1959 ൽ കേരളാ ഗവണ്മെന്റ് പാസ്സാക്കിയ ഭൂപരിഷ്കരണ നിയമം മൂലമാണ് കുടിയാന്മാർക്കു അവരുടെ ഭൂമിയിൽ ഉടമസ്ഥാവകാശം ലഭിച്ചത്. ഞാൻ അനുഭവസ്ഥനാണ്. അതിനുമുമ്പുവരെ എൻ്റെ വാസഭൂമി മനവകയായിരുന്നു. ഞാൻ മനയ്ക്കലെ നമ്പൂരിക്ക് പ്രതിവർഷം ഒരു തുക പാട്ടം കൊടുക്കണമായിരുന്നു.
അന്നൊരിക്കൽ അച്ഛൻ എന്റെ കയ്യിൽ പാട്ടക്കാശായ കറൻസി നോട്ട് തന്നിട്ട് അത് നമ്പൂരിയില്ലത്ത് കൊണ്ടുപോയി കൊടുക്കാൻ പറഞ്ഞു. ഞാൻ മനയ്ക്കലെത്തിയപ്പോൾ മനയുടെ മുറ്റത്തിനരികത്തുകൂടി ഒഴുകിയിരുന്ന തോടിന്റെ മറുകരയിൽനിന്നുകൊണ്ട് നമ്പൂരി എന്നോട് പറഞ്ഞു: അതവിടെ നിലത്തുവച്ചിട്ട് പുറകോട്ട് മാറി നിൽക്കൂ.
അന്ന് അയിത്തമുള്ള കാലമാണ്. ഞാൻ നോട്ട് നിലത്തുവച്ചിട്ട് പറഞ്ഞു: ഇത് അശുദ്ധമായ നോട്ടാണ്. ആ വെള്ളത്തിലൊന്നു കഴുകിയെടുക്കണേ .
എന്നിട്ട് ഞാൻ എന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു നടന്നു. ഈ വിവരം കേട്ടപ്പോൾ അച്ഛൻ പേടിച്ചുപോയി. നമ്പൂരി തന്റെ നായർ സേവകരെ വിട്ട് എന്നെ തല്ലിചതച്ചില്ലല്ലോ.
