- How profitable is a cleaning service business-and how do you know if it’s the right business for you? We set out to answer those questions in today’s interview with Austin Miller, owner of the cleaning business start up Spruse Clean.
Austin started Spruse Clean to make extra income while he was out of work. Less than 3 years later, it’s grown into a $750K/year cleaning company, with a client list that includes CEOs and professional athletes.
In that time Spruse Clean has grown in scope as well as revenue, with locations in 2 states and plans to launch a line of eco-friendly cleaning products in the near future.
If you’ve ever wondered how to start a cleaning business, you’ll want to watch this video. We’ll find out how much it cost Austin to get started, how he maintains steady revenue growth, and the secret behind building an impressive client list in such a short timespan.
One key to Spruse Clean’s success is the quality of their service. They’ve broken records on Yelp! for their number of positive reviews in a quick time span. We’ll find out how Austin keeps his customers happy, and how that positive feedback has helped grow his business.
He’ll also share the biggest challenges of running a cleaning service business and his advice for entrepreneurs starting cleaning companies of their own.

A great way to take off is to partner with Realtors. They are always looking for cleaners they can count on plus they will share with other agents too. With such high turnover in this business if you can grow with the demand you can really take off!
Thank you for sharing this tip! I'm sure that people will find it useful!
Thanks for the advice!
Great idea! How about being a realtor and owning a cleaning business??
@@ryankrohn6469 I've seen a few folks that have done that. Many Realtors has side gigs or the opposite, they own a business and do real estate on the side. It is a great gateway to more cleaning business

😍😍😍😍 I'm a 1 woman cleaning crew sometimes my 14yr old son helps 🤭...but I still work my full time job but I can see the writing on the wall and I wanna prepare myself to walk away with no regrets after 20yrs.....Thank you...so inspirational 🙌 🤗
We wish you the best of luck! Hopefully our content helps you out!
Best wishes!
Omg! We're in the same boat. I'm seeing the writing everyday. Just need a good plan to do it
What a fortunate son to have your as his mother! I'm sure you're also feeling blessed to have your 14-year old son. Regret nothing when starting your own business! Own it!
May I ask how it's going? Also how do you calculate the rate?
It’s great to see business owners with this mindset. Letting everyone know their able to eat and also do it 🙏🏾
Very true Cesar!
. . . know they're . . . .
It's fantastic to witness business owners embracing this mindset, making it known that everyone has the ability to nourish themselves and achieve success simultaneously.
This is my new favorite channel on youtube
We're so happy to hear that! Thank you :)
I must say, same here!
Paul, these videos are so good! This one is especially great. I feel compelled to buy se cleaning supplies and start hustling! You hooked me with the FastCap videos, and now I'm down the rabbit hole. You ask REAL questions, and your videos aren't clickbait. It's so refreshing to get actual, useful information from business videos today. Keep it up!
Thanks a lot for the kind words!
I need a mentor to help me
Being a veteran, I was an NCO so I was a team leader and part of my responsibilities included room inspections for my soldiers. I also had to lead by example and attention to detail was something I always focused on. It's carried with me since I discharged and I've always thought that I can actually do a better job at cleaning than literally everyone I personally know. The thought of starting my own cleaning business has crossed my mind from time to time over the years and it was nothing more than an idea when I never really knew what direction I wanted my life to go. Watching this video has definitely made me sit up and start thinking a lot harder about it. 🙌
That's awesome Edwin! We hope you do :)
Same here! If I use my military mindset then my new cleaning business is taking off!
I just wanted to point out how incredibly smart he is on meeting demand. Love that he pays his employees well. Less chance of someone stealing from your clients. I learned so much watching this again.
This guy is so humble..i see why his business took off!
This is the most realistic and actually helpful video I've seen on the subject. Congrats on the business and thank you for all the good advice.
Glad it was helpful!
Me and my fiance are at the BEGINNING STAGES of starting our cleaning business. We have a name (I love it and it doesn't limit us to just homes, as we want to branch out to provide other services as well), and we've finally purchased all our cleaning supplies. Right now, we're learning what products/ devices work best, cleaning hacks, special cleaning "potions" for specific jobs, and also we're cleaning family and friends' homes free, in exchange for before/ after pics and referrals.
This video is very-much appreciated. Thank you for the motivation to keep going!!
Awesome! We're excited for you as you start out. Cleaning for referrals and before/after pics is a great idea! Keep us posted on how your business is doing!
What equipments do you need for office cleaning?
@@UpFlip Thank you! We had to put our business on hold temporarily, due to medical issues. But I will definitely keep watching your channel and taking your advice!!!!
Where do you guy’s go to for cleaning supplies?

Another tip. The magic erasers are your best friend in the cleaning business
YES THEY ARE! I don’t even have my cleaning business yet & I know this cause I use it for myself. They are AMAZING 😩👏🏾
Great tip Karen!
As are the O-Cedar SpinMop, Scrub Daddy sponge, Chom-Chom roller, and Downy scented beads
I am currently starting a car mobile detailing business. I “strategically” didn’t use auto and or car detailing in the name because I thought to myself, I can go in and around the home as well. This has inspired me! Great content and motivation! Thank you Upflip!!!
Thats awesome, good luck to you and your business.

That's awesome Elijah!
Do you guys own your own business? Is it as successful or more than your previous careers?
Most importantly, are both of you happier doing this together than previously, working apart?
Hello ! Yes we own the company, and i will say its successful, because we work less then 20 hours a week and support ourselves with that. We have simplified our lives over the years and no doubt this is the reason why we dont have to work as much. We are truly happy working as a team together. You cant buy happiness!! We still have much room to grow. We mainly do commercial and real estate.

I’m looking to leave the medical field as well and enter into the cleaning business. I’ve never had a mindset at all to start or have my own business. I figured working for someone else and getting a paycheck is just easier but the medical field isn’t for me anymore.

It’s wild he mentioned Yelp , because I just spoke to a Yelp rep this AM & over the last few days and I’m also marketing with Angi Leads, I’m hoping it pays off when I start tapping into the market contacting customers for jobs.

I love this guy. He's open and honest. He's not scared of the competition. He said everyone can eat in this industry. That's how i feel about real estate. What the next person is doing does not bother me. I applaud their success and if they are extremely successful I'll go ask them what they are doing differently to be so successful. Hopefully, they also have the attitude where they are not scared of the competition.
Thanks for showing love to Austin! I'm sure he appreciates it. It's a great mindset to have. There always the opportunities to help each other. How long have you been in the RE industry?
@@UpFlip I've been a Realtor for 6 years. When I decided to become a Realtor I too was down to my last few rounds of money to pay bills. I was let go from my insurance job after almost 10 years and 20 years in the business. I had no plan or direction, just a dream. Becoming a Realtor is a lot of work and like with any start-up the key to success is being able to market yourself and your product. In my first year, I made 50k which was a living wage for me. In 2021 and 2022 I hit the 6 figure mark. My entire business has been based on word of mouth. Literally word of mouth. Facebook and Instagram posts weekly, very few paid ads, and maybe a few hundred dollars a year in mailers. 6 figures in an extremely saturated market almost solely based on word of mouth. That's how I know there is room at the table for everyone to eat.
Congrats on your success and hitting that 6 figure mark! I'm sure you worked hard to get there.
Our industry is the best!!! I love helping new businesses figure out how to grow their service business. Yes college could teach you something of value but trade services is where it’s at!!!!! Keep growing everyone can eat for sure!
I would love to connect with you
So inspiring, I used to sell commercial restroom cleaning, and am now a top rep at another company... but I’m tired of making other people money. I’ve been a housekeeping inspector and cleaned houses for almost 7 years now. I inspect multi million dollar houses for a guest check in on the beach in Emerald Isle North Carolina and topsail Beach North Carolina. I’m seriously thinking about starting my own housekeeping business in the summertime and then start doing more residential private cleans and expand. It’s a great business to grow if you know how to get your foot in the door. I work for a big real estate company.
You should do it Ashleigh. With all your experience your sure to be successful. 😀Would you every consider starting a real estate business?

Ughhh I want to start my own cleaning biz!!!

I have my own cleaning business for 17 years now. You can start off by having your clients provide there own cleaning stuff. Because most people like using different products on different things always. Just to see if you like it and to get started. I did that when I started and those clients like providing there own supplies and still do 17 years later. I do provide my own on other ones but most provide there own products, mops, and vacuums.
This is a great idea Lee. Do you offer discounts to clients who use their own product?
Lee, I had a similar idea but people told me it wouldn't work so I didn't try it. Did you experience clients refusing this model?
@@shauna1306 Why wouldn't it work?? You: We do have our own cleaning supplies and equipment, but if you have preferences to your own products, due to allergies etc. we can accommodate. I don't see any issues, it's either a yes or no. Don't see how it's complicated in any way.
