As always, I started watching this with my 7 year old twins, but had to leave them to it and get dinner on the grill. My son gave me a play-by-play, "Papa, Jimmy's putting it in the oven!" My daughter gasped when the oil went on the wood, "It's SOOOOOOO pretty!" Now my son wants one just like it, but made by Jimmy. Heck, I chopped down a tree earlier today, and when I whacked the axe into the stump for a minute, they both said, "Hey, you did that just like Jimmy!" Crazy cool stuff, glad we can all check it out. Thanks.
Stunning, stunning work. Took my breath away when you put the finish on that sheath, beautiful.
Nice!
As a self-professed "expert" and knife nerd, I hereby testify you did a fine job, especially with such a complex shape on A2! Your knowledge of materials, broad experience and artistic ability obviously help. It's a beautiful design worthy of any magic ritual or human sacrifice.
Now, go to Wall street, find a banker and... ;-)
Hahahah thank you for that I feel a little better in this deep pool!!
+Learner-Learns dude some times you need to just shut up why the hell would you say that
Yeah, man, why would you say anything about a "human sacrifice" and not say anything about virgins!?!!
Very nice !!!
+Learner-Learns a human sacrifice a day keeps the satan away
Very cool indeed, although I did have to mute it during the angle grinding phase because the sound reminded me of my last trip to the dentist!Good job man, consider me inspired to make a knife like this!Greetings from Germany!
A couple helpful tips: Score the edge. Clean up the edges of the stock before creating the main grind, and set up a carbide bit of some sort to be half the thickness of the stock above your table. Move the stock along it to score a centerline, and flip it over and repeat incase it's a little off. Then you have a centerline to grind to. I've never done a Kris blade like that, but personally I would have used a slackbelt, especially since you have a nice Beaumont grinder to take advantage of. Edge facing up so you can carefully grind to the centerline, and maintain a consistent angle to get the blade's geometry nice and pretty.
+Masononi Just some tips to make it a little easier. You did an amazing job with the methods you used.
I mean, I don't know anything about metal, but I think mister DiResta here knows what he's doing. There is a reason for everything he does. Maybe it's some cosmic force, or maybe he is the cosmic force. Go figure.
+Lauri Lehto The cult mentality is showing.
@@laurivlehto96 Every true and skilled maker is always welcome to new ideas and hints on better building.
The amount of care and detail you put into your work is inspiring
So excited for this one! It just got started, but have a like anyhow....

+Chris LaPorta Nothing much, how you doin'
+Chris LaPorta Whats up? Why the sky of course
Hey Peter, ever thought about making a knife for your channel? I know you'd come up with something creative.
+Peter Brown thank you brother!!
Linseed oil is probably my favorite finish. I love the way it looks on anything.
Nice blade! Isn't the handle a bit uncomfortable?
+justinbieberfan 0000 This is not the kind of blade you will be swinging all day long, it's for poking someone with and then putting straight back in the sheath, also the less it looks like a knife the better ; )
+John Smith aye but with a stabbing weapon its preferable to have a contoured handle as stabbing can cause you hand to slide down the handle and onto the blade if there is little resistance
actually the holder is not like that.. :)
+justinbieberfan 0000 i think it's just more of an artistic decision - most knife blades have straight lines and curvy handles, this one is the opposite with a curvy blade and a straight handle
Ben like i said earlier.. The handle doesnt look like that.. It supposed to look like 'T'
I'm southeast asian, feels really proud to see your work on keris look aliked blade. It's so amazing it would be the stealthiest blade because no one will expecting the blade inside the wood stick. sorry for the bad english.
Did I see that right, you got a new table saw (saw stop)?
Good eye. I didn't notice at first.
Good eye. I didn't notice at first.
+eformance Yeah i noticed it too. Interesting choice, given that earlier he explained that he wasn't planning on buying one.
Did you have a near-accident, +jimmydiresta? Or is it a sponsor (because the logo is so clearly visible)
+eformance He was at the shop in his back garden, not the NYC shop, this is why he is using a different table saw.
+Lukas don He did, he talked about it a few videos back, really did a number on his pinky finger.
I love how he free handed that center line like that.
This is just super cool mate :) !
I'm not sure how many people will understand just how impressive it is that you got that initial edge profile with a 9" grinder and a carbide bit in a die grinder. That's some pretty solid tool control there, Jimmy. Nice work!
He has more clamps than I have friends
Jack Skellington so he has 1?
Jack Skellington ha ha
Super cool blade. Had to be such a chore to put an edge on all those curves... I love that in the sheath, it pretty much appears to be a block of wood with a hint of brass.

Great job Jimmy. I've been making knives for a few years now and wouldn't dream of tackling this design.
so much work... for just one blade
So much work. So much learning. For me ..

awesome ..
the traditional blade from my country, Indonesia.
thanks for making this weapon.
I appreciate it .
just a question why does every tool have DiResta on it
Cause he doesn't want to give free advertising to the company that makes said tool. Cause there are other company's that he is sponsored by so it would be unfair for the company's that pay him.
That is my name. If you ever have been bootlegged by Liveleak or break you would understand. Ever Frame has my brand and it can't be removed. End. period. Branding stays with the product.
That makes tons of sense thank you for clarifying. i enjoy watching your videos keep up the good work
I know nothing about knives, but the finish on the sheath/handle with the inlaid brass is fantastic. Nice job as always Jimmy!
Indonesia Blade
in Malaysia, Keris is considered the hardest combat weapon to make, even for veterans here since its a passed-on type skills by previous generations. Definitely a thumbs up to you for making this. A good test of skills indeed 👍
My our traditional weapon, From Indonesia Jawa tengah.
very nice work on the blade, a little tip to avoid a gap between the blade and the brass inlay, file down the metal of the knive at the part where the blade ends and the brass part goes, so you have to put it from the other side but there's no way there can be a gap. keep up the great work!
doesn't look too comfortable to hold in your hand actually
It looks like its more for artistic value.
notice when he shows the paper the end doesnt have a handle plus the title is blade not weapon
You need to see the real one from java indonesia. That far more beautiful and far more arthictic than this shifty look
@@buoy9665 My big family (which is part of Japanese keraton) have this weapon. It's a weapon, although not to comfortable to handle, it's actually often used as a medium for magic and spiritual things, often filled with supernatural entity inside of it. My family's has a white snake entity inside of it. Also the handle isn't supposed to look like that, the real one supposed to look like a normal knife handle
I always love the sound effects you bring into ur vids 😂😂
Woe unto the zombie that staggers on to J D's property.
Very cool blade, that's a lot of freehand metal sculpting, turned out great!
Keris is Indonesia traditional weapons and I think its not inspired blade, keris design for stabing human body not for cutting

What a silly lookimg handle.
Yea, it's uncomfortable as hell
Your videos never cease to amaze me Jimmy, keep it up!
😄 indonesia blade traditional
That is cool. Looks like the blade took a lot of time, and I really like the scabbard-handle concept.
That is beautiful work, unique with the rectangular handle/sheath!

Simple technic and design. I appreciate it!
i love the wavay blade on spears, the kriss spear is one of my favorite designs
As with every other Diresta project, it's fantastic. I don't know if he lives in New York anymore, but Gavko makes knives. you guys should do a collaboration knife. That would be amazing.
love the shape of the blade contained in the cube
Very nice, I really like how the wood turned out!
Wow you did an amazing job for such a difficult blade grind
I don't know what you were talking about in the description. I think you did a great job on this knife.
Keris is original knife from java, in earlier times in java you must be someone who has a high magic to be able to make a keris, coz it's only made by hand and hammer with fire. And Jimmy DiResta made it with his own style and i like it, thanks for make keris more widely known.
DiResta, usted no es poco, es muy genio, super talentozo.
Dificil un video que se ve su talento ,no causar gusto. Continue asi.
in the factl, keris made by means of continuous forging iron plate so that a thin sheet. That's why the original dagger has a beautiful line groove.
a Brazilian written here, I love your videos.
I have two keris, they were from my grandfather. Maybe also from his grandfather and grandfather.. Nowdays no one could make it, purely keris. Only miniature, or just a knife shaped like keris
The wood and brass are a great combo for the blade
Wow, its from my country....this is one of legend knive in my land....love it dude
super cool sword! i love keris and very impressed with your work man
I appreciate all the work you put
That's somethin to be proud of!! Great work!
YOU ARE A BAD MAN JIMMY! Excellent work.
Awesome man! That was some massive grinding to shape it!
Beautiful case with a hidden treasure!
Nice Job Man! Poor Pumpkin! LOL!
You just been the inspiration on my shack! Taping the 2-comp tubes together...💘
wow its great! Even not exactly the same, but nice. Keris originally from Indonesia . the whole empire of antiquity in Indonesia has its own Keris. Used today as a symbol of tradition and culture . This weapon is actually reflects the prudent behavior of the owner , where the keris was never put in front of the waist , but behind the waist, means in order to hold the owner of emotion , anger , and put forward the deliberations . however , if a Keris placed in the front waist ... means that the owner was going to fight or kill.
when he started making the sheath for a second I was thinking you were making this a folding knife.
You make the all tools items its very nice, good luck your company and i wish you all the best
Very interesting piece. Reductive blade making is an awesome way to make some of your first blades. I dig it's covert nature. Somewhat akin to some katana blades I've studied, that look like an innocuous walking stick until drawn. Another cool vid bro!
love the way it looks, as well as the design, but theres only two things i personally would have done differently. Firstly, rounded out the corners simply for aesthetic and comfort. secondly, added pin-holes to the handle for stability between the wood & tang. not claiming to be a pro or anything, its just something i've noticed other blade makers do, and it's common in the swords and fixed blade knives that i own
I love the style of blade and build, keep rockin'
for those smartass,
Raffles' (1817) study of the Candi Sukuh states that the kris recognized today CAME INTO EXISTENCE around 1361 AD in the kingdom of Majapahit, East Java, Indonesia. (wikipedia)
however malay, vietnam, brunei and other countries near Indonesia share a common blade. which also named as keris or kris.
8:50 so many clamps this is a man after my own heart.
Far from an expert, but I've made a few. Yours looks legit, that profile is a beast to make look nice. Kudos amigo, always looking forward to the next one.
Keris is traditional weapon of java indonesia. Thanks bro. Your work is great
Quick Question, "What were the holes drilled in the blade for?" usually you put holes to nail something in, but he just glued the whole thing in.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thanks
that was a good peice of a legendary dagger, now I've seen the making of my favourite dagger!!
My only question is wether or not that material was heat treated when you bought it, if so you might want to take it easy with the angle-grinder, and keep a bucket of water or coolant near your grinding station the last thing you want is to destroy a professional grade heat treat by going crazy on the profile grinding.
the thing about traditional keris is, it mostly has a spiritual being enchanted by some kind of rituals passed from ancestor and in family line, but now only limited amount of people still keep the tradition of periodic ritual
Beautiful work as always. How many hours of grinding and filing went into making the blade? Best regards, R.O.
