  • Every year thousands of Mormon youth travel to Wyoming from across the United States to pay tribute to the pioneers who settled the West. WyomingPBS explores the challenges and lessons learned as they walk, push, and pull their belongings by handcart for over 30 miles across the barren Wyoming plains. Some of my relatives went on the Mormon trail. They went all the way from aberdeen in Scotland. William ledingham left a story saying he helped protect the pioneers from the natives but many died from illness and hunger. Imagine pulling your goods in handcarts. Very brave!

During 1857-58 Mormon uprising, thousands of US army marched across Wyoming on their way to salt lake City. Mormons were burning large areas so the military stock had no forage. Wyoming sure has a lot of interesting history to tell, whether some people like it or not.

Right, aside from some very light shootouts and the horrifically tragic massacre at Mountain Meadows, it was a relatively bloodless "rebellion". Very interesting bit of Western History that not many know of :)

These pioneers had no choice. They had to either find a better life for themselves or die trying.
