If the mother or parents really hate the child, they'll neglect it or abuse it. Many infants to toddlers get abused and then die from being hit over and over. Putting a unwanted baby in a baby box is better than having to deal with it at home. It won't get abused and has the fairest start in life with higher chances of being fostered or adopted, as many abused kids have trauma and are too much for foster parents.

I think it is good bc some ppl can’t even afford pregnancy testers or go to the doctors. It’s pretty expensive just to get an appointment over there. So I think it should be there. But yea some ppl don’t deserve to have the option to just dumping the baby, but ig it is better environment for the children that growing in an unsafe or unstable home environment

It's a known fact that abandoned children fail to live longer and make past their teens. Even if they did, they will grow up neglected. There are only handful of happy stories like oh the abandoned child got adopted to a well off loving family or the parents realised their mistake and started loving their child. It happens. But it's rare. If you do not want a child, I think it's better to abort it. If it's too late, the government should provide some financial aid to parents/mom who cant bring up a child

it's way better to leave your child in a baby box than to raise them in a household where they don't feel loved or don't feel like they have the right resources. it's ridiculous to discriminate against people who had kids but can't afford to raise them. people have different stories and the baby box will improve and change a child's story for the better.

You hear about how in Korea, mothers would leave the babies in the mountains or outside a church where there was no heat and sometimes no one would know they were there because the mothers were so scared and would be shamed if they tried to give up the child face to face. Sometimes it happens that a fresh mother just panics and leaves her baby there, then realises she can handle it, and comes to pick it up again. And if not, the baby is free for adoption after a couple of days, and makes people happy who want but can't have a baby of their own.

This true for the Korean baby box as well! When the light monitor goes off inside the box, normally a volunteer will run out to chat with the parent. Baby boxes should not be seen as an "easy" anything. They are literally saving lives. Parents who realize they cannot take care of a baby and know that someone out there would love to care for their baby should not be punished or ridiculed. They are showing the ultimate love for their child by making the hardest decision possible. Not everyone should be a parent and it takes a lot of love for your child to recognize this fact and try to make sure the baby gets the best possible future even if it's not with the biological parent.

I think it saves a lot of babies from more harm. Desperate parents might resort to worse than leaving their children if they are not provided a solution like that. It also saves children from growing up in an environment that doesn’t want them and/or can’t provide for them emotionally/monetarily ( not saying that the foster system is a perfect place 😢 ). In some cases the parent/ mother is a drug user or in a abusive relationship etc and they might not have a save place to raise the baby.

@@rebeccagarrett7111 Nasty attitude. So let me help you out Karen. Evjdently you think she was early in her pregnancy...she wasn't as far as I could see when she spoke to me. I could clearly see her belly. I also don't and didn't know anything about her, her life or family. I was working for a non profit feeding low income children not a coucelor. I doomed? Omg..why Karen? She put the baby there. Why she said that to me I will never know AND it was not my place to suggest her kill her child when she had to be in her final trimester or close to it AND not my place to suggest anything more than I did because I did not know her and I have no idea why she said that to me. What I could do was make sure her nutrition was the best I could provide at my job so I did. A random chld told me she was in the hospital to give birth a couple weeks or so after she said that to me. After work I went to see her I also hoped a parent was there. Her mom was an addict and I never could get to her to let her know what she said. The girl looked so sad. Her mom was not there. The things I suggested were all there was left that I knew of. I doomed? Really Karen? She put the child there and I have no idea why she did not or if she did say anything to the social worker at the hospital, use the box or seek adoption services. I JUST HAVE NO IDEA! Willing to pay? I have 3 children of my own and wasnt seeking a 4th AND the girl is not my daughter, I was NEVER able to tell her mother and I tried..hard. Her dad wasnt in the home I dont think and the one sister I found was younger and not a lot of help. The post is about the baby box which I agree with its use. Being pretty much a stranger to her and having her say this was a trip but bite me Karen I was not responsible her mother/family was. What I was responsible for was reporting her mom to CPS for having a pregnant teen and allowing her 2 sons to show up to eat completely filthy and one of them came in a pee filled diaper so I bought diapers and changed him then fed him.
Now why dont you stop Karen? Feel free to check yourself then ask me anything you like but do not speak to me in that manner please. This was a horrible amd shocking situation and also an example of why baby boxes are needed. We need this choice.
Also I seems like you think I am a pro-lifer. I am not. Had I not had pregnancy choices I would be dead. Maybe take this Karen attitude over to facebook, get in one of those groups that argue about abortions and Karen-out over there.

I visited a place in Korea. They also have rooms to drop off the babies so they can feel safer leaving their baby in a spacious place than a box. Sometimes the pastor tries to talk to the parents and offer them assistance in case that’s what they need instead

Not everyone wants a child, it's better this way then to leave those children with parents that don't want them or are unprepared mentally/financially/physically. Though, I have to say, they also need to take accountability for their actions regardless. It depends on their reason(s) on why they abandon their "unwanted" child so I can't really say much about it. Not all of them have the same reasons or circumstances

I remember this story. The man started this after finding many babies were already being dumped/abandoned along near his street. People were already doing it beforehand. People who give up their child are either very desparate or not fit to be parents. No matter how you look at it the baby box is in the best interest for the babies, it's better than being raised by someone who couldnt afford the children or even from those parents who dont want children.

There are always going to be people who abandon their babies and there will always be people who are too ashamed to give them up at police stations, fire stations, and orphanages. I think this is only beneficial as it is a safe and anonymous place to give up the baby and will encourage those who would abandon their babies in dumpsters and alleys to leave them in a safe place.

"easy way out" as opposed to what? killing it? leaving it somewhere where it'll die? being forced to keep it knowing you're not capable to raise a child, then the child getting neglected and/or abused? if someone is willing to abandon their baby, we should encourage them to do it safely like how this baby box is allowing people to.

Its truly a good reason - we have it as well in Germany, and it is a really good option for everyone. For the children and also for the parents, wheither its a teen mom or just a not-wanting-a-child-mom. Noone looses something i think and the children get to be in foster families who can give them all the love they need to have.

Considering the recent news in my country about multiple cases of abandoned babies in the trash can, in the bushes, and other dangerous places for a baby to be left alone, a baby box is much appreciated and very needed here. Considering that at least, those babies are gonna be taken care of instead of being just thrown away near the road of someone's house.

Baby box or no baby box unfortunately people abandon other people whether it is a baby or an adult for various reasons and that's okay, no one knows what someone is going through, but atleast with the baby box the child will be comfortable and safe, atleast the mothers can walk away thinking atleast they left them in a safe place.

  • @kelle6629

In an interview with the pastor, the pastor notes that whenever they receive the notification they will try to run out and meet the individual leaving behind their baby, talk to the individual and find other ways that don't include abandonment. I don't think the intention of the box is to encourage abandonment in society in general. And the box can't be used as the sole reason why individuals don't feel supported to care for their child. The box is only a small bandaid solution to a wider systemic problem and should still be praised for saving lives. The alternative is much worse. 😢

Also not sure if this is taken into account but the mothers that leave infants in baby boxes cannot deliver in a hospital. Because by law the hospital has to record the time of birth and most don’t want their child to be on their record at all. So there were cctv footage was women bleeding, having given birth in a near by motel, by themselves and walking to the baby box. The whole ordeal is incredibly inhumane to single mothers or any women who doesn’t want a child. I hope SK will improve in the following decade but it’s unlikely. It really saddens me to accept that this is our reality.

I've seen the documentaries (both old and new because the pastor who originally started the baby box retired and they switched the person in charge) and of course there may be many women who abondon their baby's because they don't want the responsibility...but 60% are minors and often they don't seem to have other choices because they get neither help from their parents, nor governmental support (+ can't get jobs because of biased views for being single moms). I cried a lot during the documentaries and everyone who says these mostly young mother's give their baby's away for solely selfish reasons don't know what their talking about. Korean society lacks empathy and acceptance in this (and many other) situation. Watch the documentaries if you really want to inform yourself before making assumptions.
    Thank you.

People that say it’s the easy way out should open their homes to these abandoned children then or to the mothers who struggle with finding a support system. Not everyone is blessed with a support system and not everyone can handle it alone
