I own one of these and for those of you that have screen rotation issues I found you have to fine tune the pc. when you change a few settings the twist works great. Its a true grab and go Ultra Book. you wont need a tablet and a pc this one computer does it all.
Almost bought...but low-res, non-backlit keyboard and lack of digitizer was too much to ignore. Hopefully these things get added in time for the haswell revision. Now between taichi, xps 12, or transformer book...
What are our changes of getting this with an active digitizer? Or even a Yoga with an active digitizer? The device is a beauty in terms of size and ergonomics.
I would love to see this in a non-Edge look. By that I mean: 1. Get rid of the shiny border. 2. Less-rounded corners. If you could make this thing look similar to the classic thinkpads, with this thinness, you'll have a winner.
I've been um-ing and ah-ing recently about whether or not to get a Windows tablet or heavily upgrade my desktop - this video pretty much sold me. I mean, it's a laptop AND a tablet!
Agreed, I saw one at Office Depot, compared to Win8 tablets, and would have bought it if it had an active digitizer. I heard the TP Tablet 2's USB ports will not run keyboards, hard drives, etc., not fully funtional. The twist would meet my needs if it had the digitizer. Good capacity plus USB3, plus other features are a plus that I need over an Atom Win8 tablet.
Stylus are sticks that work on any capacitive screen (including this one). Digitizers require custom screens (see X2,,,T) and are far more accurate. This doesn't have one sadly. If you want this kind of form factor and a pen, you'll have to look at the Thinkpad Tablet 2 or the Thinkpad X240T (name pending). Both are going to be slightly different than this product.
Couple of points: 1. I previously owned a 13 inch EDGE and the whining fan noise was unacceptable (small fan running at high speed). This was acknowledged by the local Lenovo tech support as a design issue (not a fault), and I had to return the machine for a refund. Has this been addressed in this machine? 2. How about a machine like this in classic (non-EDGE) style? Matt finish, lid closure latch, no chrome detailing? I'd be much more attracted to that. Ths Paul (Owner of 5 Thinkpads)
Just realized you do mention that in your vid... It's gorilla glass. I've been told gorilla glass shatters when dropped vs traditional screens are more durable. Would this survive a drop in tablet mode?
This will be a nice stand-by until the Surface Pro comes out. I tried the Surface with WindowsRT but it won't even run all the metro apps that are available on Windows 8 so I sent it back. I decided I wanted 100% Windows 8. This will be great for some light gaming, web consuming, watching videos as well as a development machine for when I'm working at home. I'll more than likely trade it up for a Surface Pro when that finally comes out
i think this make more sense than the yoga, as the keyboard facing top whereas the yoda facing down. this is the main difference.. but also the yoga's mechanism and motion is more simple!
1. No backlit keyboard (ugh!) 2. Low resolution screen (seriously Lenovo, it's not 2001) 3. This device really needs a better graphics card 4. A stylus should be included For the price, I want more. I tried this model for 3 weeks and reluctantly had to return it for the reasons above. It also had issues detecting some of my USB 3.0 devices. Hopefully the next version will include a better display.
Last question.. im sorry if its annoying.. the Thinpad twist, how vulnerable is it due to water? I read about thinkpads are very "resistent" for water damage, compared to for example sony or other laptops (wish basically die if you accidently throw coffee over it). Is it "resistent" i mean, is it "tested" on US military standarts, like other thinkpads (somewhere on lenovo site is stated, that the thinkpads are tested for US military standarts). Sorry for my pretty bad english though!
A Samsung 830 250GB SSD can be had on Amazon.com for 180 USD before tax/shipping. Which I imagine is about the price of a 2TB HD. However, the use model for each is entirely different.
I saw online (on the lenovo site) that this thing can have a 500gb HDD drive in it... That's unusual for an ultrabook right? does that mean there also could fit dedicated graphics card and not just the onboard one?
1. agreed, but most business users won't need it 2. for a 12.5" screen, its pretty good (1600x900 or 1920x1080 is, IMO, too high of a resolution for such a small screen) 3. most ultrabooks have integrated graphics 4. YES PLEASE! also, I'd like it if the battery actually lasted 7 hours. I'm getting 3.5 - 4 at best (50% brightness on Balanced w/ Wifi)
the problem I have is that they showed this is a "tent mode" when in fact it does not work in that mode, the screen thinking it is in a laptop mode and is upside down. You can not over come this. Viewing the video a couple times, I noticed they had the screen turned away in the tent mode so you would not be able to see that the screen was upside down. tell me, what is that all about??????
Is there any chance this computer will come with a 13.3 inch screen? Is the screen 10 finger touchpoint? And I also wanted to know if there was a digitizer pen? Lastly, is the construction the same as the X1 Carbon? Thanks.
yes but that tablet is advertised to have atom processors only up to 64 gb hd and only 2gb ram, so its not comparable at all. I want to replace my tablet pc, which I find to be heavy (it still works great though), and the twist could have been a great option if it had a digitizer, but no. Are you going to release a product similar to the twist with digitizer or to the tablet 2 but with a real processor and components?
darn.. i wanted more of a laptop like the one in this product no digitizer is bad. i dnt want a laptop but a touchscreen laptop with reversable screen like this wudve rocked. :(
This looks nice, but the reason I still have my x41 (which refuses to die) is that it has the tablet pen. If this had a tablet pen like the '41's Wacom pen, at this price point, I'd start saving for it now... then promptly remove windows 8, lol.
Does the Lenovo Twist support digitizer at all? If i purchase a digitzer online from a 3rd party provider. I really want to use Microsoft Onenote to take school notes.
Wow! Is there no matt screen available? That's a showstopper for me. Why abandon the established design principles which have made Thinkpads so appealing over the years. Big pity. Paul (5 TPs)
I would like it if was a little prettier. For example the screen to be closer down to the bottom. Its so far up! Also I don't like the trackpad. However at least for the trackpad I know that is for business purposes.
the twist and/or yoga have the same touch sensibility as the thinkpad tablets? I also plan on using the twist/yoga (whichever I buy) to draw and do more creative stuff... but there are no reviews about the sensibility, only about the ability of having 10 multitouch points... and would a tablet stylus or pen work with the lenovo twist and/or yoga displays? (maybe it's a stupid question, but who knows... is better to ask than to assume) (sth like this: /watch?v=6YRtp2AYBG4)
Yeah, well I compared a 128GB with 1TB, not 2 ;) But yeah I agree, they are for entirely different uses and one is not better than the other. Just depends on what you need.
I just need some information please.. when i purchase this Thinkpad with I7 and 8Gig ddr3 ram, will it be noisy? will it be quiet? cause thats important if you wanna use it in the university.. ahh please do not lie to me because you wanna sell it, if you would say no, i would just buy another ienovo, just not with i7.. I just need to know that (cause if i purchase a noise Thinkpad, i wont be able to use it at all)
They didnt even explain what 'tent mode' is and why I would want it.. I too was straining to my right trying to see what was going on . Very deceptive. Microsoft must be involved
No I just ordered mine. It is half an impulse but and half a I need it buy but that is really the only negative as of right now I am seeing. Still have yet to try it out.
soooo close to purchasing this amazing laptop, then I realized there was no stylus. what a disappointment, because this laptop has all the ports I need AND it's cheaper and more stylish than the X230t (and looks much lighter than the x230t with the 6 cell battery). Too bad it does not the active digitizer (drawing and writing notes is pretty crucial for me). I guess I'll be forced to buy the X230t for the higher price and heavier weight...
Does anyone know if someone's done benchmark performance tests of this PC? I've looked at so many reviews and now I'm just waiting to see if this is as good as it looks. Help!
Why in the world would you use a spinning hard drive? I guess I'll wait until an SSD version comes out. Which will be thinner and have longer battery life. Lenovo has some ok products. They're just a few shortcomings on them that prevents people from actually owning it. The spinning hard drive on this and the crappy non IPS screen on the X1 Carbon. Which suffers from the horrible screen door effects....

This Ultrabook supports Digitalizer Pen ThinkPad x60?
ThinkPad Tablet 2 has only 10 inch screen. Tiny. A lot of people are looking for an ultrabook that can also act as a notebook. At least 11.6 inch screen, 14 inch sweet spot (A4 paper size), heck maybe there's even demand for 15 inchers, I personally would love so much screen real estate for serious multitasking. Let alone inking would be a pleasure. Have a look at asus transformer book concept. Yeah, you have to compensate for the battery life, but with enough juice in the dock, it rocks.
I was thinking at first who would use there laptop in tent mode. Then i thought about its application while lying in bed... No blocked vents! but i still want to know if i would be able to get a graphics card with this. That would be so great!!!
a 128GB SSD is still as expensive as a 1TB HD (ok not entirely fair as that's a 3.5 inch HD, but still, SSD's are expensive and one with more space than 128GB would've made the convertable a lot more expensive).
I have this thing. Its horrible rotation pisses me off and its un fixable. You look stupid constantly flipping laptop,to return it to its position. During that process the touch screen feature malfunctions and disables itself. You have to restart. And everything takes like 2minutes to open. Ive only had this for two weeks...
Wait... is that a traditional ThinkPad keyboard??? Come on, you guys took that fantastic old baby out of all the T and X series products and kept it on this one? I don't get it. Really.
this looks great. And I love the 24GB SSD combinated with the 500GB "regular" hard drive. It's the best tablet/laptop option outhere!
Just bought one of these, can't wait for it to arrive :)
Why is this beautiful piece of technology so much more expensive in Germany than in the US?
I mean $799 to about 1000€ is a damn lot
This was my bday present from my hubby....so happy!!

Great vid. Can you guys comment on the hinge? Seems a little flimsy. Is it a similar construction to the x230t?
Just realized you do mention that in your vid... It's gorilla glass. I've been told gorilla glass shatters when dropped vs traditional screens are more durable.

you mentioned it went through the typical thinkpad tests, but does that include the milspec tests as well?
i think this make more sense than the yoga, as the keyboard facing top whereas the yoda facing down. this is the main difference.. but also the yoga's mechanism and motion is more simple!

i would also like a digitizer on the thinkpad twist.
great product but I assume the so called tent mode didn't work correctly otherwise they had showed the display
the problem I have is that they showed this is a "tent mode" when in fact it does not work in that mode, the screen thinking it is in a laptop mode and is upside down. You can not over come this. i want by laptop to have very good graphics power (gaming or professional graphics). Can i have a discrete graphics card with this?
I want it so badly!

It scares me when it shakes everytime. It seems to shake whenever you touch it and putting that in tent mode looked so fragile.
So this is ThinkPad-class, not ThinkPad Edge-class? or ThinkPad Edge is done now?
I would like it if was a little prettier. For example the screen to be closer down to the bottom. Its so far up! Also I don't like the trackpad. However at least for the trackpad I know that is for business purposes.
no digitizer pen? i would miss that.
The Yoga looks much better. I'll be picking that one up.
If I bought a separate digitizer pen, like for the X230t, would it be possible to use it with this?
Does it have pen-input? And I am asking about Waicom/S-pen like pens.. not the blunt stylus which normally comes for capacitative screens..
the twist and/or yoga have the same touch sensibility as the thinkpad tablets? I also plan on using the twist/yoga (whichever I buy) to draw and do more creative stuff... but there are no reviews about the sensibility, only about the ability of having 10 multitouch points...

Is the keyboard a Backlit one?
Why the SDD can not be larger than 128GB (like the 180Gb proposed on T series?)
Will this be coming with NVIDIA CUDA GPUs ?
And why doesnt it have a .. you know (pen?) you know to write on it and stuff.. can you only need fingers or do you just have to buy it seperate?
Hi
You have to make a Ideapad Yoga 15.6" with dedicated graphics and a quad-core i7 from the newest generation maybe a 4700...
just sayin.
Amazing gonna buy one
Does this model has a pen input ? dual digitizer ? or just finger input ?
I wonder why Thinkpad laptops are not that stylish unlike the ideapad... I want the specs of thinkpad but i want the case of ideapad :)
Doesn't that only come with a clover trail? Please tell me I'm wrong
good job lenovo!!!
what is the cost of this product?
We need a Wacom Stylus on this one
is that yoga edition for thinkpad?
I just need some information please.. when i purchase this Thinkpad with I7 and 8Gig ddr3 ram, will it be noisy? will it be quiet? cause thats important if you wanna use it in the university..
ahh please do not lie to me because you wanna sell it, if you would say no, i would just buy another ienovo, just not with i7.. I just need to know that (cause if i purchase a noise Thinkpad, i wont be able to use it at all)
my thoughts excactly
guess it doesnt replace the x230t afterall

no option for putting larger batteries? D:

If I buy a digitizer from the thinkpad tablet 2 will it work on this?
you can use a capacitive pen bro
Hi
We want the pen with the twist not the much smaller tablet 2.
At 2:42 you can see that the display does flip.
logo is upside down when the lid is up.
is there a way to use a digitizer???????
What's so special about this over the X series tablets?
i want one.is t here a dvd player build in?
what the price?how many inch?
ThinkPad Tablet 2 has only 10 inch screen. Tiny. A lot of people are looking for an ultrabook that can also act as a notebook. Where is the digitizer pen?
can I use digital stylus on this?
Love it
IS THERE A DIGITIZER STYLUS?
Can I get it without windows?
Would be perfect without glossy screen and bezel

I think the Yoga was a stupid idea, but this is the real deal.
fan vent on the right side ?!

During that process the touch screen feature malfunctions and disables itself. You have to restart. And everything takes like 2minutes to open. Ive only had this for two weeks...
Is that a glass (/gorilla glass) screen? Sure looks like it... I hope not :-( .
just two USB ports?
it's your finger!!! Jeeezzz!
does this have a cd drive?
are you able to play minecraft on this?
stylus?
Wait... is that a traditional ThinkPad keyboard??? Come on, you guys took that fantastic old baby out of all the T and X series products and kept it on this one? I don't get it. Really.
no stylus?
I bet a 700 laptop will perform better than the surface pro
Yes. I think so, because it is a computer and a tablet, all computers can get and play Minecraft, so you can play Minecraft on it. logic for the win
sata is not better, it just suits different needs.
