If you want to get extremely technical, we're both right. 'Merle' is used designate the Common Blackbird of Eurasia, which is a member of the genus Turdus. Most species of the this genus are named Thrushes in English. Oddly enough, "Merle d'Amérique," the most common 'merle' in North America is, in fact, the American Robin!
I saw this on a TV set in a store in the east village when I was 18 years old. I went mad for it. I had to get this on DVD. I moved heaven and earth to get it. It was worth every penny.
Wonderful! I remember watching this cartoon in high-school french class ages ago! I always liked it (even though I never managed to really learn French). Thank you for uploading it, it's a wonderful piece of animation.
In loving memory of Mel blanc Jim backus John Bright and Joseph LaShelle
The correct English translation for "Le Merle" is actually "The Thrush." No matter, I still love this animated short.
Uno de los primeros programas que emitió Canal 13 de Chile en su historia. Un 21 de Agosto de 1959.

EyeofSol sent me here. idk why comments like these seem necessary. This song is very pretty and doesn't seem creepy at all like she said. *shrug*
Cool.
I think the correct translation is the Black Bird, because a thrush is called une grive in french.
