yo bro, that happened to me too. i got the fix , i found this youtube video posted by AarohanTechSol. It worked for me in Fifa 22 , just try some of the stuff this guy does, and maybe undo some settings ,as that happened to me and i barely fixed it.
Hi i got the same problem and those steam solutions didn't work for me. But i notice that Origin should be closed during launching game from steam and then it works.
make sure that you enable in game overly form steam settings otherwise it will not work steam/settings/in game/enable steam overly while in game(make sure the tick is there

Update: tried using x360ce to configure the controller and it seems every button got messed up, X was replaced with O and vice versa, also Triangle with Square.

The video I was looking for. Man it was frustrating that my controller would in a match but it was difficult to navigate the menu as the A button wouldn’t select or would skip a section when I go left or right in the menu. This made making subs a pain.

It’s still a little finicky and have to be patient once in a while but been able to get solid games in. With the recent update gameplay has been more smooth and less glitchy. Been running at 30fps and it’s been solid. To be able to play fifa handheld with better graphcis than the switch with full features is legit

The problem is way easier to fix. Go to Steam settings > controller > General controller settings > uncheck XBOX CONFIGURATION SUPPORT. And its fixed.
