      @Herny TudorFord thank you so much! Our phonetics lecturer is actually very well-qualified and she demands us to sound British. It was surprising that I didn't know something as simple as "aren't".

      That's British pronounciation.

      Just so you know, if you pronounce "aren't" like "aunt" in America or Canada, we will have no idea what you're saying. Just be aware that this is British pronunciation only, and that if you need to use "aren't" outside of British speaking countries, you will need to pronounce the "r" to be understood. Especially in the USA.

    With my particular American accent, I pronounce "aren't" arnt, with a rhotic r. In New York City, certain people say a-rent. aren't and aunt are two completely different sounds.

      Yes, we do indeed pronounce the "r" in the USA and Canada. The British way of pronouncing the word like "aunt" will not be understood very well outside of England or British speaking countries.

    I love how you speak, Gill. I'm fluent in English but i always love to watch your basic English lessons specially because i have forgotten all the British pronunciation since i lived in the US for a while. In fact, i can only understand RP most of the times, and i struggle with the rest of the accents in the UK. 😄
