    Such a pleasant review. Nice aesthetics and setting, you have calm way of talking and you clearly explain the differences. Easy to follow. Nice job, well done! I ordered myself a G7 SE now. I have Elite Series 2 controller but it lasted only for 2 years and now the bumber buttons are broken. Very disappointed to the quality and don't want to spend 180 euros for new controller. So going to try this one for a change. Have a nice xmas! Are you going to do review of Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra - controller?

      Hey bro thank you so much for leaving such an amazing comment. Yes I’ve got the stealth ultra on preorder, hoping to get it on 15th. Usually my reviews are done after 20-30 hours of game time, but for stealth ultra I might do a first impressions video with some test results. Also G7se has got the update for 1000hz on Xbox, really made a huge difference to the controller, now with 1000hz it’s actually performing better than the G7 which also got the 1000hz. I think I’m going to make a new video covering this topic again. Gamesir has me really busy 😂

      @@Gamewizz9 ooh that game scares me with building and stuff 😂. I did try all the different response curves in COD (linear, dynamic, standard) and found the issue in raw mode existed for all of them on the SE.
      Going back and forth between these 2 feels so different at first, u really need a few minutes to get adjusted. Saying that if you’ll only be playing on one, it’ll become second nature and you won’t even notice.
      I was hoping the Hall effect wouldn’t feel different so someone playing on different controllers at times wouldn’t need to adjust. I can literally pick the gambit after fusion and play ok, even though their response is different. The SE though has me thinking of ditching the precision rings, but I’m finding that difficult 😂

      That’s an amazing suggestion. I did check the poling rate and both came back 4ms so 250hz. Overclocking I need to look into as I only play on consoles, but the info would be helpful for others.
      Circularity though man is a bit strange to me, its just showing the circular error rate, if the sticks have a circular gate. I recently reviewed the Raikiri and that has 0 error rate, but that causes an issue, the maximum input in a corner is so minute, that hitting it can become difficult. For example diving in COD then pushing the stick forward and pressing it, the character won’t run coz u haven’t hit the absolute forward. I did fix it by reducing the outer deadzone in game settings, but it baffled me a bit.

    Love your review, i love the part when you show thumbstick drift in G7 SE. I'm from Indonesia, and reviewer here only talks about marketing things such as "hall effect has no drift" and benchmarking circularity error without stating deadzone. It's basically useless review.
    Mine is Gamesir G7 anyways, out of the box drift is 3,4%; and sometimes I experienced jitter in right trigger. Actually i love this controller, but i don't like it's thumbsticks response curve, feels like accelerated even if I turn on raw mode.

      Hey thanks bro, so I agree about a bit different response feeling. I think the trend for reaching low circularity error numbers and mimicking a raw mode is kinda at fault here. One think I’d suggest is calibrating the sticks every few days, atleast for me it makes a bit of a difference.

    Quick question for you if you don't mind? How comes the circularity test on the G7 (not SE) model is 0.4 on my controller? I've got the sticks configured as 0-100% in normal (not raw) mode. For some reason, I thought the circularity would be a lot worse given they are potentiometer sticks. Or do hall effect sticks only affect dead zones rather than circularity? Once again, appreciate your time.

  • @remi9378
    @remi9378 7 месяцев назад +4

    Thanks bro! I mainly play Rocket League and the SE is so bad, I don't have the same sensations as with a PowerA Enhanced series X or a normal controller, the sticks are so different, even in raw profile, it's frustrating and strange considering the precision, it's very slow and I feel a kind of latency, do you think the G7 is better at this level? Are the sticks better than the bad PowerA or a normal controller?

    • @thephototechy
      @thephototechy  7 месяцев назад +3

      Hey So the Xbox standard controller is a bit different han the PowerA enhanced. I made a video on the response curve test and Xbox controllers make a square with in the max boundaries, where as PowerA enhanced will make a circle. I've read somewhere that Rocket League can actually use the extra diagonal inputs. So I'd suggest if you prefer the PowerA more than the standard then the normal G7 in raw mode might feel better to you.
      One thing I'd suggest if you have updated to 6.25 on the SE is to enable raw mode and reduce the max from 100 to 85 or 90 and see if the responsiveness gets better. the reason is the values are affected in the whole range once you reduce the maximum deadzones, hope this helps bro.

      @@thephototechy Hi and thanks for your responsiveness! so yes I have the latest update and I had already seen via one of your other videos that the raw mode was better and indeed it is but it still lacks responsiveness (I tried 80 75 and 50), I feel sluggish and sometimes too precise or not enough in certain movements, the PowerA controller is perfect for RL, the only problem is the drift joystick and the lack of "precision" every 2 months, so I bought the G7 to see if it replaces it properly, because I absolutely need a controller with buttons on the back for a more ergonomic key combination, but there are so many with buttons placed strangely for me (the PowerA (+1500h) is really nickel with the button that falls on the middle finger).

    Hi mate me again lol I'm looking into getting another controller as I keep going back to the se and always find myself aiming worse. Is the normal G7 like normal controllers ? • @thephototechy
      @thephototechy  8 месяцев назад +2

      Man the gambit is actually one of a kind. The G7 would be very much like the standard controller with 2 different aiming options, one circular profile and the other is their raw profile. I much prefer the raw profile as it feels snappier. I’m not gonna lie, the only other controller that sorta feels like the gambit but still a bit different, is the ROG Raikiri, but it’s such a confusing product.
      I was testing the PDP rematch as Inhad it opened and took the potentiometer out so had to recalibrate it, and that feels very close to Gambit. I know victrix and PDP are the same, I think the response curve they are using is doing something to ignore the implemented deadzones, just my feeling.
      I’m actually thinking of making a video showing the precision tester result of different controllers I have and how they feel whilst gaming.
      Something I just discovered is how different controllers are dealing with diagonals. The only was I can test this is precision tester and it clearly shows the difference, where some controllers add values to the diagonals and others are smooth. Gambit is of the smooth variety, but has this jitter at every position, which might be the reason of so precise dampened feeling, as if the aim stops exactly where we want to, something I find other controllers a little bit different.
      I’d definitely say that the G7 currently is better feeling to me than the SE. I’ve tried putting a lot of time on the SE and like you I feel the controller kinda not working for my play style. When I switch to any other controller, even the standard series controller, it just feels so familiar.

I’m hoping firmware updates will keep coming and these become the norm for all of us.

    • @thephototechy

      So in raw mode the sticks feel familiar I’d say. The snapping is there, that’s not to say Hall effect in 100 maximum are bad, just a bit different. I’ve noticed another thing, it feels the radius for sticks to move is a tiny bit larger on G7se, that’s probably why reducing the in game maximum deadzone helped me a lot.
      Like I said the Hall effects are the future. Hopefully they’ll keep getting better and better. Going back and forth I prefer the G7 coz it’s familiar, I’m putting alot of time with the SE now and really enjoying it. I have really been looking into the Gamesir G7 and the Gamesir G7 SE. I find it veeeeery disappointing that they would remove the mechanical button switches and go back to membrane for the SE. Your conclusion about "sending a message" so-to-speak at the end there is exactly what I want to do. I WANT hall effect sticks. I WANT mechanical button switches. See my problem? I even tend to prefer the lovely feeling rubber back grips but that isn't the selling feature on either for me. I want a controller with **BOTH** mechanical switches AND hall effect sticks.

      I hear you bro, specially when the normal G7 has amazing mechanical buttons, I think they are even better than Razer wolverine chroma’s. I can’t say their reason of omitting the mechanical ABXY, also not using the metal dome buttons in the Dpad, which gives a sharper response like in the standard Xbox series controller. I do hope we get the option at some point, specially when people chose to buy the SE more than the normal G7.

    • @thephototechy
      @thephototechy  7 месяцев назад +2

      Hey so instead of the normal potentiometer based sticks that wear over time, Hall effect uses magnets that are contact free, and not susceptible to the same level of wear and tear as the normal carbon based potentiometer. The normal sticks have a minimum life cycle rating of 2 million actuations, Hall effect sticks are rated for 5 million minimum actuations, so in theory more than double the life of a normal thumbstick module.

      To enter manual calibration you need to press and hold Xbox, menu & view buttons in then plug the controller in, the led will start flashing, rotate each stick 3 times and press the triggers in 3 times then press A on the controller, the led will go off, disconnect and reconnect the calibration is done, hope this helps.

    10:20 so its still stick drift issue even with hall effect

    • @thephototechy
      @thephototechy  7 месяцев назад +2

      Hey so the spring in the stick lose some tension after use and I’d say it’ll have about 4-5% register, that’s after about 50 hours of use. This behave normal for all the thumbstick modules and not game breaking at all. The controllers that have perfect centre and no drift, have built in deadzones implemented, from anywhere 1-5%. It’s something gamesir have given us the option to use or not. I decided to disable the deadzones and use in game deadzones if the drift was too much.
      Hall effect sticks will definitely last longer then potentiometer sticks, but the minor drift at rest will be there if no deadzones are applied.

      Hey, I think its not bad at all and won't affect game play. The whole mechanism is relying on the spring now, as there is no friction from the potentiometer, so even little bit loss of spring tension could feel a lot more.
      Mind you I really tested this thing and was being harsh whilst gaming so that can be a big reason as well.
      It'll become an issue if its over 8-9% coz keeping a 10% deadzone one can feel the stick being a bit sluggish.
