Appreciate your honesty, my motto is "Nothing is easy"... I liked that you made a mistake and figured it out while making the video, didn't edit it. Stuff happens, deal with it. Good job.
Dude the editing and production is pretty good. I liked the music when the truck was driving. Question how did you get those 2 shot of the truck from so far away. Drone or bridge or....
Hey Joe, i have that exact laser measurer he is using, I love it. It is very accurate and handy. It saves loads of time for measuring large areas for flooring or lengths of wood. It also has a square footage calculation option programmed in as well as cubic area and a couple other useful options. Hope this helps. 🙂
Love your videos - I have learned a lot from them! One suggestion about the problem fitting the initial long beam with the window crown interference - I believe if you had raised the faux beam up to the ceiling just beyond the crown and then it brought it back over it would have worked - but know you didn't have much clearance with exact measurement so this may have involved slight dragging across the walls to bring it back into position. But you got it worked out anyway!
You might need to look into building one or two of those Paulk workbenches I’ve seen here on RUclips. Seems that would help your workflow and give you some adequate workspace up off the ground. I think he is a finish carpenter also from what I understand. Search Ron Paulk good guy lots of good ideas too.
I watched the video when you went to the high school to talk to the carpentry students and I just want to tell you thanks for doing that, sharing your story how you have been growing in your business is amazing and inspirational; for everybody specially for the teenagers who don't know what to do for living yet Thank you, GOD bless you
Thanks for showing the work around for the challenge at 10:15. The pattern stayed the same but the direction you ran the boards changed. Therefore you could use the same holes but wouldn't need to as the existing holes could/would be covered by the shorter runs. Also at 12:30 there is some interesting crown behind you that I would like to seeing how it's cut and installed. Could you link me to a video showing that if you know of one please? Richard, I am not only impressed with the quality of your videos and teaching but also in the amount of content you provide. Really appreciate you guys. And it looks like the more videos you do the straighter your teeth are getting. :)
On your first beam take your small sample. trace and cut through the Sheetrock with a razor knife. Then remove as much as yo need to get the beam in place. Do this on both ends for a really authentic look. Keep up the good work.
On the ends of the faux beams against the wall.. measure tight but bevel the ends into their selves. The foam being soft will crush as it needs more room.
Thanks work as usual I like all the explanations when you watch that RUclips all you see is people doing nobody explains what’s going on I like the explanations it helps all DYI’S. I like to see more Coffered ceiling work and it’s Intercal detailing
Hiii! Ok, so.. I have searched high and low for a response and didnt see one. May I please have the name of the stain color you used?? Also, curious where the foam beams were purchased THANK YOU!!!!!!!
I like the style of this video, the content was interesting and although 19 minutes long the time did not drag. the drone footage was cool and even the trip to home Depot was interesting, keep up the good work !
Enjoying your vids. You should consider adding the dewalt belt clips to your drill, impact, multitool ect. It makes climbing a ladder with materials and tools a lot easier.
Simon bleed those beams would be on floor in a month or two if you try to use strips of Sheetrock. You’ve gotta have something that you cAn sink a screw into and have it hold for the next 50 years at least. Most trim guys actually use a 2”x6” for this job but it looks like he was using a 5/4x6” board to me. He is doing it correctly tho, anything less is a shortcut that will not last
Installed a few beams when I spent time in canada, the pocks are handy to prop the beams up into position while you screw/pin them and also you can get a look at it from ground level before fixing them.
Thanks for the educational and informative videos. Your professionalism shows. A whole lot of contractors I've been around couldn't film the process / jobs because they would show how poor the craftsmanship is and how messy the job sites are. Always enjoy your videos.
Great video. All the videos are awesome, but this is a neat idea to add a different dynamic to the dinning room. I really enjoy the quality and knowledge shared on this channel. Thanks.
May I know what type of lumber did you use, the mock seemed light in weight Your manual saw is good, what do you call it and what's the brand? What's the size of your beam, width and height
eats up money when those jobs go long..... dude your giving them too much.... everybody wants there houses on the cover of Better Homes and Gardens.... and I know those folks are not coughing up the cash ..... you giving your work away....
I've been on 6 or 7 man residential trim crews on 6-8 month long projects. Funny huh..stupid funny if you ask me.. But there some homes full of paneling that take awhile to build.
I really enjoyed watching this video-it’s great when a problem works itself out without someone getting hurt or costing someone a bunch of money! Do you encounter window trim like that very often?
Thanks for showing that projects don't always go as planned, even for professionals, and how to recover. Really enjoy the videos you make and am learning a lot that helps in my DYI projects around the house. Thanks!
I can't imagine the beams are going to be completely flush with the texture of the wall. Do add some sort of filler at the end or is it not as noticeable as I made it out to be? Thanks for the great vid as well!
Great video as always!! Could you do one explaining when you should use caulk vs wood filler vs putty? It's something I would be really interested in. BTW, have you ever tried using Snaptoggles instead of toggle bolts? I love these anchors. A bit pricey but they work great.
Great video...you guys are actually human and make mistakes! First attempt looks totally like something I would have done and been cursing about it the rest of the day. Thank you for the great videos and proving even pro"s make mistakes. Will be doing foam beams in our renovation so this one and your next helps!
With the plywood I get around here I'd be concerned about being able to keep a crisp Edge of a 45 on my plywood I would almost have to buy cabinet grade before I think the edge would stay halfway decent, did that work out for you? I just did a project with supposed BC plywood and have so many splinters in my hands it's not even funny and I'm glad that these were utility cabinets because quite a few of the edges have splintered off and that's just a straight 90 degree cut.
I was thinking the same. They kept struggling with it on an angle. Could of held it level at the end wall, get it higher than the window height and moved it over to the board on the ceiling.
Sorry I this was already asked and i missed it, but did you make the actual foam beams or did you purchase from another company? Thanks in advance great video

Nice video, thoroughly explains the install, but I cannot see how that beam wouldn't fit other than you just needed to cut a little more off the end. Looks to me like you had plenty of clearance between the 2X6 and the top of the molding you were just to tight. I could see if you couldn't get under the 2X6, but you obviously could. The only problem I could see was that the walls were either way out of plumb, or bowed in and out, but I seriously doubt they would be out that bad. I know I'm not a pro like you but having installed several of these, it's clear to me you just cut another 1/8th off the end and slide it right in.
I visited my 91 year old mom on Saturday. I showed her one of your videos and she kept saying "let's watch another one."
Awesome, its great to find things that they enjoy !
my moms 85 and likes him too
Great job guys! I'm putting one up on a cathedral ceiling tomorrow!
I hope she's doing well.
Instead of using those drywall anchors, go in the attic and add blocking. You can get a lot more solid looking beams this way
your camera angles, music and editing are really getting professional! Thank you for what you do!
Keep up the great work brother! Awesome vids keep them coming!!!! 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
What brand are the faux beams?
Damn dude that drone shot. Getting fancy! Well done.
Enjoy the jobsite videos. Keep it going.

Good job.
I love the Japanese hand saw. Your video is top notch. Appreciate your insight.
Passed Japanese carpenters are rolling in their graves watching that saw cut foam!
@@FinishCarpentryTV 🍉
Samuel Orozco where did you get the foam?
Finish Carpentry TV where did you get the foam
i somehow always end up watching your vids while working on estimates... kinda my routine
coincidence???? Same here, measure a roof, come back to the office and watch this crazy guy
Hey, Love work you, can you tell us a little more about the cost of and were to get the faux wood beams.
Thanks
Dude the editing and production is pretty good. I liked the music when the truck was driving. Question how did you get those 2 shot of the truck from so far away. Drone or bridge or....
I definitely enjoy these types of video.👍 Nice use for the Japanese sawL . 👢
Hey Richard, Ive noticed in a few of your video that you use a Bosch digital tape measure, How do you like it, and how accurate has it been?
Joe Powell I thought he used a dewalt laser tape measure?
Erik Sette In the past he may have, but in this video and in several others, he's used a Bosch digital tape measure.
Joe Powell I was gonna ask him the same thing. Been looking at the same laser he has and was wondering how it works. He seems to like it

great job! If you ever do a vaulted ceiling crown moulding job, please shoot it for us. Keep 'em coming, we learn from each one.
Thanks
bahahaha seems like its taking a long time, because its taking a long time
Who's the manufacturer?

DeWalt makes a great little collapsible stand for that saw, cheap to,hated working on the ground.

What would you do on a concrete reinforced ceiling by metal beams?
Watching this in 2020. Slowly but surely working through your videos. Love them!
Enjoying your vids. You should consider adding the dewalt belt clips to your drill, impact, multitool ect. It makes climbing a ladder with materials and tools a lot easier.
Your videos are very good and informative I like it keep it up. 🖒
Why do you need such a big board to attach the beam too? Is it just to have more surface to nail the beam too?
Steve Niemyer I was thinking the same thing.. Im thinking drywall strips would've work? They're like $1 a piece.
Simon bleed no they wouldn’t hold, you need something to screw to

@@simonbleed2029 lol try it
Can you get 5/4x6s at Home Depot? That's where he got the material.
For a guy who's pretty conscientious about his work I honestly have no clue how you could find any decent wood at home Depot 😲
dude, go get the sprinter van. you'll love it.
I watched your "Don't buy materials from lowes or home depot" video. lol
also, using drywall hangers to mount these? yikes...
Installed a few beams when I spent time in canada, the pocks are handy to prop the beams up into position while you screw/pin them and also you can get a look at it from ground level before fixing them.
What's with the ultra formal window trim with fake rustic beams? Seems like a little bit of a contradiction.
don't post a video like this without showing the complete project. ...boooooo

Thanks for the video. All the little tips and tricks are great!
Great stuff once again! Get some ear protection though for when your using your saws or you'll end up with tinnitus!
May I know what type of lumber did you use, the mock seemed light in weight
Your manual saw is good, what do you call it and what's the brand?
What's the size of your beam, width and height
you are amazing ..
When you bought the beams you could have bought the proper noggins to fix them and saved yourself all the work cutting and fixing planks.

Your doing a great job Richard, thanks for sharing your skill set with us brilliant video as usual 👍
That montage of you guys fighting the beam is a microcosm of our trades...
Great stuff! What’s the type/name of the saw you’re using to trim the faux beams?
Thanks for showing that projects don't always go as planned, even for professionals, and how to recover. Really enjoy the videos you make and am learning a lot that helps in my DYI projects around the house. Thanks!
Where did you get the beams from?
Did you also make the beans ?
Did you build the actual beams or purchase them pre-made? Did you cut the 45 degree angles on the insides?
great vid as always. it seems the only non faux item in this house is the timber you've mounted. LOL.
That's a little too much weight on the drywall... over time it's going to cause the butt joints and seams to Crack as well as cause the sheets to sag
Very nice! Can you say what brand beams you bought? And the gel stain takes into the foam ok huh?
I’d have really liked to see the curved beam install. Nice job though.
I can't imagine the beams are going to be completely flush with the texture of the wall. Do add some sort of filler at the end or is it not as noticeable as I made it out to be? Thanks for the great vid as well!
Erik Z if you make your cut exact, the foam will contour to the texture when you force it up
Colored caulk.
Great video as always!! Could you do one explaining when you should use caulk vs wood filler vs putty? It's something I would be really interested in.
BTW, have you ever tried using Snaptoggles instead of toggle bolts? I love these anchors. A bit pricey but they work great.
Alexandre Poitras never use caulking to fill screw holes. It will shrink, and you will end up with a divet
how is your headache rack attached to your truck so you can still open your bed cover with out it getting in the way?
Great video-very informative. Keep up the good work!
Found your channel today and am now addicted. Great work! Very interesting!
That happened to me too. I must have watched half a night one time 😂
Shouldn’t you have stained it before installing it?
What type of wood is used here? What was the depth and width of the beam? Thanks

Thank you for the great videos and proving even pro"s make mistakes. Will be doing foam beams in our renovation so this one and your next helps!
Does lowes order these for you? The wood channels that you are sawing.
I looked into those faux beams before I started my project and those foam ones aint cheap at all, had to go with 3/4" plywood
With the plywood I get around here I'd be concerned about being able to keep a crisp Edge of a 45 on my plywood I would almost have to buy cabinet grade before I think the edge would stay halfway decent, did that work out for you? Why didn't you raise it beside the window, then walk it over?
I was thinking the same. They kept struggling with it on an angle. Could of held it level at the end wall, get it higher than the window height and moved it over to the board on the ceiling.
that jell stain is garbage that is a terrible way todo the wood effect
I like this kind of video! Keep going!!
RUclips use to be a good when resource links were posted!
I dont mean to be rude but I hate seeing people waste time=$$$$

Where can you buy a faux wood beam ? Its also a mount.
