That was one of the best walkthroughs for this game I have ever seen/heard. Thank you for making this. Mafiul's explanations of the tactics and game mechanics was masterful. Thanks for this! I will also follow his channel.

@@LegendaryTactics well, so good, that I am about to give up playing with “casual” partners. I mean those who’ve played several games but never cared about strategies.
Last game I scored 145 against a second place guy who scored something like 105 (with 4-5 games experience).
Now seems like I will be looking for someone feeling confident about the game, not just “for fun” player.
(I’m not leaning towards trying the digital version though)

Thank you so much for this wonderful video!!
I especially liked the fact that not everything went according to plan
I was really surprised by the amount of coal industries that Mafiul built - this was very situational, and that's what made it a very good example to learn from (what to do in special cases like this one)
    Fantastic commentary!!
Thank you guys so much :)

@MafiulRobin Great explainer video, loved it! Just curious, what would have been your move if you did not draw the Birmingham/ iron industry card in round 3? Scout and then build iron in Birmingham?

It would be nice to see a video like this against competent opponents rather than very inexperienced ones that are functionally no different from playing bots.
A few comments: the opening Redditch move by red was actually fine if it was done by someone experienced. Presumably someone would do that if they held Birmingham to save an action; worst case scenario they have to eventually connect Birmingham themselves.
Your initial canal to Birmingham was a bad play that you got lucky in by top decking the card you needed, which statistically wouldn't happen often, especially if red was indeed holding Brimingham. I would consider that on average a wasted action and not something that's a good idea.
You also drop more beers than you could flip or use immediately at the start of rail. Against more savvy opponents, they would steal you beer at the start of rail for as much as a -12 VP swing! That actually just happened in the last game I played, and it was more than the difference between 1st and 2nd place. That's a very easy way to hand skilled players the game.
Lastly, your insistence on getting a very specific strategy out in canal left you with significant money issues going into rail. This means you ordinarily would struggle to pay for beer + double rail actions and would get outpaced by your opponents that are doing the same thing. Often taking loans rather than forcing a second level II crate + canal is a stronger play and ends up getting you a positive benefit over forcing that second crate.
Fortunately for you, you could get away with a lot of this against clearly inexperienced players, but those are the kinds of mistakes that will often cost you against an experienced table.

Hello PRJ_TV, Thank you for commenting again on our another Brass video. I'm interested to bring gameplay with more high-level players' in the future.
I strongly think opening Redditch's move was not good because they blocked their network expansion for some time. Previously, we published the ultimate strategy guide to play 3-4 player games and set some priorities. According to our scripted strategy guide, it is very important to always have the flexibility to be able to make Iron, thus having links near Birmingham is very crucial. When someone connects Birmingham, they are supposed to make iron there immediately and later will make links to nearby three places and keep making irons easily.
My initial canal to Birmingham was the best play of that moment. There was not a single other better action available considering what cards I had and also for the overall game plan.
I made more beer in Canal than I need to secure beer points for myself in the Rail era without spending an action and if do not get a beer card in Rail or if someone else capture beer places before me. Also denying opponents' beer place in Canal and Rail. It is the right thing to do at any skill level game in this kind of scenario.
Lastly, this scripted strategy is the most effective way to get the most victory point in 3-4 player games. The strategy is a little different for two players game. We have it all explained in our ultimate strategy guide video. I am assuring everyone from the experience of more than four hundred games and winning some tournaments.
I would like to welcome everyone to join Brass Birmingham Discord (link mentioned in the description) and play with us and test all strategies.

As I said, you're getting away with these inefficiencies because your opponents are bad. The Redditch play is clearly fine if they had a Birmingham card - you built the link for them! That's an action saved, whereas it's potentially an action lost for you if you hadn't immediately (and luckily!) drawn Birmingham.
I won't really get into the rest because it seems you're just talking past me rather than actually paying attention to what I'm saying. The Redditch example is very clear cut, though, so it seems weird to defend it.
I would you encourage you to seek out more skilled opponents (especially anyone who used to compete at Lancashire on order of the hammer before it shut down) - they will help you see the game from new angles and force you to understand the shared incentives at a deeper level. This kind of play will work fine when your opponents are not very skilled but against a table full of experienced players it will start to show weaknesses.

Dear @@prj_tv2612, once again thank you for your comments and time. Every question helps us make the strategy guide more accessible to everyone. Deeply regret if I'm not successfully explaining the logic behind our strategy to you. Perhaps it is a very hard thing to do in comments but I can assure you and everyone this scripted strategy and these actions are the most consistent way of winning. It is proven against more than a hundred players in more than four hundred games including very experienced players in tournament finals. May I request you to schedule some TTS BRASS over Brass Birmingham Discord, we can discuss more on the game table. Nothing is more fun than playing a favorite game and talking about it.

@@prj_tv2612 These opponents are bad but Mafiul has played against the best of the best and performed at the highest level. Me, potae, knight, Tiny etc. We are at over 400 plays and counting. Can you say how many you have? There is still much to learn that will only come with experience. We would invite you to play us any time, and show us how your ideas work in action. Until then, perhaps you should give your Dunning Kruger nonsense a rest.

    • @prj_tv2612

@@armyguy196 it would be much more beneficial if one of those games were posted instead then.
I've seen many of the games posted from the discord channel and I think they all tend to suffer from falling into a local minimum, strategically speaking. It makes no sense for everyone to pursue the same strategy and the game design doesn't really support it. A lot of them also involve people making very questionable strategic decisions (multiple level II cotton being played, for instance, or multiple people competing over cotton) that can affect everyone else at the table very heavily.
As for number of games, I've played enough (several hundred). It's important to understand sheer quantity of games is not very important, especially in a game with a shared-incentives where it's easy to fall into groupthink and not be able to get out of it. Quality of games and opponents, as well as careful analysis is almost always better than sheer quantity. One of the reasons I bring up the point about Redditch here is that it doesn't rely on outside context or an appeal to authority - Mafiul's analysis on the face of it is just not correct.
Good news is that I'm looking to record a discussion over one of my group's games that goes over more advanced play that takes more cues from tournament Lancashire play and builds upon the natural evolution of strategies discussed here - most importantly: "what if everyone at the table attempts this strategy (beer, iron, lvl II crates)"?

The pottery was not a great move or was it? It costs two actions to build and sell which is not that bad but it allowed the other player to build four links with your beer.
