I saw a post on Facebook where an Empire player who was already aware that Empire Handgunners and the like can shoot over dwarf allies, had a firing line of Irondrakes in front with Empire Handgunners right behind and they were all able to shoot the same target. It looked insane.
you can also equip a rune of burning on any of the war machines for extra toasting and if i'm not mistaken the rune of wrath and ruin also does fire damage
I love dwarfs and irondrakes, now that I've seen flamers of tzeentch I know what irondrakes were supposed to be. Many base game units are lacking flare.

I've found two flame cannons, three ironbreakers, 3-4 irondrakes and some quarrellers or thunderers will melt any army with lots of melee infantry so fast you will often get 0 deaths. I've destroyed even much more powerful lizardmen armies by including a few Brimstone guns and a gyrobomber. Replace one with a dragon for flavor
@@Acme1970 They are shorter Rannge so near the front but behind infantry. I like them centered behind some irondrakes. With ironbreakers on either side of the drakes to move forward to avoid the drakes or canons getting pinned down in melee
@@Acme1970 It's been so much fun I've built every army like that. Some allied stegadons or tanks help against slaanesh and cavalry armies. Rockets are good too. One dragon is great too. I got one Army to have flame cannons doing 1.6k. bring an engineer to resupply and you can really cheese siege battles. Theres also not much more satisfying than watching your cannons slaughter hundreds of units each then watching the remaining units run into a bunch of flamethrowers and just melt. Its my longest campaign yet by far, playing thorek. It just doesn't stop being fun to watch
Seems like fun indeed, but commiting up to 6 units to fighting a single large enemy? I think a single unit of Trollhammer Torpedos would be much better value there.
if the unit is a vampire lord (undead are super weak to losing their leader), or sething super dangerous like Skarbrand, then it os absolutely worth it. also remember this units barely lose any value afternusing this tactic. one you toasted the giant/daemon/dragon/dino, you still have a runelord, a thane, and all those missiles to use. The slayers are probably the ones who suffer the most from this tradeoff
You can also try to recruit some Irondrakes into a Gelt Army, use a fire Wizard as Debuff and see them heretics burn + (-60) Armor from Gelt which cost like 2 Winds of Magic

Thanes can get like 160%fire resist, against literally any short ranged/melee ai army, 3thanes, an engineer, any runelord 3units of cannons/flame cannons, and the rest irondrakes, ~400 dwarves incinerated around 8000 vampires without taking a single loss, and some of the Thanes didn't even take damage
If you wanted to go one further, mix all this stuff with Ulthar's Raiders which can take off another 30 armour as well as any missile resistance using Marked by Ulthar.

Beside, the good thing about this tactics is that flame units like flame cannons and irondrakes are great against common troups anyway, if you don't need to kill a big target, they will roast something else. I'm usually not a fan of very specific combo of units, but this is legit imo.
I've fallen in love with Grombrindal for the buffs he gives to his army, and Irondrakes specifically. Irondrakes have a base speed of 26, but with Grombrindals +35% speed army buff, +15% speed to missile infantry from master engineer, +20% speed from banner (or unit rune), and the extra speed from rune caster rune, I've seen Irondrakes zooming along at 60-65.
Same effect in campaign if you select the "Ironbeard" skill in your Thane, that way you don't need the Slayers (I like to put them in Ungrim's army and use Grombrindal for this type of Hellfire Army (White Dwarf has bonuses with Irondrakes and Ironbreakers, think also with Fire Canons))
unless a lot has changed from II to III, those fire units are designed to do AoE vs infantry if you want to blow stuff up like that, just take Thunderers and Organ Guns? Cheaper, faster to get, way more range, far more reliable, and less likely to kill your own army + actually able to take out single entities lol i like 2 x Irondrakes darting between Longbeards, with a line of thunders and a few organ guns with a support engineer, and a how ever many melee heroes you can manage up front
Small math point: Fire damage in this situation isn't boosted by 40%. Fire resistance is reduced by 40%. If you reduce a resistance by 50%, you'd double the incoming damage. So fire damage is boosted by a lot more than 40%.
Doesn't work like that in this game. If the target has a baseline of 0% fire resistance, giving them +40% fire weakness is exactly boosting the damage output of the fire damage by 40%. The distinction with the wording is important. Resistance can only ever be 0% or above, so -40% resistance would always only reduce fire resistance to 0% at best. But +40% fire weakness will effectively give the target -40% fire resistance if it was at 0% reistance previously. What you said only applies if the target has some baseline fire resistance
Honestly, it seems to be an overcommitment, at least as far as very hard/very hard campaign is considered, but ive never considered using the fire weakness item on thane, such one guy to hold off any unit and the iron drakes to support him and melt a flank may be a pretty good adition to the army
I just use the Slayer king as my monster melter when playing as the Dwarfs. Boost his bonuses against large enemies with runic items, unlock a few skills which do the same, and he kills everything. Of course he can only be in one army at a time, so I will probably need these tactics later on in my Dawi campaigns anyways. Thanks!
How high is the risk of friendly fire in these situations? 2:40 I would have never thought of using a flamethrower in such manner because I was afraid they'd aim low and burn my own boys. Are units consistently aiming at large unit's torso~ height to avoid friendly fire when the enemy should be surrounded by only small allied units?
Except that 1, that's not true, trollhammer are great, but you are not gonna delete skarbrand in 2 volley, and 2, these units are still very relevant when there is no major priority targets and also assume a classic role on the battlefield.

Tried that in TWWH2 with the oakgold cheese since there are some other items, helpinng a fire-based theme. but i thought its not that good. The Slayers slipped my mind tho. Maybe i give it another shot

Can you guys explain to me how magical and flame attacks work? Do they ignore the armour or cause extra damage, but the more armoured the foe is the better protection he gets even agains magical attacks?

I played along campaign with the Dwarves back in Warhammer 1, and I thought they were rather under-powered. Then I started playing campaigns where I was fighting Dwarves, and they didn't seem so underpowered anymore.
In this video: Watch as I take 6 units against 1 and kill single entities in almost twice the time as 3 units of thunderers! Your videos are normally good, but this just feels like algorithm fodder.

In Campaign, you can also pop a Banner of Eternal Flame on the Slayers and then they get flaming attacks. Boom, GG!

Often that's the best strategy. Focused fire in a sharp point can do way more damage quickly than wide chip damage

My ideal doom stack would be imrik, fire mage, 2 hell storms, 2 iron drakes 4- 2 dragons and the rest sisters. Good god the fire damage

Magic and flame attacks just interact with weaknesses and resistances, they don't do more damage or bypass armor by themselves

I don't remember, does Ku'gath have regeneration (with the associated fire weakness)..?
Regen brings fire weakness by default, hunger is the better regen since it doesn't give you fire weakness.
Bringing big monsters vs dwarfs is high risk choice!
