      Sadly when Terry went cagey about the different views about the different treks that kinda put me off him a bit , yeah he's got to be diplomatic but to bring up folk are turning their backs on season 3 Picard because we like it ...fuck that shit man , so because it's not singing from the woke hymn book it's no longer good enough for them ...trek wouldn't be here if not for the fans , and not these Johnny/she/them comelatelys ..Terry stop trying to appease minority groups , or placate them ...star trek is supposedly based in the 25th century , today's politics or views have no place being in them ...these shows are for entertainment,not preaching

I was just more fearful that he'd just bail out when Gary, Dave and Robert joined in without notice, which he definitely noticed. He knows little about Star Trek, and what he knows, he doesn't understand. All Picard S3 has done so far is wallow in nostalgia and memberberries. And so far, all the pre season advertising about the season being a TNG cast reunion has been nothing short of bait and switch.

    • @Gabriel-ci7db
      @Gabriel-ci7db Год назад

      @@BillyBob-qg6qc Completely disagree. Picard S3 is a combination of nostalgia, memberberries, but more importantly there is an actual story with arcs, setups, and payoffs. You may not like the story but in contrast to S1 and 2 (garbage of the highest order), this is really good stuff.

    • @BillyBob-qg6qc
      @BillyBob-qg6qc Год назад

      @@Gabriel-ci7db So far, it's just been a highly unoriginal soup of TNG's Conspiracy without the aliens, DS9's Homefront and Paradise Lost, and a sprinkling of a nutty female Nero from 2009. Bringing Ro Laren back as some lame plot device, just to, I assume, kill her at the end of one episode, is unforgivable and has Kurtzman's stain all over it. I'm seeing very little actual story. I'll admit episode 5 was reasonable, but after nearly 5 hours of snail's pace tedium, the only story has been Picard shagged Crusher and got her pregnant 20+ years ago, and the Changelings have infiltrated Starfleet. Ron Moore would've had all this down to 44 minutes of screen time.

We beg them to stay true to the spirit of these franchises. But the moment one of them has the balls to actually talk to us, they refuse to acknowledge ANY bad they or others have done. Even when we are fangirling over them on the show.
      Terry seems like a decent person, but he is blind to what is happening. He is in complete denial of how we, the fans, have been treated. He is still entrenched in the identity politics that his colleagues have infused into our loves. The only difference between him and the people who wrote discovery is that he understands story.
      Picard Season 3 is more than likely the LAST bit of good ST that we have coming. They will not learn from this, they will not care about this. They will get some money from it, gain some rep for it, and then continue to destroy any good thing that has been.

      Yea, but remember that the only reason it's now back to "everyone" is because their attempt at excluding more than 50% of their viewing audience in the past few years has failed and has caused them to backtrack to the normal and sensible audience that was always faithful to the franchise and has carried it for decades. They need the audience they've alienated for years.

  • @LazarusRemains
    @LazarusRemains Год назад +28

    I love what Terry has done; season 3 means more to me than I can ever express. It's just that sometimes being diplomatic is not neccecarily the most moral position. The fact is, many of the fanbase, myself included, were gaslit and bullied by the Discovery "fandom", and the show itself ultimatly encouraged terrible morals. I didn't show anyone less than my full kindness, but was, amongst other things, accused of being an '[identity X, Y, Z]phobe', something I had not the slightest shade of, simply for critiquing Discovery's logic, and attacked by supposed fans; hardly adherants of Star Trek's humane vision. The show itself had a tone of cruelty; seemly revelling in suffering and humiliation. Post-modern cynicism, is how it ultimatly came off; they encouraged an amoral vision, and amoral behavior.
    50 years of fandom was rewarded this way; derision. Then predictably DSC lost it's superficial mercurial audience; leaving a wasteland of wounded fans, bitter at how they had been treated, and a wreaked continuity. Anyone could have seen that coming.
    I hope Terry is playing his cards close to his chest, because I don't think that DSC's tone was an equal and valid vision of Star Trek. It came off to everybody I know, more like a 'hijacking' in bad faith. Good taste is not relative; but perhaps he must say so.

    Let's put this in a language that a Hollywood exec can understand: You can either make Trek that people will watch and spend money on or the kind of Trek that very few people will see and won't spend much if any money on. Look at the numbers and decide. You are not going to make everyone happy. That's impossible. You can, however, decide if you're going to be profitable or not and to what degree. I'm just happy to see some of my favorite creators like RLM share their enthusiasm for an IP again, Seasons 1 and 2 basically betrayed a lot of the deep level fans of the original TNG series. I'm a casual fan but even I could see that these characters weren't were they should've been if they followed and respected their own prior lore. If you watch that last episode of the Picard review season 2 from RLM, you can hear the pain in Mikes voice, whom is one of the biggest fans, express his displeasure with what the new show had done to his beloved characters. So for this season 3, it gives us hope that things can turn around and once again become the things we enjoyed and brought us together. I for one am happy that if this is indeed the final season at least it ends on a high note than going out on a whimper.

    Terry completely ignored the idea of Kurtzman Trek being a dream. To be honest it probably would have been a good idea to go that way since Season 3 of Picard can't even fix what Kurtzman Trek has done to the franchise history. All of modern Star Trek needs to be put in its own universe, it's as simple as that.

    Did anyone know the Changelling in episode 3 that got interogated by Rafi was played by the same actor that played one of Captain Picards kids in Generaions from the Nexus so there are a lot of actors that have been recalled from playing in previous episodes many many years ago which is i think is a throwback to how things have gone back to them times and tones 😊

    I think it should be noted that Riker’s conservative approach to dealing with the shrike isn’t a massive shift from what he was like in TNG. In BOBW part 1 Shelby criticizes him for playing it safe and he responds that when it comes to the ship and the crew he does play it safe. When faced with overwhelming odds Riker’s initial approach is to be careful, likely something he’s learned as Picard’s first officer.

    it makes sense that the klingon cloak from undiscovered country wasnt used again, considering the fact that they found a pretty glaring weakspot in its design ended up what won the enterprise the battle. so whats the point of outfitting all your ships with it, when it makes your ship more vulnerable than a regular cloak?

    • @grahamstrouse1165
      @grahamstrouse1165 Год назад +1

      Very good point! Chang’s cloak is really only useful if you know you’re going to get a one-shot kill or are in a position to shoot & scoot. Otherwise you get one shot off & your opponent, assuming he survives, can fix your position with technology which, in the show’s current setting, is almost a century old! 🙂

    Congratulations on a fantastic livestream guys. What an amazing coup in getting Terry Matalas on for an hour. I feared the more RUclipsrs came in and with respectful grace, veered the subject into areas that he absolutely wasn't comfortable with, I really thought he was gonna bounce. But the debating skills on some of the guys on the top rows especially got him back on the rails and keep it Picard Season 3 centric. Terry was never going to rip on previous terrible Star Trek shows of the last 6 years, certainly not on live air anyway. Thanks again Terry for this brilliant third season and well done Popcast Unleashed 👍

    Wow, great podcast! I agree with everyone on the panel Star Trek Picard season 3 is the best season so far, I feel the TNG vibe just seeing with the legendary like Picard, Riker, Crusher and Worf and that is only those we see for the moment there are still other episodes to see the other characters like Geordi Laforge, Deanna Troi and others. I agree with Robert Meyer Burnett TNG season 3 started being the best when Michael Piller came along, and I also noticed DS9 season 3 started being more interesting when Ira Steven Behr and Ronald D. Moore were the main writers behind the Dominion Wars story arc and season 4 when Worf came in DS9 during The Way of the Warrior episode, I don't understand why Paramount doesn't hire Ira Steven Behr or Ronald D. Moore again, they are very talented writers instead of incompetent ones for Star Trek Discovery that make me cringe. I've been a TNG fan since the 90s and still am today and the story and visuals of the Star Trek DS9 with Dominion War is worthy of a great epic space combat movie almost better than Star Wars when we visually watch the confrontation and the number of Dominions and Federation alliance ships clashing with each other when the first time I saw the scene my jaw dropped. I love all the cast of TNG especially Patrick Stewart, Michael Dorn my Klingon favorite also I like Jonathan Frakes is a also a good director when he does Star Trek First Contact movie it was so good.

    Can't we say that STD, SNW, Picard S1 & S2 and the animated shows are all in one timeline, the JJverse is its own second timeline, and all the rest of STAR TREK (including Picard S3) take place in the original timeline? It would allow everyone to have their own Trek simultaneously, while explaining the vast discrepancies of modern "NuTrek" and the main continuity we have been watching for 50 years.

    • @-M0LE

      I agree except leave Picard season 3 in that JJ timeline

    In Season 3 Ep.3, Worf mentions that after the dominion war there was a Schisim. In the TNG there is an episode in season 6 called Schisim. In it, some of the crew are being abducted by aliens. The aliens look and sound similar to the alien species on the ship with Vadic. Are they the same species? Haven't seen anyone mention this likeness. I wonder are they the same.
