It never hurts to kick the tires and see if something can be worked out. Of course, if Notre Dame were to join a conference it would be the Big 10.

ND after getting to the final 2 will never join a conference. Just play an easy schedule ,WIN and will get invited every year to the CFP. Cannot blame them.

Couz, you are 100% correct on Yormark asking ND to join. You are also correct ND will say no.
If the ACC falls apart; ND first call will be the Big East for all their non-football teams. ND, and I can’t explain why, will always have a slot in the CFP.
Agree ND having a home game isn’t a bad thing.
And, ND being a private school; we don’t know their athletic finances. They can be sitting on a lot more money than we think.

Been saying for over 3 years that ND only joins a conference if either a) the revenue gap starts to materially impact competitiveness or b) reasonable access to the playoff is at risk.

You have been getting banned from shows and falsely predicting every move during realignment. Everyone remembers your wrong takes on AAU membership, Oregon & Washington, Cal/Furd, UNC to the SEC.
UNC still has no spot in the SEC and never will. Enjoy that ACC contract until 2036.

The Mountaineer players in the Fiesta Bowl said that Notre Dame players spit in their faces, poked them in their eyes, punched them and kicked them in the pile. They cussed out our players on every play. Dirtiest team they had played all season. Another reason to not like those hypocrites.

Some day when collegiate football becomes privatized and follows the NFL model they'll have to join the league. I could see the Vatican reconfiguring Notre Dame as a for profit investment/contracting out to a general manager. The programs not included in the top 40 programs will need to form another league.

According to the Department of Education's "Equity in Athletics" web site, Notre Dame's total athletic department revenue is $224,191,928
That's less than top revenue schools like Texas ($261M) or Ohio State ($250) but I don't think it's enough of a difference to force their hand towards joining the Big Ten (can't see how they would ever join anyone else).

  • @gijakob

Notre Dame would likely join the B1G because most of their rivals are there... but it's worth a shot! They would be a HUGE addition to the Big 12 (better than UT Austin and Brokelahoma)

The big 12 makes sense considering they don’t have a problem with religious based institutions. 3 members of the B12 are religious institutions (BYU, Baylor, TCU).
But overall, if you’re talking about tradition, rivalries, geography, etc, then the only conference that should be after ND is the B1G.

Notre dame will never join a conference until they are made to . And if they win tonight they will be back in the national spot light for another 20 years.
I will say this also , I love Notre dame today . The teams and coaches of past I hated, but their new coach is very cool and a great guy and I love him and Notre dame truly is an underdog in todays game because they don’t just take any kid coming out of the ghetto that can’t read and write . They have a different bunch of athletes compared to say who they are playing tonight who will do anything to get anyone that can help them win . Players take basket weaving and water polo at Ohio state . At Notre dame you going to school or you won’t play .

I maintain that the SEC is not an option for ND. It would have joined the ACC by now if avoiding the B1G was a higher priority. Most likely, no ND official wants to be the one to may an inevitable decision to join a conference, so it will be the B1G absent an ACC miracle.

Doesn’t make sense for them to join any conference they can build their own schedule for one. Two if they make the playoffs and win playoff games they don’t have to share the prize money with other conference members.

Actually ,when you think about it , it makes more sense for Ohio State to become independent than Notre Dame join a conference.

    • @JJG84679
      @JJG84679 16 дней назад

Texas has more than Ohio State. I'll almost wager Texas and a few other programs have researched becoming independent and found they were better off having conference affiliation. I'm no fan of Notre Dame but the truth be known they have resources that dwarf all other collegiate programs. For decades they've had the exclusive contract with NBC to broadcast every single game to a national audience/ Unfettered by cable/dish subscriptions. For years Notre Dame had unremarkable seasons but with huge/affluent fan base and the attraction of opposing fans always likely had off the chart tv ratings.

Why the heck would ND even be interested in the B12? ND is not going to join a conference plus they are contractually tied to the ACC if they join a conference.

If ND joins the BXII and is on the WVU schedule, a day they will regret because we senior WVU elephants will not let them forget their '89 Fiesta Bowl scandal their team in 1991 at SI in NYC confessed to in taking PESs before the game to ensure the victory AND their cowardess in not doing the right thing to give the trophy back yo the NCAA. NBC Sports made sure this was spiked except for the August '91 edition of SI who covered the entire story.

I don't believe for a second that this would happen but aside from that, I'm a "no" to both questions. I agree with what Dr. Gee said while he was at Ohio State, that they would not be a good conference mate. Whatever conference they consider joining, beware, because they would want more than any other school in said conference which gives them an unfair advantage. Let them stay independent if they are so valuable. I'd like to see all conferences agree not to schedule them. It's a fact that they play a weak schedule but yet here they are in the National Championship.
