As guests on this tour, we had a great time and cannot thank you enough for this wonderful week! We could have not imagined a better guide, with so much experience, humor and passion for his work. For everyone looking for an authentic guide who really cares about the dog's wellbeing, there you go! Matti and Stina, keep up your great work, we will be back! :) I.+T.
I’ve seen many documentaries highlighting how sled dogs are often exploited during the winter and neglected during the summer, which left me with little trust in the industry. However, I originally followed your channel for the outdoor camping and canoeing content, and eventually started watching your dog-related videos. To my surprise and delight, you’ve restored my faith that there are people who genuinely care for their sled dogs all year round. It’s clear your dogs have a wonderful life and truly love what they do. Keep up the fantastic work!
Thanks! I totally agree. Lots of sled dogs have a life thats not good. The sled dog industry isn't nice. To much money, to many people who make dog mushing because it's a cool image to be a guide and so on... You can make it good but you have to do it with your heart. The interesting thing is that if you follow your heart, the money will come sooner or later. / Matti
Are any of your dogs Seppala Siberians? I recognized "the look" in a few of them. I have two that are each half Seppalas. They are so fun and quirky they really keep me on my toes, even at 14 and 15. I'm a recreational musher and love to help out a friend of mine in northern Minnesota. She's leads a project to preserve a gorgeous line of Alaskan huskies called Hedlunds. The line started as freight dogs bred to be excellent companions, too, and they're so calm and discerning. Many of your approaches are similar to how my friend runs her kennel, called Points Unknown. My mentor was wonderful at teaching me how to have calm hookups and I'm so grateful to her for that. I truly don't understand the why so many mid-distance racers want their dogs to be so hyped up at the start of races. It seems like their dogs are wasting energy screaming and banging in their harnesses. To each their own I suppose. Congratulations on such beautiful kennel and touring operation. I'd sure love to visit sometime!
Thanks! Our Siberians are mostly from Igloo Pak and Zero. It’s not the pure Seppala as you mentioned but of course, back in all days all Siberians were from the same dogs. I’m not satisfied with our starts. I want them even calmer. /Matti
I'm a fellow dog nerd, but with a completely different type of dogs, and it's so interesting to see how different and how highly specialized your dogs are. I'd love a video about the mentality of the dogs and what traits you're looking for, but I realize that's probably a bit too nerdy 😅 Amazing dogs though, and I agree with everything you said about how to keep them healthy ❤

Matti& Stina created a video several years ago about how they re-designed their kennels. Instead of removing the top & leaning over a wall, Matti & Stina re-engineered the kennels so they could remove one of the walls which makes cleaning so much easier. Look for it. It's one of my favorite videos on this channel. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.
Always interesting to see how others do things. For example, my dog meat comes in 25 kilo blocks. I really like the appearance of your dogs. Most of the lineages here are Alaskan of racing stock. Lots of leg and ordinary fur. But they really move. Having sled dogs is a life style. In my area, I'm the last one. There are lots of sacrifices that must be made but it is also rewarding. There's a lot more to being a dog musher than sledding dogs! Most people quit after a few years. I have about 35 under my belt. This particular video shows this well. Thanks for the video.
@@azclaimjumper Thanks. If you want to see how I do dogs my channel is called Musher's Tails. All good from east Kentucky USA Next time. Happy Holidays to You and Stina. A busy season.
A great timing because in Finland we are getting bad news about how some kennels are treating their dogs. Actually, one case is from a Swedish kennel that operates in Finland but anyway amazing topic of the video.
There was a kennel in Kiruna (Sweden) that had to quit because of bad dog care. They had to close down and ‘get rid ’ of 130 huskies! I have seen some videos from the bad dog care in Finland. The material I saw was a Swedish operator who was in Finland. It’s just sad when the business have grown to a business instead of a lifestyle thing… 😢 /Matti
Thanks! I have been thinking about that. It could be a kind of migraine that is caused of dehydration/lack of sleep etc. I usually get it once or twice during the season. No normal pain killers works. I just have to go through it and next day I’m fine. Thanks for advice!!! 😃 /Matti
@@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA You are a wonderful person. “I would never treat a dog as I treat myself” - says a lot about your character. But please be kind to yourself, too. ❤
You have many dogs, how do you get them to accept inspections of potentially painful sores and infections? I previously asked in a Q&A about if they know much more commands than 'höger', 'venster', 'stanna', etc. and the reply I got was that the training you do is so functional that that is basically it. But what you show in this video is quite an advanced level of collaborative care - even if it is not done as commands with a name and a word that make them snap into a certain position. What else are they accustomed to, and how do you build this trust?
I know that things like that could happen. I was also lucky that a veterinary friend was at the cabin when Bruno was ill and died. She helped me try to solve the problem. She did everything possible to do out in the wild. That made me feel better than if I had been there alone. Now, I knew that we made everything that we could. But it was still hard. The hardest part was that he was pushing himself over the edge because he wanted to work for me. He really made everything for me... He worked even if he probably didn't feel well and he didn't show it for me... That's something I don't want to experience again... :-( / Matti
