing came from but if it's an at-will employment contract then they are not legally obligated to give you notice or even a reason for termination and the same goes for you the employee. No notice nor reason on either side.

Men are complaining in the comments but I don’t think this is a coincidence. Yes, all people are being laid off more and jobs are harder to find. But our society is starting to push the traditional role on women more openly. Less jobs for women, the more they have to rely on men for financial security. Thus upping marriage and birth rates.

Giving your everything is guarantee of nothing. Companies have ZERO loyalty anymore. Many bigger companies have bloated middle managers who will go out of their way to fire competent employees if they are threat to their office politics and this goes completely unseen by the top management.
