You know, in Russian we have a strict rule how to spell verbs according to person's gender (pronounce). So if you have a male name: James (Джеймс) for instance; and you identify yourself as a man - talking about you with another person, I'd say:
- James WENT to the pub with us this weekends.
Nothing weird, because in English and most of other languages past tense verbs both for men and women are the same.
In Russian I would say:
- Джеймс ХОДИЛ с нами в бар на этих выходных.
So, as you can see, «ходил» is a verb which we use ONLY talking about male objects in past.
Let's take another example. Imagine that you have a female name - for instance, Jenny (Дженни), and you identify yourself as a woman - talking about you with another person I would say:
- Jenny WENT to the pub with us this weekends.
The only thing which these two sentences are different in is the name. English past tense (or any else) verbs doesn't have gender (as adjectives, and as objects (not all though, but it's not the topic right now)), but Russian ones do. So in my language I would say:
- Дженни ХОДИЛА с нами в бар на этих выходных.
Can you see, there's only one extra letter? But this verb already means that I am talking about a woman or a female gender object.
