it's okay though, they'll release a patch to take you out of the hospital in a month or so, unless modders do it first

@@Josuh "Null Space," which is a narrative element in sonic forces, is introduced as a space completely devoid of matter or time, it's just a vast nothingness. Sonic and the avatar character get sent there was a death sentence by eggman and that lasts less than 20 seconds before they escape.

Hey, I thought Team Sonic Racing was a really great soundtrack. Just confused why a bunch of awesome remixes cost $60... oh right, there was a racing game included as a bonus too, wasn't there?
The chemistry between Rob, Bear Gyrlls, Mr. Incredibazinga, and all the other RadicalSoda characters are what I live for. Loved every second these characters were on screen.

Same here. Seeing all the ships makes me wish for a neon version of Heroes' Egg Fleet IN SPACE, but instead we got long, boring automated paths with equally boring blocky platforming sections. It's the most disappointing area in the game for me, so much wasted potential.
Aesthetically it’s great, but level design wise it’s the worst world in the game

Btw: the vaseline comment from the first part is valid.
You might've not noticed, but in the remaster, the boost blur effect isn't actually centered on sonic's position relative to the screen. It just spans from the direct center of the screen regardless.
Additionally, it's an actual full blur instead of the translucent and DIRECTIONAL frame stacking of the original. In the original, the oval (or whatever shape) that isn't blur extends in the direction that sonic is running ensuring you can see obstacles ahead of you. Guess what? That's a nope here.
Interesting observation! I wonder if that was a specific graphical technique that they couldn't (or didn't care to) replicate in modern software. IIRC the remake is in Unity or something but I forget...

Yeahhhhh, when you're porting a game to an entirely different engine like Godot with new features and barely any time to get it polished, even a simple port can be completely destroyed. I'm surprised the game was even beatable with the whole mess of crunch Blind Squirrel went through.

It's a shame Godot wasn't under the GPL so people would have access to the source code and could fix it themselves

Honestly, I think most of the remixes are solid on their own.
The main problem is that more often than not, they stylistically clash with the environments of the levels they're in.

When you said the game plays itself I didn't expect you to mean the level LITERALLY completes itself start to finish with zero input.
That is *absolutely,* I've heard about complaints of this series being automated, but not even Forces was that bad AFAIK.
Nah, it wasn't the whole level and Forces has a similar situation with Arsenal Pyramid's Double Boost to Sky Diving Combo.
The level lasts for at least 3 minutes after that part. Most Forces stages are only half that length.

I’m actually really glad to see this wasn’t just a 1 Part review. I didn’t hate this game personally, but they did do Colors dirty with this “remaster” because it deserved so much more than a wonky port, especially since some people had unenjoyable and buggy experience (which I luckily didn’t).
I’ve actually wanted to hear Rad’s opinion on some of the other changes, and ESPECIALLY the problems with a certain Planet coming up. Bear Grills is gonna be in for a surprise.

This is a small nitpick but it's something I never hear anyone mention about this remaster, the spring sound plays over like literally EVERYTHING dash panels, hoops, rainbow rings, the first trick on a trick ramp.
That does get annoying. But for some reason the bouncing poles still go: *boioioing!* when you bounce off of them, like every other boost game, except Forces which used the spring sound effect for some reason.
absolutely LOVING this review series so far, the jokes and writing in this episode in particular were ON POINT dude, had me laughing the entire way through!!!

For some reason it's accepted within the gaming community to lie in favour of Sonic Colors.
There's people to this day calling it a 3D Sonic game...
Sonic Colors is meh, but not especially bad... but for me it's the marker of a really huge downturn in the quality of Sonic writing. The game itself is whatever and the story is just as forgettable. I won't say that it's terrible, but it's not good.
I like how you give compliments where compliments are do. Although you completely shred games you always give one or two things that you like and although brief it adds so much to understanding your reasoning!
With your thoughts about the music from 17:20 onward I'm in complete agreement. I prefer the original tracks since, like you said, the newer ones are nice but just have an emptiness that makes them not feel as good.

Completely agree with you on the music, Starlight Carnival and the boss themes are really good, and Sweet Mountain definitely grew on me. Not a fan of Tropical Resort though, Act 2 is decent but 1 and 3 are just terrible. Like you said it feels hollow, which is a theme with half of the ost.
The good writers are exiled in IDW jail, although apparently Sega decided to let them out for whatever the next new game is.

yep, seems like the good ol faithful ("regardless of how much a sonic game sucks you can always count on the soundtrack to be absolute fire") is still true
If by fire you mean a trash fire, the majority of remixes are huge downgrades from the originals, there's a few that are good but most are disjointed and off key.
That is the rule of Sonic games, and rules have exceptions (BOOM in general, Erazer, Faded Hills, Spinball Settings though the rest of the game slaps)

I could've gladly sat through the entire clip of the plays-itself level from beginning to end, this was another fab segment of the review, particularly Mr Grylls screaming in surprise
I personally prefer all of the original ost from the remixes even the ones made by Jun because I feel that his remixes kinda have too much rock in them and take away from the robotic feel of those songs.
I really do wish games were polished more these days. I get that some things do happen and the product will be bad for a bit however when it’s a single player game that you most likely won’t play more then once, it’s completely different. You have to make a solid game and have it playable because by the time it takes to get a patch out it will be too late and the people who played either never touch it again or have played it through to where you won’t play it again. This goes for any game really but especially linear games.
Games that have dedicated developers who know what they did and try there absolute hardest to fix them game are an absolute gem! No man’s sky, is a great example for what not to do however they’re a great example of a caring dev team that doesn’t charge much or even nothing but releases updates super regularly and are always adding to the game with little to no complications even though not many play! Respawn did many things right as well, (whether or not you agree with things that happened, that’s up to you) but you can easily see passion from titles like TF1/2 and Jedi Fallen Order or even Apex, you see passion and determination! That’s what I want! it’s such a refreshing thing! It’s not often but god do some do it right and I wish they had bigger teams like the bad companies!
Greed and laziness has doomed the industry for many years. No longer do we get complete products that are actually polished, it seems the bad experiences have truly outnumbered the good these days and it’s all thanks to those dirty greedy corporate pigs up top who don’t wanna see reason. They just want every penny in the world, while paying their actual workers in pennies and maybe continued employment.
This is the absolute best work he's made yet... and that's after realizing that he just makes fantastic content! Great work my mans, great work
