Thanks for sharing that. I’m sorry about your mom. Music helps get me through things too. Sometimes it helps me create the emotion I might now show or share on my own. I’ll get to stuff eventually that helped or helps me get through some tough times. Hope she can handle it all. LOL. She’s a trouper.
Subscribed. This is too sweet and it's cool to see people talk about music especially between a parent and their son or daughter. Music is forever and it's a language all generations enjoy. Btw i suggest sober live version
First comments second sub first like...Love that you are sending your Mom down the rabbit hole! I would like to suggest Lateralus, Parabol&Parabola, The Pot and Jimmy, Judith(APC), Wings for Marie & 10.000 days...
You guys are terrific 👍🏼. Hope to see a lot more reactions. I like your idea of researching the song a bit before having your mom listen 😉👍🏼. In addition to any Tool (which I love) , would love to see a reaction to "Aerials" by System Of A Down. 😀
I don't think she will like most of their stuff but she might like this song. I will add it to the list. So much great stuff to do. Thank you for recommending it.
@@hangingwithmom4364 if you read the lyrics and reflect on them, alot of the time you can see a meaning or feeling for them in your own life. Half the fun is filling in the bits you dont get, with your own life experience, or thinking about them deeper and the possibilities of what it could mean. Then when you research it, it may actually be different, and you get a new layer, and a new layer of reflecting to your own life.
Got ya. Thanks for responding. We are going to do Wings 1/2 so I’ve given her some back story and a video to watch to get her a little prepared. This sounds opposite of what your saying but I think it will help soften her to MJK so she cares about him more when it’s time for some of the rougher stuff. We’ll see. I’m not sure how she’ll like the music but I hope it at least touches her. I know it does for me.
Subbed, keep it up! Love seeing people discover Tool, if she likes his voice may I suggest you show her some Puscifer, Horizons is a good place to start. A bit softer and mellow but still amazing!
Every song has a meaning in Tool. Sometimes the meaning is “fuck you.” Sometimes the meaning is “who just fucked me?” But most of the time it’s “what the fuck is everyone’s problem?”
Tool has songs that are longer than "Right in Two," i.e. "Rosetta Stoned" but you should listen to "Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann)" first.. That is an 11 minute song; approximately eleven minutes and eleven seconds long to be exact.
Yes, interesting perspective and great song. She liked it even more the second time she heard it. I think a lot of them will go that way. Thank you for watching.
Definitely Parabol/Parabola, Lateralus are uplifting, I would even say, Jimmy and Jambi are pretty uplifting as well. You’ll have her diving down the Tool rabbit hole before too long. You earned a sub .
Hey thanks. I really appreciate it. I'm really looking forward to this journey. She saw some comments and knew what song was coming next. I told her she better not go and listen to it. ha
Hanging with Mom, I also think giving her Maynard’s mom’s backstory, on video, then having her listen to Wings for Marie/10,000 days will be pretty touching. Not sure you should show her Judith before that, but having her listen to a Jimmy after she hears the backstory, would help explain Maynard’s healing.
@@hangingwithmom4364 Awesome man, I showed my mom wings/10,000 days and gave her the full back story... she was in tears by the end of it! Greatest love song ever written. Can't wait to see your moms reaction. Also, subbed 👍 All the best.
I think taking in a song, a long song, a Tool song, is a lot for anyone the first time. For someone 'older' I think that becomes much more difficult. Younger people expect the harder parts of the song, but I don't believe many 'older' are prepared for something like this and thus the first time. Perhaps hearing the same song twice, knowing what's coming, might find more ease listening to the song vs. the unknown. Another question is does your mom enjoy rock music? or does she prefer a different genre? I could see just as the strong grew, just as it entered 'the war' period of the song your mom was totally turned off. It was subtle, but I think what goes into this is she doesn't want to hurt your feelings by saying anything negative. She enjoys the time with you and will endure anything you want to listen to. The 2nd song? I would try something shorter like Forty Six & Two. Certainly more upbeat. lol Don't play a super long one, yet. I am a huge Tool fan. Going to see them in May. Really looking forward to the new album! Peace!
Awesome comments. Thank you. She definitely doesn’t listen to this type of music but we have this interesting connection with the way the music or instruments make us feel. I know we will find common ground there. I’m going to get some headphones so she can really appreciate all the nuances of someone like Tool. She might be a little shocked by some of it but that’s ok. It’s a small window into my world. Looking forward to some older Metallica and some Slipknot in the future. 😆 Ether way, she’s a great sport and I love her. Definitely appreciate you watching. We’ll get better after a few more.
@@hangingwithmom4364 I shared a similar bond with my father. I brought him home to NJ (from FLA) a few years after my mom had passed. I could see he needed me. He lived with me until he passed at 91 back in 15'. We went to the gym every day. Be sure to tell her don't hold back. You can take it whatever she has to dish. I don't believe anyone here thinks she'll become a big Tool fan, but this should be fun! Good luck with your endeavors!
Also... have fun at the concert. I’ve seen my favorites and they by far sounded the best. So clean and effortless. Danny had an amazing solo that was probably 15 minutes or more. I could have listened for an hour. Ha.
Wings for Marie both parts after you have shown her Judith from a perfect circle possibly. Though Judith might leave a bad taste in her mouth without the context where as wings for Marie may not have as big an impact without her having heard Judith. Its sadly a vicious cycle that I'm sure you know well from people lol
@@hangingwithmom4364 that's definitely a smart way to handle it :) don't forget songs like the pot that have more of a lighter jam once she has a solid step into their music. XD anyone I have shown tool to have either loved or hated them after the first few songs they check out
Flat, echo monotone speakers are blasphemy for any Tool recording. There is a reason they layer so many sounds and tones. You cannot appreciate any of that with gross sounding flat speakers.
We’re working on it. I want to be a lot better at these but I didn’t want to wait to get it perfect, I just wanted to start. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hanging with Mom Are you on meth? Word babble in response to my succinct comment is a tell. I was being kind. I don’t know what you done since, don’t care. Still, that first one was trash, and you know it.
“But I can’t compare it to anything”
God damn right you can’t
She likes uplifting, try parablol/parabola, or Lateralis next.
Oh yeah, we'll be getting to those.
I would like to suggest wings for Marie pt1 and pt2, a perfect circle 'judith' and 'orestes'. This songs are about maynard's mom.
I love those songs. We will definitely get to them. Thank you for your comments.
Very cool!! TooL is like today’s generations Pink Floyd/ The Doors
I love Pink Floyd too. Just took my kids to the laser light show. Pretty cool.

Reflection is uplifting
Thank you for this suggestion. I feel like I’m going to have to show her every tool song. All so good.
For uplifting Tool songs you could try The Patient, 46 & 2, or Disposition/Reflection/Triad.

Thanks. She was a little nervous. I'm hoping she becomes a little more animated. Ha, me too for that matter.
You can't just throw mom down that rabbit hole from the git go lol nice job tho love the reaction
There's am acoustic version of this song, done by Beard of Harmony. They nail it, man. You should check it out, mom
I love you guys already. Subscribed 😁

The lyrics video has "cut it all right in two" when the correct is "cut and divide it all right in two"
Roger Cruz does it really matter?
Two years later I ended up saying the same comment. I’ll just leave it

Thanks for the sub. I've actually never listened to Puscifer. Looks like that will be a first for us both.
Its Maynard's other other band. Great stuff but very different from Tool
Very cool, welcome aboard.
Great one to start with being it kinda spans and encapsulates tools tendencies and depth
Thank you. Looking forward to getting into it all.
ok im hooked, i would be honored to go one this journey with you and your mom.
This is awesome! Thank you for coming along. It’s been fun so far and as long as it stays that way, we’ll keep going. So much great music to hear.

Sometimes the meaning is “who just fucked me?”

Hahaha. Yes! AEnema
I wish my Mom would jam out to some Tool with me
Cool intro, some great movies.

Without bass one doesn't get to feel the full magnitude of TOOL. You must have every piece of the puzzle for it to be complete.
Headphones will be used from now on. We’ll get it all. Thanks for watching.
Parabol + Parabola next!
I got you!

Great one to ease her into it 🤘
also, i see this channel being really big in the near future ;p
at least, as soon as the tool fans find it!
Hope I can keep up. It's really just a fun way to hang out with my mom more.
APC Brena
Also another great recommendation. Haven’t even explored APC yet. Definitely a lot to do. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
She will dig it just keep working on her :) your mom is cool bro
Ha, thanks man. I appreciate and I know she will too.
I find jambi to be uplifting.
And the Grudge from lateralis album also push it live from salival album
Yes. So much great Tool to do.
I think right in two was a solid choice for her first tool experience but maybe she needed to be a little more prepared :D
good stuff!
Sometimes you have to just jump in the pool, forget dipping your toe. Haha. Thanks for watching and commenting. She really liked Parabol.
The lyric is supposed to be "Gotta divide it all right in two", not cut it all right in two.
Lateralus might be a good one for her to listen to.
Oh no, to think a talking monkey could make such an egregious error 😲
Subbed for Tool .....as usual...
Appreciate it. Much more to come, stay tuned.
I notice that a lot of the the lyrics say “ cut it all, right in two” but I swear he’s saying “cut and divide-it-all, right in two”
it's a song written from the point of view of the angels staring in confusion at God's little experiment that he chose over them.
Yes, interesting perspective and great song. She liked it even more the second time she heard it. I think a lot of them will go that way. Thank you for watching.
I like to think it's from Archangel Gabriel's point of view from the movie The Prophecy 😁
