So I actually discovered this feature a couple weeks ago when I was building a fish pond in my world. Most of it was 1 layer deep, but a couple areas were 2 or 3 layers deep and the fish would always go to them. Very nice usage of this feature!
Never realized this could be farmed. I like building big shallow pools or fountains for my builds. I knew fish would occasionally spawn and get stuck breakdancing on the sea lanterns because I guess they see them as transparent/non-solid blocks.

This took me 2 days to build lol one to prep everything and then another building. I even went 1k blocks away in the nether to get to the mangrove biome but it was definitely worth it. you get so much bonemeal it’s insane. I’m glad I built the full version and made auto crafters. you have to make a filter then an auto crafter hooked up to a red stone clock for the bones to turn into bonemeal. then a different auto crafter setup to turn the bonemeal into blocks. You have to do that for each one unless you connect each killer to one filter and 2 auto crafter set ups. I just made it at each one but I probably could’ve just connected it to one filter and crafter using hoppers lol but oh well I’m done and it’s pretty good so I’m happy it was worth it😂

You could make a whole separate video on a bone block crafter based collection system for this farm. I had to try a few iterations before i had something with acceptable levels of loss. It requires 2 item sorting modules to collect all the bones, one reducer that spits bonemeal into a water stream and 3 compacters to account for the rate of bonemeal coming out of the reducer on a clock (your reducer only works on realms with max speed repeater). I get 32 bone block stacks an hour with this model. Oh! And you have to hopper down 5 blocks from the water sources and water stream items 16 blocks horizontally away from the farm to retain the fish pathing. This puts your collection system far enough away from one trident killer that it becomes necessary to turn the farm on/off to go to the collection system and back without disabling that trident killer. At least on realms. If you think bugrock has problems, realms multiplies them
I just have a single item sorting module to select the bones. It works as follows. Each of the 5 trident killers have the hopper connected to a dropper. The dropper is auto-triggered, dropping whatever inside into water streams to send them to a storage area. An item sorter is them built there. It is just barely fast enough to sort the bones and tropical fishes. Then the bones is converted to bone blocks by two consecutive crafters. Do not use repeaters there, they make the crafter too slow for converting the bones to bonemeal. Just use 9 redstone dust to connect a comparator reading the crafter back to a solid block around the crafter, so that the crafter does its job faster than the bones are sent by the item sorter. It doesn't matter that the two circuits for the two crafters touch each other: only the intended crafter will get sufficient power and is triggered.
I just sent all items to an item sorter where via observe clocks burn fish and craft bonemeal then send bonemeal via water stream to six hoppers feeding a chest boat that feeds a three ingredient crafter crafting bone blocks that feeds a shulker loader... Phew, what a mouthful 😅
You could just put a glass pane where the first hopper is and eliminate all hoppers and droppers. Also doing this you can direct water stream after items been dropped to just above your afk to bring you the xp it does give off a decent amount of xp not as much as a guardian farm but still a lot. I also put a trading/iron farm right next to it put 30 barrels fisherman trade for tropical fish . It's close enough for iron farm to run and for trades to reset. Have this set up in realm and just built it again on my personal world today
This was a good solution to help reduce lag on my realm but occasionally fish will glitch through the glass pain and hang around in a water stream.. probably not great for rates but a fair tradeoff if you're on a realm Just realized that a magma block would probably fix loose fish
@darin3k i noticed a few loose fish but it was a block missing next to the pane so it didnt look like a plus sign. I will add your solution and add a few magna block at beginning of each water stream Thank you. Also if you don't want xp skulk catalyst can be added after streams come together our at end of item collection ran into lava. i seen some people having issues with this getting out of control when built in lush cave.
I'm building this in a lush cave. I name-taged some medium slimes, broke them into babies and captured them in boats. They float serenely on the water AND stop all my cave spawns!
Made this with the output hooked up a sorter + compactor (2x crafters) for bones and trash can (dropper + lava cauldron) for all the fish. Now it’s pumping out bone blocks like nobody’s business 👍 (A fisherman village could be set up for selling all the fish but this is too much work to be worth the trouble imo)
Thanks for the guide works amazingly. I decided to build in a lush cave. I ended up using hopper minecarts and magma blocks for my collection system as the skulk catalists kept destroying all my blocks. This gave me a much cleaner collection system with no xp and no redstone so no risk of anything breaking.
Magma killing all the fish? The sculk vein can be eliminated by filling the cave animal cap with 4 axolotl that you have placed in buckets. If you build a little pen at your afk for them, no glow squid will spawn. If you're happy with the rates sounds like a win though.
I ended up having another player on our SMP throw the tridents in so that I didn’t have to deal with xp and sculk everywhere. Worked great! I put my red stone up high so water didnt mess with it
Built the farm, it’s amazing, not sure why I’m getting 3k a bonemeal a hour compared to 22k a hour tho, farm is built the exact same as video except the mud floor is stone bricks, but nonetheless more bonemeal than I’ll ever be able to use so I’m happy, great video as always!
@@oldrusty8157 its more than enough for me, nothing should be broken I’ve cleared all nearby water, they are pathfinding correctly just not spawning fast enough to get his rates, but I afked it when sleeping and got an double chest, so I’ll be fine, thanks for the offer tho!
@kj29awsome you might have some other areas within spawning range eating up your cap. It's hilarious that you're getting 1/7 the rates and it's still enough. I love this mechanic. Glad you're good
I think this farm and farms like it would benefit from including storage within the tutorial. I am totally good with following tutorials, but I am not big on understanding how to adapt concepts to them. So, I know how you have shown storage in the past, but I wouldn't know how to connect it all so it would work with this farm in particular. Just something for future farms you make. Like, I built your creeper farm recently, and even just including the basic storage system you did really helped me be able to collect enough gunpowder without needing to add anything else.
Two issues I’ve had, any advice? Overnighted farm and sculk took over everything it looks like an ancient city. I raised walls and am considering a glass covering to prevent mobs from getting into farm.
Glass covering will work. Nothing will spawn inside it but the fish. You could also use leaves, and to help a little more get four frogs in 2 boats besides your fsrm. Wave a slimeball at them so they won't despawn.
@@BasedLars glow squid cap is 4. They share it with axolotl in a lush cave. Capture four axolotl in buckets. Put them in a one deep water at your afk. Block them in so they can't escape. No more flow squid
pretty good question here, as long as chunkbase says im in a lush cave biome will it work if i dig out alot of stone or does most of the cave have to be open
@@Anthony_Gogglins No, but seriosly: You can only build this farm in Lush caves and mangroove swapms since those are the only places that spawn tropical fishes. (Warm Oceans don't work for a number of reasons)
Can i build this farm, and then send all the bones drops to an autocrafter to do bonemeal, and then send all the bonemeal to a bonemeal bamboo farm? (Btw, how many bamboo farm can i stack? Seeing the drops it should be 5 but im not sure)
I actually love the moss farm because I can just turn it on and do something else at my base. But this new farm is stupidly cost efficient and I am interested.
Do the fish count against the cap for iron golems? I'm guessing no but still I figured I would ask before I put it in an area where the golems will be spawning.
Tanks. Thought that was strange, getting fish in the water at my swamp base, I'll be making one of these, I use my fish farm mostly for bone anyway. I also have a lush cave underneath the base so perfect.
@that70sgamer what I did was I just bordered my area about the lush cave and started clearing layer by layer. You can tell when you are in the lush cave biome, cause the water colors between mangrove and lush is obvious. The easiest thing to do is just clear the 40x40 all the way down to lush cave and then build ip. Build the first platforms. Then build rhe mangrove 24 blocks above. I used glass on the entire afk level for room to afk and watch the fishes.
@@oldrusty8157 that sounds awesome. I haven't checked yet, but I think the distance is just right to put an AFK spot below the surface fish farm and above the cave fish farm. I wonder if axolotls will spawn into the farm. Would be interesting to try to lure them over to somewhere else and trap them. I'd have to look it up , I don't think axolotls actually go after anything besides fish.
Built in a lush cave, but the Skulk catalysts completely overwhelmed the farm with Skulk blocks & sensors (even up into the water). Is there a way to have them eat XP without generating Skulk? Other than that, rates are great!
Let me guess glow squid dying is causing sculk spread? I have a solution. Bring 4 passive animals that you have bred. Or just capture 4 axolotl in buckets and place them down in a pin near your farm. That takes care of the glow squid. Passive mob cap is 4. Has to be bred animals or axolotl that spawned though. The bucket makes them not desoawb
Can be build up tp y=64, and the fish pathfind is 5 blocks vertical, then why dont just build the platform at like, y=50 so we dont need to clear the swamp area?
Tip for this farm: Don't afk too long I finished this farm at 6am, and slept until 11am (so I afked for 5 hours) and what I got was 10 chests of boneblocks which is "54 shulker boxes" full of bonemeal I think I won't need bonemeal for the rest of my entire life It's just so many
Does it HAVE to be a Mangrove, or can it be the other type of Swamp as well? Also, you mentioned it can be built in Lush Cave Biomes - do we still need to remove all the solid blocks above it, since fish sometimes spawn deep in the covered caves naturally?
Fish only spawn in mangrove swamps. They don't spawn in regular swamp. For the lush cave, there has to be a roof. If it's exposed to the sky the fish won't spawn. That's why you can overlap tye biomes and get double rates.
This is truly cheap bonemeal! Each bonemeal can be easily converted to two emeralds because you can put them to a flower farm and get 12 flowers out of them, and a cured villager will buy 6 dyes made with it for one emerald. If even this is not enough, kill a raid first and so that they buy at double the price (get 4 emeralds for each bonemeal)!
watch mojang make it in parity with Java so fish drop bone meal instead of bones :c either way, peak farm, ain't never needing more bone meal I'll probably never use lol
Please make a large self refueling super smelter ( with fuel farm built in / using auto crafters to refill itself or something ) I need something epic and compact lol
I made one. Main issue is that furnaces/cookers aren't fats enough for the rate items are coming into the system so it gets full after a while. Working on a new design
Could you also afk below the farm just as in ease of access to storage? Update: I used the water drainer flying machine cause the closest mangrove or lush cave is over 4000 blocks away and I made the machine clear a 100x100x12 area and it works perfectly and use the raw cod I get to trade with villagers too
Make sure you dont build this farm out of blocks that the sculk catalyst can turn into sculk, made mine out of stone, fortunately once the water is in and the fish are killed the catalysts dont seem to turn the stone
No. Fish spawn between y 0 and 64 in any oceans, or mangrove swamp. You'll have to drain a significant portion of the water for this design to work. A 72x5x72 area with the farm centered in the middle.
@oldrusty8157 why stack them with mangrove. The spawn raits are higher in the cave. It's not a new feature I mean Joe hills on hermitcraft built one on accident in I believe season 8.
@SpyderKing34 mangrove and lush cave fish are two separate mob caps. It doubles the rates to 44k. With just a lush cave, you're looking at 22k. Maybe 28k if you do two platforms of lush cave. The surface cap and cave cap is the most bang for your buck.
@oldrusty8157 the only difference I have found is that 1 spawns frogs and the other doesn't. As for the rest, I've already said it. It's not a new thing it's been around since lush caves were put in the game.
@SpyderKing34 I know this mechanic has been around in the game for a while. The difference between mangrove and lush caves is that mangrove swamps are surface spawn fish. Lush caves are cave spawn fish. They have two different density caps. The limit on fish is 36 for surface and 36 for cave. In a lush cave, you can never have more than 36 fish at a time no matter how many platforms. By layering them in the right place, you get a cap of 36 in a mangrove and another 36 in the lush cave for a total of 72 fish maximum.
Just finished this a few hours ago and already have a shulker of bone block. I would suggest saving the mangrove wood for chests because you are going to need them
@@oldrusty8157 my water line will be at least 5 blocks below the water on farm level, but i don't think I will need to have more than 1 block deep of flowing water
No it’s not, mine is also next to Savanna and it’s working very well, got 18 stacks of bone blocks in 10 mins, so the problem must be another. Check the Y level of your farm, maybe that’s why fishes don’t spawn, it has to be lower that 64 I believe
Is it still efficient if you just leave it run in the background (obviously in loaded chunks), while you’re doing other things, not holding a looting three sword, or standing in the afk spot? It shouldn’t matter anyway because the insane rates of this farm mean I can probably just afk here for an hour and have more bonemeal than I’ll ever need for anything
If I put water streams for item collection under this, would it mess up the fish mechanics of the farm? I really don’t wanna make a bunch of slow hoppers if I don’t have to
I made this farm in lush caves since i couldn't find mangrove swamp and i built it underground and now glow squid spawns there i was thinking i should farm both glow squid and these fishes but idk how that works since they are not going to the kill chamber
Im having issues with fish being pushed up out of the kill chambers. | Is this the issue v (Changed the trident killer a bit. Got a piston, observer, hopper on the same level. Catalyst and hopper in the floor. Did that cause i used redstone lamps to light the farm and the levers needed to be somewhere, which ended up locking the hoppers)
Im still having this issue, it's like the fish are either just floating around in the trident killer while the trident does zero damage to any of them. They instantly spawn, reach the mob cap, and then nothing happens. The tridents don't hurt them.
Out of curiosity, why don't sea lanterns work? Totally not annoyed at all, it's not like I build a certain guardian farm and now have more sea lanterns than I know what to do with or anything :)
Hi Wattles, always appreciate your content! I've also recently been watching some of Prowl's videos and he generally uses powered rails instead of droppers. Do you have a reason for the dispensers, or know of any differences between each of your choices?
6:18 Dont use sea lanters OR glowstone, since those blocks break fish pathfinding and your farm wont really work

I ended up having another player on our SMP throw the tridents in so that I didn’t have to deal with xp and sculk everywhere. Worked great! I put my red stone up high so water didnt mess with it
This is awesome! Please never stop innovating or spreading innovations of others!
This is going to be huge for all of the projects I’m working on in my survival world right now ❤
Build the double version
Thanks. So much bone meal I don't think I will ever use them all. Will auto burn tropical fish. Raid already gives enough emeralds.
Great farm. Great video. Congratulations Silent and way to go Rusty
It should be making way more. Unless your getting 3000 bones. Then that's a better rate, but if you're good with the amount awesome.
@@oldrusty8157 1k bones, 3k bonemeal, not sure why everything’s exact same
@@kj29awsome need help fixing it?
Another one! You da best 🙌
I’m having the same issue. I think it’s from glow squid spawning and dying. I don’t understand!
@@heatherkane7279 I think that’s why he mentioned specific biome
@@BasedLars glow squid cap is 4. They share it with axolotl in a lush cave. Capture four axolotl in buckets. Put them in a one deep water at your afk. Block them in so they can't escape. No more flow squid

pretty good question here, as long as chunkbase says im in a lush cave biome will it work if i dig out alot of stone or does most of the cave have to be open

I actually love the moss farm because I can just turn it on and do something else at my base. But this new farm is stupidly cost efficient and I am interested.
You don't say, way to bee amazing! Nice farm!!
Do the fish count against the cap for iron golems? I'm guessing no but still I figured I would ask before I put it in an area where the golems will be spawning.
no.
Had to build a pumpkin farm to build this farm
yay for OldRusty
Bro why you need a FISH?!? instead of Skeletons
Peaceful Technical players: I need it
Because fish is 23.4 times better lol👌
No skeleton is dropping 6 bones
Tanks.
Thought that was strange, getting fish in the water at my swamp base, I'll be making one of these, I use my fish farm mostly for bone anyway.
I also have a lush cave underneath the base so perfect.
Are both biomes vertical from each other?
@@oldrusty8157Yes, I actually just found the lush cave last night. Was going down to get some stone.
@that70sgamer that's why he said to put the platforms 24 blocks apart. Your exactly 12 from both. And the entire platform fits in the spawn sphere
Definitely building this 👍
Built in a lush cave, but the Skulk catalysts completely overwhelmed the farm with Skulk blocks & sensors (even up into the water).
Just put glass around the catalysts so it has nothing to spread too.
Can be build up tp y=64, and the fish pathfind is 5 blocks vertical, then why dont just build the platform at like, y=50 so we dont need to clear the swamp area?
You can.
@@oldrusty8157 LoL i forgot that surface and sea level are y=62

This is insane !
Tip for this farm: Don't afk too long
I finished this farm at 6am, and slept until 11am (so I afked for 5 hours) and what I got was 10 chests of boneblocks which is "54 shulker boxes" full of bonemeal
I think I won't need bonemeal for the rest of my entire life
It's just so many
I have gotten 30 shulker boxes of bone blocks so far, pretty sure i will never use it all😂

omg… Silent I literally finished traveling several thousand blocks to find the nearest moss block to build the moss farm two hours ago 😂😂 😭
I did that and then the next trader i saw had it 😅
8:10 Missed a light.
Why is there one light emitting block missing :/
I already have a biggest and more efficient fish farm
So now i built the moss bonemeal farm,ur design is too good😅
Does it HAVE to be a Mangrove, or can it be the other type of Swamp as well?
Also, you mentioned it can be built in Lush Cave Biomes - do we still need to remove all the solid blocks above it, since fish sometimes spawn deep in the covered caves naturally?
Fish only spawn in mangrove swamps. They don't spawn in regular swamp.
For the lush cave, there has to be a roof. If it's exposed to the sky the fish won't spawn.
That's why you can overlap tye biomes and get double rates.
@@oldrusty8157 Thank you for that clarification.
that one missing light tho :(
LESS GOOO TYSM
This is truly cheap bonemeal! Each bonemeal can be easily converted to two emeralds because you can put them to a flower farm and get 12 flowers out of them, and a cured villager will buy 6 dyes made with it for one emerald. If even this is not enough, kill a raid first and so that they buy at double the price (get 4 emeralds for each bonemeal)!
watch mojang make it in parity with Java so fish drop bone meal instead of bones :c
either way, peak farm, ain't never needing more bone meal I'll probably never use lol
Please make a large self refueling super smelter ( with fuel farm built in / using auto crafters to refill itself or something )

I made one. Main issue is that furnaces/cookers aren't fats enough for the rate items are coming into the system so it gets full after a while. Working on a new design
I'm going to steal your fish joke 🤣 thanks❤
how many blocks away can tropical fish detect a block of water? some fish are staying in place, they are not going to the slaughterhouse
16 horizontal, 5 vertical
Could you also afk below the farm just as in ease of access to storage?
Update: I used the water drainer flying machine cause the closest mangrove or lush cave is over 4000 blocks away and I made the machine clear a 100x100x12 area and it works perfectly and use the raw cod I get to trade with villagers too

Make sure you dont build this farm out of blocks that the sculk catalyst can turn into sculk, made mine out of stone, fortunately once the water is in and the fish are killed the catalysts dont seem to turn the stone
I was literally just started building a bonemeal farm
i swear i just built 4 of the massive moss farms and then this comes out
Would building this in the air above a warm ocean work?
No. Fish spawn between y 0 and 64 in any oceans, or mangrove swamp. You'll have to drain a significant portion of the water for this design to work. A 72x5x72 area with the farm centered in the middle.
This is my go to farm for bone meal. I've always built them in lush caves tho they work alot better.
Stack them with mangrove

I can not get any fish to spawn. Any ideas? Built out of planks in mangrove biome but next go acacia biome, is that the problem??
No. Looting 3 increases bone drops by 6x. Also fish have a very limited spawn range and deapawn after 40 blocks.
@@oldrusty8157 okay thanks
If I put water streams for item collection under this, would it mess up the fish mechanics of the farm? I really don’t wanna make a bunch of slow hoppers if I don’t have to
Aa long as the water stream are only 1 block deep it will be fine. No waterfalla or bubble elevators. Those will count as 2 deep and mess it up.
I used water streams I just put them more than 5 blocks below the spawning platform because the fish only pathfind 5 blocks vertically
Can't imagine how painful eating fish is with all those bones...

I made this farm in lush caves since i couldn't find mangrove swamp and i built it underground and now glow squid spawns there i was thinking i should farm both glow squid and these fishes but idk how that works since they are not going to the kill chamber
You could use an allay if you really want the glow ink. I just used mob suppression to keep the glow squid from spawning in my farm
Im having issues with fish being pushed up out of the kill chambers.
|
Is this the issue v
(Changed the trident killer a bit.
2:53 I have no hope of ever path finding myself to a goth girl, yet i still try. I understand the fish! they and I are not so different.
Out of curiosity, why don't sea lanterns work? Totally not annoyed at all, it's not like I build a certain guardian farm and now have more sea lanterns than I know what to do with or anything :)
it breaks their pathfinding:)
