@@EmoTheElephant I mean the reason there is such a market for this junk in US is that our health care"system" is so broken and corrupt that people don't trust it and instead try to find solutions for themselves, winding up drinking bog dirt. For example the whole oxycontin thing. The Tuskegee experiments. The profit motive behind insurance and all of US health care that functions solely to put as many billable items on your tab every time you even look at a hospital. Many hospitals have rebranded routine birthing services as emergency care in order to up charge for them during typical, healthy vaginal births. The problem is too many American doctors are about as trustworthy as your typical MLM and the likelihood of being scammed by a doctor or hospital is close to that of being scammed by an MLM supplement company. 'Merica fugchk yeah!
This is basically the MLM version of the bully in the school yard forcing the weird kid to eat dirt in a way to trick them into believing that they’ll end up being one of the “cool kids” only to get mocked by a crowd of laughing and disgusted preteens.
Ok, I know I’m officially a crazy person for commenting 3x on one video...but the arthritis part makes me furious too. I have RA and the number of people who have used that as a reason to give me their sales pitch is infuriating. 😡
That’s how all of these businesses work. Go through people that may be vulnerable or desperate. Sadly modern medicine hasn’t found a cure for many things, and this is exactly where these scummy people target
100% agree. I have RA, as well, and as soon as I was diagnosed, people came out of the woodwork to tell me what to do instead of going to a Rheumy and getting on meds. People getting really personal about my choices and how the "chemotherapy drugs" the doctors were going to put me on were going to ruin me. Meanwhile, I literally could not get dressed in anything that required buttoning buttons, pulling up zippers, or lacing shoes. I couldn't turn a doorknob. And, to be perfectly frank, it was hard for me to go to the toilet by myself. I was terrified that my life as an independent human being was over at what should have been the peak of my life. And I'm savvy; I have an advanced degree in biology, I can actually read and understand the research--but these so-called "helpful people" had me in such a state of anxiety. I cannot imagine what it must be like for people who don't have the ability, time, resources, whatever, to read and understand what the literature says to cope with these not-so-helpful people. Anyway, now I'm on the "chemotherapy drugs" and (for what anecdotal evidence is worth) rather than ruining me, I can get dressed, open doors, and go to the loo all by myself again. Heck, I went for a 3-mile walk yesterday. Thanks, Big Pharma!
I get you, Emma. They make my blood boil too. My partner has kidney disease and recently had to go back on dialysis (his kidney transplant is failing). I have asthma. Keeping the hell away from anywhere that we could possibly catch Covid is a high priority for us and it just frustrates and angers me so much to see how little ppl care about others. If it doesn't affect them personally, they don't care.
the other thing chelation is useful for: ingestion of radioactive materials, because those are also heavy metals, usually. commonly used for that is prussian blue, the pigment. also, the chelation agent doesn't care whether the metal it binds to is useful or not. you will lose iron, copper, selenium, etc. chelation is a this or die kind of process and not to be taken lightly.
There's so much in modern medicine which is "do this or die". My mom was stuck in hospital for 18 days getting her immune system nuked into a low earth orbit, all with the knowledge that if she didn't, she'd be dead within a year. Now she's looking at another decade at least. A lot of treatments are terrible, but they work, and the alternative is objectively worse, so we do them.
most of those minerals would be found in a balanced diet or maybe taking a multi vitamin if recommended to do so by your Dr. or other trusted medical professional I used to be iron deficient when I was younger due to leaching it as a result of a clotting disorder so was recommended to take a multi vitamin for that

I could see it. It's possible to sustainably harvest peat, it's just super expensive, and you don't get much yield at all, which is why essentially no one does it. But if you are charging 100 dollars for 30 capsules, you probably can spend 100x as much on harvesting. Then again, MLMs aren't known for their truth in marketing...

That’s absolutely insane. They don’t need to cost more then $2-3 for generic vitamins. Makes sense though because if you guys were healthy how could they make money
@@Bringon-dw8dx It's weird, because at a discount drug store you can get 90 multi vitamin tablets for $15 and the generic grocery stores sell the same 90 tablets for just under $4, vitamin C for $3. Reason for the price difference: people feel that more expensive = better. It doesn't even matter if they know that the ratios and amounts are the exact same and according to multiple studies they're equal in every aspect except for the packaging and pricing. So they do their groceries, ignore the vitamins, and then go to a different store to specifically pay ~4 times as much for the same thing so it has a bigger placebo effect, knowing that that is the only difference, and knowing they're encouraging useless placebos that inflates prices, ignoring that that makes life harder for people who have less income and making it socially acceptable that money buys better placebos when the best placebos are for free: friends, having fun, sex, taking a walk(or lie in a bed on wheels and have someone push you down the street for all I care), talking to an understanding professional. All of those things have all kinds of side effects you can actually measure and are great. It's like drinking water when you're thirsty from eating something salty and then thinking it tastes better than ever and having the pleasant side effect of not dying of dehydration or bleeding to death as a result of high blood pressure. It's amazing! Other people are like, when I need comfort I pray to a god. Well, that sound fucking lonely and pathetic to me, offence intended and I'll gladly come kick you when you're down to teach you to rely on more effective placebos that have actual benefits you can fucking confirm to exist that will also make it kind of impossible for me to have any effect when I try to kick you when you're down because you won't give a fuck because you know you can rely on real existing things that will always be there even when you're out of the running. So yeah, as you might have noticed I'm sometimes* slightly* annoyed by people's tendency to justify demonstrably harmful behaviour with dumb shit like: but it comforts [whatever person] personally. [whatever person] can go fuck themselves - I care about more than one person and I care about building a sustainable foundation for us and future generations and it's not even helping that specific person in the long run and even if they fucking die on the spot, they will always be the person who was a shit example for how to deal with actual reality. Hey Emma, first of all, I really like your channel, great work! Second, just something I noticed that you might consider: since you started using the ring light you're often over-exposed, you can notice it in this video where often your nose, due to your generally very pale complexion ends up being 'burnt' by the light (so white it loses all detail). Perhaps some fiddling with the intensity of the lamp or how near it sits to you might help. Keep up the great work ♥ Edit - As for the bog dirt, it just feels pretty insane to me, but the thing that is kind of the most on point was the way that person/rep at the end made fun of those falling for other kind of nonsense. It reminded me of Jim Jefferies' short skeet from his tv show where he confronts conspiracy theorists of different kind and it becomes hilarious when they start scoffing at each other when one or the other exposes a type of nonsense they don't agree with. Highly recommended if you haven't watched it

It can be really rough some days.
Edit: thank you for the videos!!! I very much enjoy your content, the comment below is just a little added context for the weird arthritis post. Generational curses and referring to the Devil as the enemy is a hallmark of american Christian fundamentalist patterns of speech. Another custom of american Christian fundamentalism? The laying on of hands [basically believing certain members of a congregation have the "gift" of healing and can heal people of anything and everything simply by putting their hands on someone]. Not exactly the same as believing in Dirt but it's a belief reinforced by American Christian Fundamentalist ideology.
Sorry for the long random comment, I just grew up in a very fundie area (Texas) and I am unfortunately *very* familiar with how they talk. I lost an aunt many years ago to heavy metal poisoning. She had been treated very aggressively for arthritis with medicine containing gold salts. This didn’t cure her debilitating arthritis but it did result in poisoning from the gold. She was deathly ill for about six months before the gold finally killed her and the treatments were really painful and made her bedridden.
The frustrating thing with "see you doctor, don't go behind their back" at least in the US, is that 20% don't have doctors. and 40% haven't seen their doctor in the last 12 months. All because they can't afford it, or there just aren't enough. A lot of the MLM health&wellness prevalence in the US feels like it's because there isn't socialized medicine / ease of medical professional access.
Most of the materials u supposably getting from Boo/ eating dirt u can get from a balance diet and supplements. I have an allergy to sunlight one top of arthritis. Instead of taking Boo I went to my doctor who told me to take a supplement since I can't get out in the sun as well as try to get more exercise to help my arthritis since moving around helps arthritis
If I were a billionaire with an incredible grudge against MLMs, I'd start a company that explicitly makes generic knock-offs of all this expensive wellness crap and sells them at a loss. Well, the ones that aren't harmful, at least.
Years ago, I watched an engineer debunk an energy saving device. This device was claimed to massively reduce your electricity bills if you just plug it in. It didn’t really work for home use, but he noted that people who used it would probably be in a frame of mind to look at ways of reducing their electricity usage (switching stuff off etc) so it might appear the devices work. I think this could be the same thing, People will buy this dirt hoping to feel better. Because they want to feel better, they might look at ways they can improve their own health. If they find some, they may think the dirt worked.
My gawd....I've been foolishly putting my homemade compost into my garden for the past 20 years, when I could have been selling it for half a million per shovelful!
One of the new episodes of Leverage has a villan clearly inspired by real life MLM celebrities. The villan is well done showing how exploitative, manipulative, and opertunistic such celebrities are. I was excited to see such a villan in a popular series as I hope it spreads awareness about such evil tomfoolery.
I feel like I’m missing out by using the contents of my compost bin to fertilize soil and help grow vegetables. I should be scooping it into jars and selling it! Best of all, my compost is made with a significant quantity of coffee grounds already.

Dollar stores (here in the U.S.) do carry small bottles of vitimns for $1. But I would NEVER buy them. Supplements are so poorly regulated here that I only purchase vitamins that have been independently tested.
@@sarahl2405 damn the more I hear about America the scarier it becomes D:
@@EmoTheElephant It only gets scarier 😬
"That should never be a price. That should only be a year." LOL!
This is basically the MLM version of the bully in the school yard forcing the weird kid to eat dirt in a way to trick them into believing that they’ll end up being one of the “cool kids” only to get mocked by a crowd of laughing and disgusted preteens.
I feel like 'rich in trace' is an oxymoron.
Hahahaha It’s “tracier” than other supplements.
Just pretend you're participating in a live chat. That's what I do.
Selling dirt as irrealistically high prices health product? I believe that qualifies for an evil genius title.
If it doesn't affect them personally, they don't care.
the other thing chelation is useful for:
ingestion of radioactive materials, because those are also heavy metals, usually.
commonly used for that is prussian blue, the pigment.
also, the chelation agent doesn't care whether the metal it binds to is useful or not. you will lose iron, copper, selenium, etc.
chelation is a this or die kind of process and not to be taken lightly.
There's so much in modern medicine which is "do this or die". My mom was stuck in hospital for 18 days getting her immune system nuked into a low earth orbit, all with the knowledge that if she didn't, she'd be dead within a year. Now she's looking at another decade at least.
A lot of treatments are terrible, but they work, and the alternative is objectively worse, so we do them.
most of those minerals would be found in a balanced diet or maybe taking a multi vitamin if recommended to do so by your Dr. or other trusted medical professional I used to be iron deficient when I was younger due to leaching it as a result of a clotting disorder so was recommended to take a multi vitamin for that
I never thought I'd live long enough to see someone make a video begging adults to not eat dirt. Kinda I wishing that I hadn't.
Dirt eating, urine therapy, breatherianism, what's next in alternative medicine? I hope nothing but that's just my naivety being optimistic.

I was with my dad when a parent saw a child eating dirt and said, "they must be lacking something" to which dad responded.
"Yeah, supervision".
I mean the idea isnt wrong, some conditions like Pica are believed to be caused by the body thinking its lacking in nutrients, this coupled with mental instability leads to eating non food items like light bulbs or in one pica sufferers case a plane.

I wonder how sustainable their harvesting truly is, because as far as I know, peat bogs are endangered ecosystems.
Assuming its even bog dirt, and not just, whatever dirt they have near their hq

Also, chelation therapy is no joke as there are lots of possible negative side effects. The idea that anyone suggests it as a diet fad is just upsetting and dangerous… UGH! [shakes fist at sky]
I get supplements at Costco for anywhere from $10 for a six month supply to $30 for a one month supply, depending on the supplement. Do you want to know what is sick and twisted, though? When I was diagnosed with epilepsy I was desperate and frantic to find anything that might help. I tried bentonite clay after reading all about how amazing it is and how it can cure things. Walmart Multivitamins are $7 online
What a legacy.

It reminded me of Jim Jefferies' short skeet from his tv show where he confronts conspiracy theorists of different kind and it becomes hilarious when they start scoffing at each other when one or the other exposes a type of nonsense they don't agree with. Highly recommended if you haven't watched it

This didn’t cure her debilitating arthritis but it did result in poisoning from the gold.
