Dan lok, just started watching your videos last week. Initially drawn in by the jkd, because I've trained with Sifu Dwayne Keller in Crystal River Florida.... Who was primarily trained by Ted Wong and Lamar Davis, among other's. I then started watching your "boss in a Bentley" series as well, and very much appreciate all the advice and truth.
I'm very impressed with your Sifu. His bai-jong foot work is impeccable. Very good tips offered up on all fronts. Thank you for your efforts, sir.

This is great. Love these videos with your sifu. Ocatvio should be in movies!!! I just started taking JKD for 4 months now. I am 58 and loving it. Reaction time...in tight close punching. I am just at the beginning stages and learning destructions and straight line punching. Some great tips on speed and how to punch too ....not being tight. I am learning that. THanks for posting!!!

@@mariusprodan8601 depends on what you consider. Jkd isn't actual a style in reality. Like Bruce believed the best fighting style is having no style. Jkd is just that. Depends on the fighter and the way he utilizes it so if given the option to choose a style for the most adaptive fighter ever then Jkd would be the best indeed.

Alteration speed is the ability to change up your attack, BASED on how your opponent reacts. I understand your application of alteration speed, but it's really more about your ability to adapt like a shadow to your opponent. A drill I was hoping to see (that better explains alteration speed) would be the step - reaction drill. It's hard to apply but when you get it, it's great as I'm sure you know.
As Lee has stated: JKD is the art of fighting without fighting. You adapt to your opponent like a shadow and compliment his attack with your own. Alteration speed (in a reactionary capacity) is one of the hardest things to do because you must remove anticipation. It's all pure reaction and adapting to the opponent. A good basic drill that you could of shown, would have been the one where you face your partner, both of you are in fighting stances. You are in kicking range to your partner, you take a step forward (to punching range) with your lead leg and deliver a low lead light punch to your partners midsection - deliberately telegraphing your action so your partner sees the attack. Your partner then either does nothing and takes the lightly applied hit to his midsection or reacts with a gan sao (downward outward block) to try to block your low punch. Again, if you step in to apply the low straight punch, and your partner does NOT block you, you must continue the punch with no hesitation, lightly hitting your partner's midsection. However, if he does the low downward block (gan sao) to block your punch, you step in (checking his lead leg with your lead leg moving into trapping range) using a left hand pin to his downward block and a swinging gate action with your punch (to dissolve his energy) and apply a lead backfist (open hand tap) to your partners head. Repeat the drill many times and switch and have your partner do the same to you.
The goal of the drill is to develop your reaction and not anticipate. The drill teaches you to alter your attack when obstructed and hit when there is emptiness. Your partner may let you strike him a few times before he blocks you. You must learn to only react. It's not easy to do at first.

Now I just need to apply that to martial arts lol.
