Just a tip for anyone with 5.3 97-05, you can do this repair from the open hood position without jacking the truck or removal of and skid / splash guards. Use a 15mm +wobble+3” extension. That combo will get you past the trans cooler lines just enough to make it work. Start with a ratchet to break each side and then go cordless or pneumatic for the rest . When reinstalling the new one , do it first with both bolts already through the new tensioner for easy alignment. A drop light is helpful hung from the hood release latch. Tighten tensioner and then use a cheater bar and 3/8” ratchet to pre tension the tensioner with no hands. Then you are free to finagle the belt and release tension.

That deepwell socket is the key here.
I have a 2004 Yukon Denali, I bought a Dayco Poly V belt for the AC and it seems small. I watched this video and noticed you didn’t have to fight with the belt like that. You were able to put it around both Crankshaft and AC compressor pulleys before using the tensioner. I can’t even put this Dayco crap around both pulleys so I think I have the wrong one. I should not be here struggling and fighting with this belt if it was truly the right size
Brian, different engines were optional for that car so double check to make sure the parts store gave you the right belt for your particular motor.

Great Video , thank you so much .
Thanks Dave and no problem!
Thank you for The video
No problem!
How did you know you had to replace the a/c belt tensioner?
I replaced the belt because it was super cracked and dry and i replaced the tensioner just because it wasnt very much more to buy it and i was already going to be down there with the belt off so i figured i would just swap it out before it had any issues
But usually they will start to squeal or rattle when they are going bad
Very good video thanks!
Thank you!
im having time hard trying finding the belt for ac online
Awesome video, helped alot
I replaced the tensioner but once I started it, it now makes like a rattle sound and not sure what it could be
Could it be coming from the main belt tensioner or are you pretty sure its coming from the ac belt?
@@MaxF01 originally the initial problem was the ac tensioner was jumping everytime I would push on my gas pedal. I pulled it off and seemed like the springs in the tensioner were bad so I replaced it and the a/c belt but now it makes a rattle sound even when it's just idling
@@pudge8851 thats weird, does it sound like something is loose? You could try wiggle all of the pieces that the belt runs on and make sure that none of them are loose
@@MaxF01 I'm going to work on it later today and double check everything. Thanks for your input
@@pudge8851 no problem man hope you can get it figured out 👍🏼
