We were playing this game when our disk drive overheated! Felt so sad as a 5 year old thinking we would never have a computer again. My mom's friend fixed it for us and we added a little fan to the drive so it wouldn't happen again, haha

I reckon this has to be my favourite overall C64 soundtrack. Every song is just shit-your-pants amazing. And whoever did this LP, you have some mad skills. This game was fucking hard!

4:29 The glitch I always used on the flying horse armor stage was to hold down and left. For whatever reason, nothing will hit Dirk when he's in that lower corner.
I love the flying horse song.. you could hear a voice-like "la la la". It stuck with me all these years. Thanks for posting it! It reminds me of the c64 batman song a little. My favorite was the c64 altered beast title screen song. I used to blast it!

The music in this is crazy awesome, especially the Lizard King board. And the rooms where they keep changing all these different colors..... I think someone was on some funny stuff when making this :)
My father had a C64 we would play when I visited him on weekends. One day the C64 was loading and I asked my father what "STAND BY" meant. He goes "oh yeah if you get up and stand by the screen it'll load faster". I got up and stood by the screen.
I realised that at 27 I currently feel way too old for the internet, considering some of the fatheaded kids also occupying this space. So I came to a video where I could forget about today and pretend I'm 6 again. :3

I hated that fucking "boulder" phase. It looked like Dirk ran into a 70's Disco hall. And I could never tell where he was in relation to the balls. It's nice that I finally get to see what was past that.

I remember writing down all the moves you have to do in the levels where you have to press right, up, down etc, I finally completed this game back then after many trials and errors, though I never managed to complete the first game.

I never managed to beat the first Dragon's Lair without cheating with Retro Replay almost two decades later. I always died on the second last level. But this second one I managed to beat. Good times. :)
I seem to remember that you could cheat on the screen at 4:50 by holding the joystick all the way left or right (all of the objects would miss you). But my memory is foggy, so I may be thinking of another game.
That's right, around 1:14 there's a real SID power :) 3.28 too, like David Whittaker's Menace or Armageddon Man :} . P.S. music from Terra Cresta and Slaine are one of my favs, of course there's a lot more, Supremacy, Thundercats, etc. etc. etc.
I had this game but i think it was broken, in the first lvl i could get through the left and right ways,, but when ever it came to the middle the boat always hit the rocks without fail.
@Mogart81 listen to that song on the 8580 SID (new) as opposed to the 6561 SID (old) that is used here. Believe me its 2X better. Most SID players and C64 emulators are programmed to use the 6561 SID as it is usually better. This is one of a few games were the 8580 SID is superior.

first part is mostly reactions. And the whirlpool part when you realise you can push up or down to change speed of the boat it becomes fairly easy.
There use to be a glitch in the screen with the flying horse.. if I recall you could set Dirk to the far left and let him there unharmed ...
i really don't like this game, but i have to admit that it's got brilliant music, especially on the boulder level :3
