In this video:
It was a wet, cold, wind overcast day on March 4, 1841. This didn’t matter to the thousands that had come out to the nation’s capital to see the president-elect William Henry Harrison be sworn into office as the 9th President of the United States. With people lining the streets all the way to the Capitol, it was described by John Quincy Adams as the largest crowd the city had ever seen and, by a historian later, as the most raucous celebration since George Washington’s 1789 inauguration. Despite his boring style and advanced age, Harrison’s military acumen while battling Indians in order to open western settlements earlier in the century had made “Old Tippecanoe” a populist candidate very much in line with the Andrew Jackson.

I wrote a term paper on this guy in college. Verbose doesn't begin to cover it... the fact that you made him interesting is a testament to your talent.

Historical burn.
Trump could try, but he can never match that.

I had to do a report on William Henry Harrison... but only on his presidency in elementary school. Oh my god it was hard. 🤦🏼♀️ who knew doing a report on a president that only served for a month would be difficult?
Very interesting. I had heard this presidency was short due to the inaugural events. The truth about contaminated water is disturbing.
I'm just glad I wasn't alive then. The water situation was worse in London, if you can believe that.

Happy to hear this ! I was told young that I am a decendant of the Harrisons from my grand mother side. Well, I know more now then they ever told me :) just need to verify facts now !
His Accidency, lol.
Better add this video to the Harrison museum in the great Pawnee, Indiana
Fun fact: Fort Wayne, IN is named after "Mad" Anthony Wayne.
So is Waynesboro, Ga., south of where I live.
Quite interesting. Thank you for this insightful article...
Damn, just that one sentence from the speech was enough to knock me out.
Karma got him when he had finally had attained the highest position in the US. lol

Thank you, Ms. Knope for that thrilling presentation
"His Successionist"....that is priceless!!!!
And now for a bonus fact.
John Tyler (William Henry Harrisons predecessor) has 2 grandsons still alive to this day.

He had the longest inauguration speech and the shortest term as president. That's the real irony.
I wonder how bored and very cold those listeners were during his 2-hour speech.

Do they still use leaches in medical work? How did the practice start and why do we still use them? We're there other uses for leaches?
India still use them and I'm pretty sure he's already done this topic.
@@KenMabie They thought if you were bleeding it meant you had to much blood and your body was trying to get rid of it.
I'm fairly certain it goes all the way back to Hippocrates in Ancient Greece. According to him, the body was made up of four humors - blood, phlegm, black bile, and yellow bile. The humors needed to stay in balance for you to stay healthy. Therefore, all sickness was caused by having too much or to little of one of the humors. People in medieval Europe revered all old knowledge because they viewed the Roman Empire as the pinnacle of human civilization, so they took this incorrect knowledge as gospel. Bloodletting became a popular form of treatment for a wide variety of illnesses to help the body stay in balance. This, of course, led to a great many preventable deaths, as the last thing a sick person needs is to be bled. I'm not sure why some people still use this. Perhaps 2000 years of medical "knowledge" is really hard to let go of, or perhaps it actually can help in certain circumstances. Perhaps it's a combination.
Please note, this is all from my memories of a history class I took in college, so certain aspects of this post may be somewhat inaccurate. I'm by no means an expert on medieval medicine.
The Torah equates blood with the soul כי דם הוא הנפש, I wonder if that has to do with it?
This guy's always fascinated me, along with his running mate Tyler. The Whig presidential campaign of 1844 was the first recognizably modern campaign, except that candidates & nominees didn't do any campaigning of their own. That came along much later. Wish it would return to that! Harrison apparently wasn't that nice of a guy---in reality, an ambitious soldier with a taste for the aristocratic things in life, duplicitous in his dealings with the Native Americans. I believe he's considered by historians as the first "dark horse" presidential candidate in U.S. History. I heard or read that somewhere once but may be wrong. Far from a man of the people, Harrison, in terms of establishing certain features of "modern" presidential campaigns did, at least, "get the ball rolling"!
You should do a Biographics video on him

When someone takes a poop for a while , in the us we ask "did you fall in".... has anyone ever fallen into a modern toilet and got stuck? What about the Asian style toilets that are just a hole in the ground? What about outhouses that could be a hole 5 or 6ft (2m) in the ground. Just picture someone in a hole 9ft(3m) in the ground looking up at the toilet seat.
I know of at least one case where somebody got stuck in a toilet. Fire fighters had to remove the entire toilet and bring it to the ER where they cut it off of her. She was old, so they were afraid pulling or breaking it off would break her hip.
Most raucous? How did they beat Andrew Jackson’s crowd?

@@franciscodanconia45 you replied that to a Canadian....
@@franciscodanconia45 and your point is? Should i bow down to him for that fact? Nope because this is america.
@@franciscodanconia45 , he may be the President of the United States, but that doesn't entitle him to my respect automatically. He constantly shows disrespect for the very office he occupies and conducts himself in a very non-Presidential way. So, what I am saying is that I respect the office, but not the man in it.
Two hour long inauguration speech? Bad move ! Even in nice weather, this is far too long! Long speech, short presidency!
Hugo Chavez from Venezuela could speak for several hours , I think 8 in front of the congress was his record
Oration was a positive back in the days before sound bites, three and a half minute long pop songs (the length of time which could be put on one side of a 45rpm record) and a short attention span.
It was even more impressive when it was given without notes

Harrison sounds like a real dick. We've had enough of those as president, including the current office holder, (although based on Harrison's inaugural speech he could read and write, which puts him ahead in that area) so it sounds to me like his early demise was probably fortuitous.

Why Trump just drinks Diet Coke, and has a comb over/forward,instead of a Whig.
The knly two whig presidents die ten years apart, from the same symptoms and the same duration of time. If synchronicity is coincidences that have meaning, this isit.
My city is named after Mad Anthony Wayne! Fort Wayne for the win!
WHH was my great-great-great grandfather. He never owned any slaves although his father was one of the largest slaveholders in colonial America. His brothers owned slaves but it doesn't look as if WHH owned any. A historian in Vincennes said there is speculation that WHH might (big might) have borrowed a slave from his brother to help build the governor's mansion in Vincennes. WHH was even a member of the Abolitionist movement as a young man, much to the ire of his father. George Washington was his godfather and signed his commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. Since he was the youngest son, he did not inherit any wealth. There wasn't much wealth left after the revolution since the British targeted the family plantation during the conflict. The plantation went bust and was sold to the footman. However, the family owned/claimed lots of land in Ohio and Indiana after the French and Indian War since they were a major investor in George Washington's ventures in that area as a land surveyor. This family land in Ohio and Indiana probably was the impetus of his desire to be assigned to the NorthWest territory as an Army officer. There has been speculation as to whether WHH would have made any progress in the issue of freeing the slaves. Since he died within a month of taking office, we will never know. During the Civil War, the descendants of WHH fought for the North, the most notable being Benjamin Harrison who became a Breveted General and also became a US President. The side of the family who stayed in Virginia fought for the Confederacy. There has never been any contact between the families since.
Any way that people can discredit US history, a little lie or two helps in this regard.
It was karma....
This video was longer than his presidency.
It seems the victim didn’t die of temperature.
