This week is te wiki o te reo Maori, or Maori language week. So, for those who have ever wondered, the intro i say is Kia ora koutou, which is in te reo Maori on of the official languages of Aotearoa/New Zealand. It simply means "hi all", as kia ora means "hi" as well as "yep", and koutou is a suffix you use to show you are talking to a big group.
So to say hi to one person, say "kia ora"
To say hi to two people, say "kia ora ko rua"
and hi to a group "kia ora koutou"
Arohanui (much love) to everyone out there :)
You have no long how many vids of yours I watched before I figured that out! Lol
Ha, fair, it's commonly used here and basically nowhere else :)
Gods, I love this game so much. I'm completely addicted to it and teach it to everyone I can, but I've never once won it. My problem is that I live in California, a state with a ton of computer programmers and computer analysts, and they utterly destroy me at this every single game. It's positively an education to watch them play this. :-D
I can totally see this going off with programmers
I have this game and somehow also a "lost cards" expansion pack, which gives us additional Tier III Upgrade Cards
While i think Gizmos is probably the superior game, in terms of gameplay to potion explosion, i probably dig potion explosion more because its sillier. Gizmos is a very good game though and i'm keeping it in the collection. Its a good time. Which of these two similar titles do you prefer?

I like potion explosion at two or three players, and would only play with four or five players if I knew everyone could take relatively fast turns. Since the marble dispenser changes more radically at higher player counts, I feel it's more prone to analysis paralysis than Gizmos, which feels much faster and works relatively well at all counts. Gizmos also has combo-chaining satisfaction.
That said, I'm with you in that I like both a lot, but prefer potion explosion more. Mainly, I feel there's more decision space in PE plus it has an expansion for some added variety. Also, you interact with more marbles and more frequently haha. I'd say Gizmos is my go to if I'm playing with new gamers or need something light and fast with depth, and then move on to PE if player experience and time permits.
Potion Explosion is fun with younger players (something I do more of) becauae of the silly factor and colors, but I really like the sound of Gizmo's as I find games where the complexity comes from learning combinations have much more satisfying learning curve! So games where this is true but are also tactile (very important for kinesthetic learners 😄) are a hit here.
Yeah Amie. For me, it just makes it feel more like "play" as well, which i dig
The thing I run into with PE a lot is that all of the players have to be of relatively equal skill with it, or the more experienced players will just wipe the floor with the newer players. "Ah," you say, "is that not all games?" And yes, there's definitely a good amount of truth to that, but where PE differs is that the experienced players that preceed the turn of new players start to *cause* the new player to play badly because they're wiping out the good opportunities for scoring for the new player, the new player doesn't have enough experience to cope with this, and plays more poorly than they otherwise would if they were following the turn of another new player instead. So I find that PE competency builds very slowly in these situations.
Gizmos has new players issues of its own, but definitely not that one, since every turn tends to start out on equal footing as each player is best served specializing in things that the other players aren't doing and competency builds much faster. So I personally like Gizmos more than PE (even though I win PE a hell of a lot more :-D ).
Phil Walker Harding is my favourite designer of light games. I've only played this once. I probably prefer it to Potion Explosion, as I'm a sucker for engine building, but they are both great fillers.
I've played sushi go and Imhotep and those are both excellent lighter games
Grand video as always. Only played this once at a con and it really didn’t click for me. I would like to give it another go 😃
Amazing ..
+1 to engagement metrics
Great game. Could do with an expansion though.
True, lots of scope for it too.
I emailed the designer and he said one was in the works.
It really seems like a game with infinite expandability. Just add some more gizmos to the pile.
I also think this game is ripe for a "variable player power" expansion.
really found this game unspecial. It's like Splendor, except your resources can roll off the table and bounce all around the room.
Only if you are a bit of a klutz, lol.
@@3MBG happens to me or one of my friends at least once a game 😂
I don't like it, Never managed to beat my friends on this game 😂
But seriously its a fun one 👍
