  • I was back in Los Angeles last week, staying with my friend, Joey. As we discussed some of the things I wanted to do while I was in town, I mentioned Norman's Rare Guitars to which he replied, "they're right down the street".

    Hello Sir.
    I got an ibanez sr506E and am experiencing a buzz on the fret the moment i changed the strings, i only adjusted the bridge but the strings is a little bit high..
    I wanted to know if you have made progress from your sr506e? I will really need help to adjust my fret

      I made progress with it but it was all in the truss rod adjustment.

    I can’t play with out flats. Rounds have always felt nasty to me :) awesome vid looks like a fun day

    The harmonics were much clearer on the P bass with flats than I expected. I believe the 1959/60 designation could refer to a '59 body with a 1960 neck, but don't quote me on that.

      You may be correct. I will look into that because there's a bit of mystery surrounding the year my 66 P-Bass was made. After 24 years, I have yet to take it apart to verify but most experts swear that the neck may be a 61 or 62, even though the neck plate shows it could be 70s. Something is definitely up with that but I've always felt like if ain't broke don't fix it.

    Nice video. My daughter and I happened to be in the store last Saturday when you filmed this! FYI - Norm's is in Tarzana, not Reseda.

      Thank you!...Small world!
      I can't tell you how many corrections I made to the text info in that video, only to screw up the city right in the beginning. The funny thing is that originally, I had it written as "Los Angeles" and changed it. I was actually staying right down the street in Reseda, hence the error. I appreciate you pointing that out. I'll figure out a way to correct it.

    I find it takes a good hour of noodling to get my intonation back, same as you, I played fretless nearly all the time when a lot younger...It's a great flex 😂

    • @progrockjock
      @progrockjock  19 дней назад +1

      Hey man! I hope all is well with you. My peak with fretless really was at age 20. At a certain point, I had to accept that I'm truly cut out to play the fretless as my main instrument. I was reminded of this after buying that BFR Stingray last year. I have been selling off instruments I'm no longer playing but for now, I'm keeping that one and the Pedulla, which is still my "till death" bass. All of my other fretless basses have been sold, as well as my 6-string basses.

    • @Al_Mac125
      @Al_Mac125 19 дней назад

      @@progrockjock oh yes your Pedulla is lovely & sounds great. I no longer have a dedicated fretless but I have a CIJ Fender Jazz fretless neck that I put on one of my P basses when I need it. Last used on two tracks of a prog album.
      I've pretty much stopped using 5s now due to my joint hand issues. Thinking of selling my BBNE2 too that I thought would be with me to the bitter end lol.
      Did you check you insta DMs?

    • @progrockjock
      @progrockjock  19 дней назад +1

      Thanks! I really hurt that Pedulla by swapping out the Bartolini's for EMGs. After switching back, the electronics haven't been the same. I'm sorry to hear about your hand joint issues. You sound a play great on that Yamaha in recent videos! No, I haven't checked my instagram in close to a year but I guess I should check it now...

    This was a fun video. Not sure why it matters that most ric players moved to Fenders, tho. I think most bassist know the extensive issues with Rics. You get a great one or you don't get one, right?

    • @progrockjock
      @progrockjock  19 дней назад +1

      I agree. I really do love Rickenbacker basses. That's the second one I played that really put its hooks in me but I believe there's a walnut 4003 with my name on it out there somewhere for about $1,300 less. Speaking of all the bassist who end up dumping Rics, I'm working on what might become another semi-controversial Rickenbacker video soon...

      I sold a 78 Rick that turned out to have every single problem known to a Ric. Bridge lifting, flat mandolin frets, nut horribly cut from the factory, tuners are loose and have to be tuned up only, trussrods work but the neck is cemented in place, and the worst of all, it's a 4000 set-neck and it has shifted, which now needs a reset...Since then I've bought a mid 90s 4004 that is absolutely perfect. Super low action, high gain humbuckers that still keep the Ric growl, good bridge and tuners.
