One of the most overlooked areas of Switzerland is also its most beautiful! I'd heard of Appenzell, but didn't have it at the top of my list. After visiting, I can confidently suggest that you don't miss this are when you travel to Switzerland!
When my dad suggested we add it to our next trip, I was on board, but not as excited as I should have been, because WOW this area is incredible! It looks like the Windows background come to life haha.
We headed up the Ebenalp Cable Car/ Lift on our first day. There are so many hiking option up there, and we chose a loop hike. We ended our hike at the famous Aescher restaurant - built into the side of a mountain.
The next day, we came back to the same area, but did a hike at the base of the mountain - Seealpsee.
After our hike, we headed to the village of Appenzell, where we walked around quaint houses and enjoyed some local pastries.

I still can’t believe how much Switzerland looks like Colorado, just greener! I didn’t realize I need a cheese vending machine in my life, but I definitely do.

The cheese vending machine is the new goal haha. This area definitely has similar landscapes to CO. The Alps though.. so different!

We did pretty much the same trip two years ago in September as well. Stayed overnight at Gasthaus Eicher which was fabulous. We were the only guests so we were treated like royalty. Appenzell is a beautiful place well worth the visit.
