Welcome to our family. You know if you have Ghost, you have everything ❤️ . Tobias wears a silicone mask. That's why you can't see his lips move. The musicians are called Nameless Ghouls. And Tobias is now Papa Emeritus lV. Keep the reactions coming and you will learn more. If you like live videos do Mary on a cross live in Tampa. ,👍
He cant go wrong with ghost, rats from the new album is also good, or any song from meloria. Don't listen much to ghost anymore because it was my ex whom liked them alot and played them often for me and meloria was his favorite, so I'm not gonna act like i know all their songs or lore
Yes, this is Papa Emeritus IV. The album version of this song is longer - longer intro, solo and outro. Listen to *Impera* where this is from! Truly a fabulous album. Every track is a killer.
@@oldstonerunto answer one of the questions you'd had asked during the chorus There are a couple of the nameless ghouls that sing backup that are female, so they're referred to as "Ghoulettes"
This performance on the Jimmy Kimmel Show was my introduction to Ghost. Tobias Forge's costume, mask & makeup are so creepy, mysterious and theatrical. The song is so dark and yet so catchy, and the live performance is in an actual mausoleum. Forge is a musical genius, a great singer and showman, and a burlesque style comedian of the macabre all rolled into one. The studio version of this song is great as well, but I love the sound of the bass and the standout backing vocals on the Kimmel version. Very few reaction videos feature this performance, so I applaud you for choosing it. 👏👍🤘
it’s so nice to finally see someone acknowledge Swiss’ little show off moment at 8:21 ! Swiss, a back up vocalist for Ghost (real name Jutty Taylor) has such a beautiful voice, i’d love to see you reaction to some of his music! maybe Egyptian Flesh by his band Dragtalk? lovely reaction, i adore your vibes 🫶🏻
Ghost is far and away the best live show I have ever seen. If you get a chance, hit a show. Just amazing. Forge has a stage presence that is amazing live.
If you are interested in these stuff, there's a fairly big "lore" in Ghost: Basically, there's this ancient satanic cult called "The Clergy", which wanted to spread the word of Satan in the most effective way possible. In the late 60's/early 70's, since Rock music was on a global hype, they decided to spread the word that way, creating a Rock band called Ghost. The lead singer would always have the title of "Papa" (which means pope). The first one was called Papa Nihil (the one we see earning the face paint and the white eye in 'Dance Macabre' music video). Following the downfall of Rock and the lack of the fast spreading technology at the time, Ghost went into the shadows and was never seen again... until 2010, when the band suddenly reappears, since modern technology has reached the point they needed with the Internet available worldwide. Now with a new lead singer: Papa Emeritus I (eldest son of Papa Nihil), they released the first album (Opus Eponymous). After that, each album would a new front man. That being said, we had Papa Emeritus II (younger brother of the previous one) on 'Infestissuman' (2013), Papa Emeritus III (youngest of the brothers) on 'Meliora' (2015) and then, all of the sudden, all 3 were mysteriously murdered, leaving the front man role open, but no more Papa Nihil sons to fill in. Because of that, they were forced to, for the first time, use someone out of the bloodline, and, as so, he couldn't be called "papa". Sister Imperator, a high rank woman in The Ministry (the woman we see initiating Nihil in 'Dance Macabre' music video), pointed Cardinal Copia for the 4th album ('Prequelle', 2018). Nihil strongly opposed the choice but ultimately had to accept it, as long as he stayed cardinal and was never elevated to the rank o papa. Papa Nihil, despite his advanced age, used to make an appearance at the concerts playing a saxophone solo in the song 'Miasma'. In one of the concerts, he dies onstage. Now, with the old leader dead, Sister Imperator promoted Cardinal Copia to papa, officially named Papa Emeritus IV and he was the front man for the 5th and current album, "Impera', from 2022. The music video for the song 'Kiss The Go Goat' (supposedly a song from the old days when the band was formed in the 60's when Nihil was still the lead singer) reveals us some details from the past. Back then, Nihil and Imperator were lovers, but as he was becoming a rockstar, he was getting too much attention from his female fans and for that reason they eventually broke up. Sister Imperator was pregnant at that time, but never told him. Now, in current days, she was actually the one who ordered all Nihil's sons to be killed, so she could point someone new to the role and that someone was gonna be Cardinal Copia, her and Nihil's bastard son. That way, she got her revenge and at the same time could put his bastard son in his place of right, as papa and leader of the band. Obviously, all of this is just fiction and was being slowly revealed through the years by all sorts of media (specially short lore videos they release on the band's RUclips channel). The lead singer behind the mask (it's always a realistic mask, never his real face), songwriter and creator of it all is Tobias Forge. All of the albums are always conceptual too. The first 3 were 3 parts of a same story. 'Opus Eponymous' was about the annunciation of the Antichrist coming to Earth. Ends with the song 'Genesis', meaning his birth. The next record, 'Infestissuman', starts telling us the Antihrist announced before is actually the son of Lucifer himself and the album describes his first contact with mankind. Next one, 'Meliora', jumps in time and is about the relationship between the Antichrist and the mankind growing stronger and stronger to the point we reach the absolute absence of God, masked by the last song of the album, 'Deus in Absentia". The next 2 had a new concepts of their own. 'Prequelle' compared faith and blind belief to a plague, dangerous and fast spreading (having the Black Plague as the conceptual background for the comparison). And, finally, 'Impera' is about the mankind's fetish for power and how frail it is. It takes empires as an example, since every single one of them throughout history has risen and fallen. It's always a cycle that never failed before and never will. So, also modern empires, no matter how unbreakable they seem to be, will eventually fall and it's just a matter of time. Well... that's only the tip of the iceberg. Give them a chance. It only gets better and better. It's really hard to think of a single one Ghost song that's not a damn earworm, but I'd suggest those below because of... being easily available with good quality of video and sound: • Mary On A Cross ( ruclips.net/video/NmxFxBiCrL4/видео.html )
This is the most comprehensive comment, explaining Ghost's concept storyline + what they're all about. I was a bit confused about the fact that they were formed in 2006, but there was the entire 1969 Papa Nihil thing, which I figured out late it's just part of the story. Thanks a lot, your comment really highlights their greatness and uniqueness!
Ghost currently utilizes 4 backup singers. 1 male. 3 female. Technically, during this recording, they used to have 2 males doing backups, but on this current tour they replaced the black guitar with someone who doesn't sing. As for "I've been duped" not sure what that means to you. It's a mask. He always wears a mask. The singer is also the only actual member of the band and is the main writer (or only writer) of every song. There are different musicians for the albums and an entirely different group that performs live... except the singer who is always the same.
I keep coming back to watch this video. There's something about watching someone else discover Ghost for the first time that just brings incalculable amounts of joy to my heart.
You're in it now, dude! Definitely check out their "Mary on a Cross" (the live in Tampa version). You won't believe how many people showed up dressed to the hilt and knowing all of the lyrics. My neighbor happened to walk by while I was watching the video and she said "Well, Tampa is obviously going to hell." LOL!
Yo! Nice reaction man, good catch on the backing vocalists, you should check out Ghost's live from the ministry, is basically a compilation of songs they did live in a closed space during the pandemic but you can really hear the backing vocalists there much better (mostly the female ones ) keep it up!
best reaction video ever. all the other guitar/singing/music pros and teachers are just telling how amazing ghost is for 15 minutes. I like the analyzation of techniques and used styles.. very well... 😄
Great video! I just recently found Ghost and have fallen completely in love. I don’t remember the last time I was this excited about a band. I have a 9 month old and I love that it’s clean catchy music I can sing with him. He’s even started to move and rock out with me 😆
Watched a lot of Ghost reactions but your ending was one of the best! To just look into the camera, laugh and say repeatedly "I'm a Ghost fan" .... welcome to the ministry, you have so much more brilliant music ahead of you.
Ghost is amazing. They never disappoint! I’m glad you already love them! It’s hard to stop loving them, I’ve been loving them for almost a year now! Im glad they’re getting the recognition they deserve 🫶
This singer is a master in this performance. His hand movements are masterful and that is creating a very powerful image. Sometimes less is truly more.
Those spots in the song where he goes down to a minor key are trademark Forge. I love how he goes down and she goes UP! It’s gorgeous. The more you listen to his music, the more beautiful it becomes. It’s complex and ornate but never pretentious or self indulgent. He’s always makes it pretty and there’s a logic to his composition which makes it satisfying. It goes where it should go and he does the right things at exactly the right moments. Hmmm…
Mind you, the lead singer (Tobias Forge) is wearing a silicone mask. So, that is the reason you see his mouth rarely move, because his whole face is under a silicone mask, lol. Glad you made a reaction video of Little Sunshine!
The bassist(Rain) uses black and white Fender Jazz, the lead guitarist(Sodo) uses all white Fender Stratocaster and the rythm guitarist(Aether) uses all black Hagstrom Fantomen 😊
Good one, man... subscribed 🙂 Welcome to the family.. A lot has been said already, both regarding Lore and song recommendations.. All I can add is of course that you can not "categorize" what type of music Ghost play from any single one of their songs, as the diversity in their catalog is huge. Only recommendation I can add to the pile is of course the song "Twenties" from their latest album "Impera". It can be described as metal reggeaton 🤘 Looking forward to the next one!
Loved your video! If I could recommend a song of theirs to you I'd say Spillways the music video because it's what I saw first about 2 days ago and since then I've been hooked. Bought their 2 most recent records lol. Spillways (my recommended song) is basically if abba and black sabbath combined with a twist. It's really neat. To me this band is a persona used to convey fun and enjoyment to people. Even this song to me I've made it almost like a metaphor for its okay to embrace your darker side to cope with things and get through tough times. Maybe it's just I heard this band when I needed a message like that so I heard it whether it was there or not. Anyway, loved your video, there's my song recommendation, hope you're having a great day surrounded by awesome music 🎶

This is a great description of Ghost. I stumbled upon Ghost too late for the Impera tour and I'm still so sad about it
