Today is the first I have heard of him (I am only 26 so I always hear of number 2 lol).
But I instantly liked this gentleman. Kind eyes and a wonderful smile.
I guess God decided that he wanted to spare him the trials of leading the church.
I did do some research on him. They say they believe he died of a heart attackm
I was 12 in 1978 and his death was quite a shock.
I do not know why this pope is not yet a saint. It means not yet canonised because I am sure that as soon as he died he went straight to heaven. He was such a humble pope and I'm sure that had he lived the reforms by Pope Francis would have already been there.

Only 35, so, this is the first I've heard about him. Shame his papacy was so short. Though not Catholic, am very interested in the history of the Vatican, and Papal politics.
He would've held the Church hierarchy and bureaucracy to account. So they offed him and elected someone who played by the game.

@@The12thSeahorse i had seen a documentary on the cover-up done by the bishop of Rome. JP1 wanted to change the leadership including the purging and reassignment of corrupt bishops and cardinals especially the italians. it was good that they chose JP2 a non-italian.
