The ophanim was most likely a cargo vessel that had suffered a mechanical issue in space in it's water tanks and the seraphim that accompanied it was a naval destroyer or light cruiser providing armed security for the cargo ship. In order to establish a secure cordon for the water scoops, and prevent any natives from getting accidentally injured or killed by the machinery once they start running, the seraphim ship most likely sent several companies of marines, or mercenaries if they are PMC, down via landing craft and they set up the sound systems and told the natives to not be afraid. The security forces would also very likely be wearing full combat suits, or even piloting mechs, also described by the oldtimers as celestial warriors.
They most likely were interstellar spacecraft stopping by to get water for their fusion engines to proceed on their journeys elsewhere. They had no reason to establish contact with us as we were nowhere near any resemblance of technology. And when they got to a safe distance away from us to activate their main engines for full acceleration or hyperspace drive, the effects would have been visible here too and attributed to biblical phenomenon.

Rather than a literal eyeball, I think it would be more accurate if it was made of energy or something resembling the sun. It would probably still look like an eye, but made of fire and light. as an atheist, too, theology fascinates me. Modern stories don't have the brutality and wonder the bible does. we also have an inherent reliance on familiarity in our writing whereas the writers of the bible are solely inspired by their imaginations and musings about the natural world (or inspired closely adjacent to those who were). When we start exploring nearby star systems and establishing interstellar diplomacy with near peer alien worlds, maybe they might let us rent or buy a few of their older generation "Ezekiel's Wheels" so we can build our own, like how we are letting Japan build F-35s under our license. We are going to have to reboot the old computer networks on board these things, install our software, and restart those engines. They look pretty comfy to travel aboard. The rotating ring sections probably got some sick gyms and workout facilities and dining areas as well.

as an atheist, too, theology fascinates me. Modern stories don't have the brutality and wonder the bible does. we also have an inherent reliance on familiarity in our writing whereas the writers of the bible are solely inspired by their imaginations and musings about the natural world (or inspired closely adjacent to those who were).
I think this is why mythos of any religion can't quite be touched in the modern day. We filter our thoughts by what will sell and what we know.
Not to go all Joe Rogan on you but it honestly just sounds like a psychedelic trip. This 3D image isn't biblically accurate to Ezekiel 6 when this particular one pops up (should be another angel in the center that has 4 faces and six wings), it gives Ezekiel to the Lord who briefs and sends him to Israel to "set them straight" but the Lord knows that Israel is a rebellious sort and won't take him seriously so it's also a record of prophesy for the future generations (at the time)

They were alien ships coming by to refuel on water for their fusion engines and the ancient peoples tried describing them in the best ways they knew how. Spacecraft makes the most sense. The rings were probably the crew quarters and rotated to generate artificial gravity and the center portion is the reactor and propulsion mechanism. And of course, every part of the things would be ringed with lights and thus, "eyes". Somewhere out there in the galaxy, entire worlds are actually living in Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen. One day we would join them, hopefully.

@@Mr.Obongo Or regress back to the Middle Ages, if the climate types get their way. But if we can get past these hurdles, the Moon and Mars will be the research labs for longer space missions. The thing that makes my morning coffee great is coming here for the latest releases from SpaceX and others leading the way for us to becoming a planetary civilization. Once we are able to ditch big cumbersome rockets and develop spaceplanes that can routinely fly to at least ISS altitude to deliver crew and cargo, everything else will start evolving at rapid pace.

Somebody did a rendering of a biblically accurate Seraphim a while back, replacing the eyes with lights and viewing ports, and spiky protrusions as cannon mounts, and the thing came out as a PERFECT rendering of what a fast, light space naval destroyer or interceptor would look like. The two huge eyes towards the rear and "waist" areas would be the main engines of the craft, and the eyes along the body and wings correspond to where the reentry navigation and landing lights would be on any large air and spacecraft. There were also a symmetrical group of eyes facing down from the center portion that could be vertical takeoff and landing thrusters and their warning lights to make sure ground crews stay away when they were in operation. The dual wing edges had a series of multi length "spikes" that correspond to where long range lasers, railguns, and chainguns would be on a combat spaceship of a destroyer class. Early humans have been surveyed and reconned, and whoever they were, didn't think of us as any threat to them. The ship that was modeled after the Seraphim looked in all parts like a light, all-purpose military ship capable of atmospheric and landing operations. In whatever world they came from, they would most likely have been used as escorts for larger vessels and orbital stations, or by a private security company to provide armed protection for commercial vessels against pirates in lawless and contested regions of space between different federations or system-states.
Or maybe it was an actual angel. Or a made up story. Or maybe aliens have built ships based on angels. We don't know.
