- Kibler discusses the core set - what cards are in, what cards are out, what cards are changed, and what cards are new.
In this video - Demon Hunter, Druid, Hunter, and Mage!
Brian Kibler : "I won't have to explain why tracking is good ever again"!
A few seconds later : Brian Kibler starts explaining why tracking is good.
Had to get one last jab in. Reminds me of Yugioh players and pot of desires or even just fel reaver
@@BMVfilms Is it worth playing Yugioh right now? Because im on edge of my patience playing in standard with no chance to win against most aggro decks
@@ChaotycznyWojak it’s kinda hard to get into without a friend. I’d recommend this guide: ruclips.net/video/s1QsMX9MwHA/видео.html
@@palemoon2271 It's okay, everyone can OTK now!
Also explains why the new Tracking is in some instances worse than old tracking.
I’m sad I never got to play with this “Always Huffer” card. Maybe I should have ran it instead of my most used hunter card “Another Fucking Leokk”
Leokk, the most garbage of the Animal Companions. They really need to buff it, buff the boost from just +1 to +1/+1.
"It's different for demon hunter because they haven't had these cards for seven years"
It sure FELT like seven years!
More like TEN THOUSAND YEARS!!!
I was, in fact, fully prepared to say goodbye to many of those DH cards.
@@ovinophile That's like the best thing to happen to hearthstone
I'm so glad this is here - it'd been a few days since the core set was announced, and I've been anxiously awaiting some high-level analysis on it.
Solid burn on Regis
@@BON3SMcCOY wdym, the contrary would be insulting to kibler and regis would agree

As someone who just started in darkmoon im beyond excited for this!
Welcome to the club!
I think demon hunter is good for new players though. I started during dark moon and I'd be fucked without it.
@@johnnydancer1969 Yeah I started in Outlands and DH got me through the ranks quick!
@Sylvia Morgan WTF 😂
of course!
That’s strange. You haven’t had any time to get bored of anything and hanker for a change of scenery.
After rotation, we gotta keep asking Kibler why Tracking is good.
Noooooooo
You joke, but knowing how braindead twitch chat is, they *will* do that.
@@bmkibler why is tracking good, it doesnt even thin your deck lul
@@bmkibler Why is tracking even good, it's basically as good as the old tracking, and the old tracking was bad because it removed cards from your deck
Shout out your editor for working so fast. Watched the VOD on Twitch just now, and it took awhile. At the end of it, you said your editor would be working on the video for RUclips. Sure enough, I just finished the VOD and you uploaded. Fast, quality work!
I am impressed by how hard it is to talk about these changes. There are just so many variables that it’s impossible to really factor it all in. This is probably the biggest change in hearthstone ever and I’m very excited.
Very excited to hear your thoughts on the entire core set, given how much you've been advocating for this! :)
Core sets are great.
11:35 "I thought Blur was leaving the format" Nice one 🙃
I appreciate you reading the card names, I definitely listen to these more than I watch them.
Why is every Hearthstone streamer reviewing corsets lately?
Is this because of Jaina?
Took me a second
Jaina's core set is amazing, but it got nerfed by Blizzard, with those cleavage cover.
@@derrilazkia1002 Cleavage: New keyword for "Also damages minions next to... blablabla"

Amazing video brian, i've watched a lot of reviews on the core-set, but yours is the most detailed one and the best in my opinion, keep on the great work!
I just noticed: effectively, with these changes, charge has become a keyword that is only on legendary minions in standard. Intentionally or otherwise (very likely intentionally) charge will be a legendary only keyword with next expansion. Which is great
Why is that great?
@@martinkodet6429 Cause it goes face i guess
Yeah why is that great?
@@martinkodet6429 Because charge limits a lot of design space given that charge only is good for hitting face. Opens up more room for minion buffs and combo stuff, also maybe better minions that do burn damage if they stick on board leading to more interactive burn decks.
@@albaniaalban I've never seen an interactive burn deck.
Thanks for doing an overview in this format! There’s a lot shifting with the new core set and this format made it easy to parse.
This makes me want to play Hearthstone again & it's lovely seeing Brian so amped about it
Your card reviews are always my favourite!
16:10 They changed the stats on Mark of the Wild, but they didn't remove the reminder text which literally only exists in this one card.
I love how the first thought about aegwynn is "hmm... so how can we abuse this?"
I think this core set move set in right in time, at least for me. Been playing since closed beta, and I only started feeling really tired of the classes doing the same types of things forever sometime early in Darkmoon. I had a moment early on when a Rogue highrolled a 14/14 Edwin on 2 and I didn't have an answer, then two turns later they finished me off by backstab their guy eviscerating my face and I just realized how many times I've played that played out that exact same way over the years and I just... I'm so glad all of this stuff is going to be changing. I can only get Always Huffer Kill Commanded or Archmage Apprentice Fireballed or have to make the decision whether it's worth proccing a trap when they have a 1 durability Eaglehorn Bow before something in me just really doesn't want to play against those cards anymore. That Edwin game wasn't particularly bad or unusual, but it was the straw that broke the camels back and I'm just extatic to see the core set happen now.
Thank GOD frost nova and blizzard are going away, worst feeling to have a full board frozen for 3 turns
my worst experience in hs was playing mid range hunter during ungoro and having my board frozen for like 5 or 6 turns straight, all i did was hero power and mald
I understand the frustration but I wish 1 of them was staying.
hope hearthstone continues going into a good direction. i want to actually play it 1 day again. kind of hard to when its competition is not only as good(if not better) but also much cheaper
The throughline here is definitely Blizzard finishing off the transition from using Charge to using Rush on all the old cards, which I respect as a design choice- Rush leads to a more fun play dynamic, and Charge feeling like something rare and special is probably for the best.
The SECOND I saw the new tracking I knew Kibler would love this, not because ut changes the card drastically, but because he could STOP explaining about 5 times a day why milling 2 cards is not a big deal x-D
Core set is a great change. New work for the Heratstone guys aevery year but such a nice way for new players to get into the game!
Also more decks now (up to 27) = much easier to participate in different gamestates (core, standard, wild).
Very good indeed!
25:00 arcane shot hasn't seen alot of play but it was basically the first spell you learn on hunter in wow so it makes sense to keep it in the coreset by that outlook.
Your hair looks so good man! “Someday, I’ll be just like you”
Love the video, Kibler. Now, onto Parts Two and Three.
50 mins of Kibler. Yes please
So glad there seems to be a shift away from aggro, my dreams of seeing turn 6 can become a reality 🙏

RIP Mage. I am usually pretty careful with these kinda overexaggerations, but damn, Polymorph, Blizzard, Sorc Apprentice, Frostbolt and even Missiles for spell damage decks. Since Mage has almost no healing, Barrens will need to bring a ton of support for my beloved class.
And it's not like Mage is doing that great right now either (atleast in standard). So yeah, either Mage gets a really good expansion, or Blizz once again shows that they have no idea what Mage's class identity should be...
Good to see Korvas finally. The champion of the Illidari was very much missing.
I'd be fine with what Mage is losing if there was any sort of replacement or obvious path Mage should be doing, but Mage doesn't seem to get anything really to help it. It certainly can't defend itself in the early game, and can't deal with large minions very effectively either. Flamestrike doing 5 damage still sucks considering it's seven mana, and enhancing Mage Hero Power has never really been a game winner. It feels like they're now in the place classes like Priest and Paladin were in with their Classic sets, having to rely heavily on expansions to give them anything. I do hope I'm wrong.
Wut? Mage has crap tons of early game cards. Still has Lab Partner, new Snap Freeze, Shooting Star, Cone of Cold, Combustion, Brain Freeze, Firebrand... it's probably my favourite early game package even in the current meta.
YOGG AND LOAD IS BACK BABY... BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT
I made a Zixor shuffle deck that used a bunch of secrets and tracking to thin out the deck in an efficient way for a class that can't draw through the deck very well. It was interesting.
first time I’ve been interested in hearthstone for 2 years...
i am really happy because these big changes! game is fresh again
I think as a result of a lot of these card changes/cards leaving, we gotta reevaluate the value of toughness again. As far as I see it, there are now very few ways to deal with >3 defense minions from hand. I think that makes the change to Ethereal Conjurer very meaningful, and any 5+ defense minions much more likely to stick around, since most tempo removal spells deal 3 dmg now.
Back before Kathrena, I used to tell people that Tracking was just "Discover a card from your deck" unless you reached fatigue. Nobody believed me. There is some visceral, irrational fear of losing cards that made people not understand it.
It's weird for me to sit here and listen to Uther talk to me about Hearthstone.
As someone who barely played after Witchwood rotated out and kinda stopped after Demon Hunter got released I'm kinda looking back into returning now
I'm going to miss those Nethrandamus double Colossus of the Moon highrolls.
As a wild player I just hope them removing secret synergy cards from mage, doesn't mean that they want to print new secret stuff.
If there is one thing wild does not need, that would be support for secret mage.
I mean the fact you had to discard cards with tracking , even thought it felt bad, was a good thing since it thinned your deck and allowed you to not have to draw useless cards late game. Tracking is less good now i’d argue for most hunter decks
I mostly play all spell, thun, quest, luncy mage on ladder. It's really sad to see frost bolt gone. Basically won't be able to meaningfully interact with Demon hunter at the right time unless expansions support it. RIP frostbolt.
I have a very simple way to counter the tracking change discourse. It’s not a better or worse card, it’s a simpler card. And for the core set that matters. It’s impossible for newer players to have access to cards that are easy to understand what they do and how they work. Moreover tracking was the only card that worked the way that it did. If destroying cards from your deck was more common in hearthstone then maybe it could have stayed the way it was but this is a better change for the health of the game that it is a change for the once card or class specifically.
Yeah, I think the motivation for the change is more about making it simpler than anything
Swipe rotating is a really big change tbh
At first I didn't really care about Nordrassil Druid being a 4 mana 3/5 with a 3 mana discount, especially since Druid basically gets a 0 mana 3/5 taunt and a 0 4/4 rush, but the problem with the other cards is how late in the game they need to be played. It feels bad playing a 5 mana 3/5 taunt for example if you're struggling to stay alive against aggro, whereas a 4 drop body on turn 4 with the flexibility to play a 1, 2 or 3 mana spell could work out in your favour. It also works for emptying hand which some slower Druid decks have a problem with having many high cost cards and too much card draw.
Will the non Core Set versions of rebalanced cards also undergo the same changes or remain in their original forms? Like can I run OG Tracking in Wild, can I even run 2 copies of both the new and old?
Yeah I wonder too
No, the cards are being changed in all formats
But the legendary dragons are "new" cards, right? So there will still be the spell damage Maly in wild?
@@the_henne9 the new dragons are completely new cards, they aren't connected to the OG dragons
@@the_henne9 from what I understand, if a card has a new name and new artwork, then it is a completely new card. Otherwise it is an update to the preexisting card
So hunter gets an 8/8 charge for 9, and demon hunter gets an 8/8 charge windfury for 9.
I am so looking forward to facing uber aggressive DH decks for the next year.
Well, they lose a lot of aggro cards for a change. So, I think it's not so bad.
Rip Mage, was a pleasure
Spell Damage for Mage is a NEW experience...says who?Cram session, the 1/3 the 2/3 the legemdary Mozarki or whatever it's called the Frostwhisper or whatever her name is ,ALL are spell damage cards. The FROST theme has been LONG gone from the game ,so i find it odd it would bother anyone at this point.Mage still has the 1 cost twinspell so it can freeze two minions for 2 is still pretty significant.
Aegwynn would not work with Clown tho, unless you have a way to shuffle in a corrupted copy in you deck.
Okey that blur joke was top tier
I'm a bit annoyed that Nourish is staying. It'll be really hard for any new Year of the Gryphon card draw to catch hold, and it seemed like a prime candidate for leaving Core. I hope that in a future Core rotation, we'll see something like Mire Keeper and Lunar Visions replace Wild Growth and Nourish...
I'm also a little sad that *all* the animal companion stuff is currently out, just out of nostalgia. Having To My Side! come back as a spell-deck-only double Animal Companion could have been cool.
No worry Brian,
always huffer will live on,
in heart of smorcers.
I like that mage got its freeze spells removed. A little disappointed that Polymorph is gone. I really felt like being strong against buffs was a core mage identity.
Mage was butechered!
The new legendary looks very cool in theory, mark my words it will never see play.
mage is absolutely dead in standard with these changes. could have at least left us with frostbolt at least.
@@Nitechorus The problem could be fixed if every 1st set of a given years was spot on!
Every March they could possibly print sth that refefctively replaces the effect/utility of sap and frostbolt etc
But they have proven to be completely incapable of not forcing stupid archetypes that never see play and waste cards slosts in expansions. Rememeber Handbuff as whole? freeze shaman? Or all the years that rogue was getting utter shit and was forced to play tempo decks filled with neutral and almost only classic cards (i.e. water rogue)
I'm so excited for Yogg and load.
tracking got nerfed its much better in the late game to pick the high mana card and thin out some low cost cards so you dont draw them most of the time anyway
Man, Face Hunter got gutted.
Good
Yes we're all going to REALLY miss playing against face hunter. What an interesting and interactive deck. NOT.
I liked it :(
Well guess will play demon hunter, but it's not the same thing
@@learningtodrawslowly7213 cancer much. Yeah i guess if you dont want to have to think whatsoever and play without even realizing your opponent plays card its great. Hf
@@marc-andrecote2948 Do I kill command or hero power right now? Should I play for board or just completely let go of the board and rely on burn to finish the game? Is it likely for me to hit lethal fast enough within the next few turns or should I try to grab the board? There is actual thinking within aggro decks if you didn’t know. As someone said, “ aggro decks are higher skill early game because of more decisions to make due to lower cost cards but decision goes away in mid game.” Control deck, vice versa. Aggro isn’t AS skill testing as certain decks, but it ain’t brainless.
I think the clowns would lose the powers after being corrupted, but still, +6 spell damage that gives your next draw +6 spell damage is a cool build your own malygos.
They're not supposed to lose handbuffs.
Kibler literally got even more S-W-A-G in no time
sooo...why did demon hunter need extra cards per xpac again? I thought it was so they could give them a classic/basic set after initiate set rotates out of those extra cards. Now with the Core set, they just have 11 more cards than everyone else?
13:49 tHeSe
Idk why but the way it was said was hilarious
Obviously all hunter players will be sad to see those four 3 drops go, but I'm going to really miss Misdirection. So many times I've gotten the enemy paladin to throw their huge libram buffed minion into their own face (bonus points if they're wielding a weapon). It's a great card that can help turn a losing game into a win in the right meta. It will be missed. =(
Does anybody know what happens if we currently have the cards that will be included on the clasic set? Will we be getting the dust for them?
Im just sad i won’t be able to play maly druid anymore :(
Haven't played HS in years.. their removing everything I know. Is now a good time to check it out again or go back to MTG?
Poggers! Mage with Snap Freeze in the Core set is just basically being down a card altogether lol. If that card is good I’ll eat my fucking shorts. Making a terrible, unplayably bad 2-cost card cost 1 doesn’t make it good.
Snap freeze saw play as a tech card in conjurer’s calling mage decks for mirror matches back in the day
@@bmkibler Which still doesn 't make it good or desirable to have in your class. I unterstand that freeze effects are frustrating but the new Mage Core Cards seem too underpowered to be excited about them.
No it's not. Snap Freeze at 1 mana is twice as good as Snape Freeze at 2 mana. Gives mage hard removal, shuts down big threats for a turn for 1 mana.
@@Aldrius It doesn't offer enough to justify losing a card for it. You either waste a card to prevent a single attack, while not affecting the board or you invest another card to freeze the target before. Both is bad. They should've went with Ray of Frost instead.
@@seranas7558 I mean no? That's not bad. I dunno how else to say it.
Ray of frost is extremely overrated and is only better than brain freeze in that it has better synergy with cyclone. Cold snap will be similar to brain freeze except used in the early game instead of the late game.
I'm actually scared for mage
wait so standrad will be core + year of the phoenix + new expansion. Ashes of Outland is year of the phoenix, so all cards from that set are still gonna be standrad for the next year right? Even all the DH cards?
Demon Hunter initiate set came out before the Year of the Phoenix rotation. It's considered part of Year of the Dragon. And then the Basic Demon Hunter set is rotating with all the other basic sets.
Tracking is now worst for aggressive deck archetype but it is better for control and so so for midrange archetype no?
But sadly hunter was mostly aggressive I hope it will change with all those changes...
If you aegwynn dies and you draw a taunt , would it take the taunt as well if it dies to move to a new creature drawn? , also how about Potion of illusion to this card ? hmmm ,
Raz frostwhiperer would be OP , being the carrier of Aegwynn Ability + potion of illusion combo
Only +2 spell damage and the deathrattle would carry over and other effects like taunt would not, and potion of illusion would not copy this effect.
Thank you kibler
Did Kibler miss Warglaives of Azinoth?
Doesn't tracking still thin your deck in the new iteration? It is worded similar to the cleric of the scales who does take a spell out of your deck, so tracking still thins but doesn't burn card.
Unless you count drawing a card as ‘thinning’
It’s not *removing* cards anymore, you’re just drawing one of three cards, while previously you could remove two less desirable cards
@@Barely_Edited Agreed it isn't hard thinning but the way he said it in the video it almost sounded like he thought it was like the old tracker card that added a copy as opposed to drawing, drawing is deck thinning in this case it's still less than before but still does thin slightly.
So I have a golden maly and all these cards do I dust them or ?
With demon hunters initiate set rotating out will I be able to dust any of it? Will it just be deleted from my collection?
So... Is the new tracking good ?
that aegwynn card confuses the fuck out of me... does the next minion only get the spell damage? or the spell damage and the death rattle? "powers" makes me think that you get the death rattle as well as the spell damage.
Does tracking still actually draw the card or do you get a copy of it?
It doesn't say copy on it.
It still draws. Same wording as the 1/1 dragon lady for priest, who draws the card.
I think the main reason frostbolt is getting removed is because mage has so much spell damage now they don't want spell damage burn mage to be all there is for the next year.
Can u dust the outgoing cards in Deamon hunter?
Thanks for this
When its go live ?
I had no idea at all that Gift of the Wild was even a card.
It was added in July, 2019 to replace Naturalize, which had been hall of famed.
The core set is the right idea for HS, but Blizzard has had a really bad habit of nerfing or hall of faming cards, which ruins some strategies for that class, and then they don't add anything to fill that gap for multiple expansions. Some classes lose the ability to play certain styles, rogue lost the ability to play a good control game when vanish got hall of famed, and the only meta rogue decks since have been extremely fast and aggressive ones. Other classes have been essentially removed from the game, like shaman has been time and time again. Either their good cards rotate out, or they get nerfed/hall of famed, and then the replacement cards are just meme garbage, like frost shaman. Shaman then loses the ability to achieve more than a 50% winrate, and practically becomes unplayable until they release the new busted cards for it, which just repeats the cycle. Theoretically, the core set should help this, but given their track record, I have 0 faith in Blizzard to pull this off.
It's weird to think that Yogg will, most likely, I'm not sure on this, be legal while Pyroblast isn't legal
Happened with Ball of Spiders
i almost never play tracking (2 copies never) because it just feels annoying. sure most of the time there is a clear winner and you are happy to get a card you need. but more often than not you get 2 good cards in tracking and you lose 1 permanently. which leads to a loss under certain conditions. I also don't buy the "better odds to draw needed cards in the rest of your deck" argument. because you still might need a very specific card on your top deck, while mathematically its obviously true, but in real life situations it doesn't happen like that.
as soon as this rotation happens i think i'm gonna stick to 'classic' mode almost exclusively because the way they are gutting mage is criminal, over time they removed so many of the defensive tools either with hall of fame, or from naturally rotating out older sets, and have never been replaced with meaningful cards to fill that gap which is why for a very long time now mage has had to rely on the freeze/combo style gameplay as a way to win and stay competitive after 'minion combat' kinda died when the game became a battle of who can generate the most random OP shit and win.
I'm gonna be playing original freeze mage again as soon as possible! Ice block? yes please! frost nova and blizzard, yep yep. 1 cost mana wurm? A gift from heaven! And finally I can unleash fireball, double frost bolt, double ice lance again for the win!
DH: Cant wait for Warglaives + Inquisitor OTK. Reduce Inquisitor's cost with Felscreamers, 33 damage between 2 cards. :/
Druid: Nordrassil is gonna become a big staple in Druid I think. It lets you cast free spells! Or discounted ones if you don't have a free one. Bad topdeck with no hand though.
Hunter: 'Jaws theme intensifies' BEARSHARKS BACK BABY! Also a lot of cards that are returning could very well be staples for Hunter.
Mage: Goodbye, Freeze Mage, you will not be missed. Goodbye, Exodia Mage, you will not be missed. The class isn't dead, but they stripped the things that Mage was known for. Will be interesting to see where the class goes.
Arcane shot likely harkens back to hunters marksmanship specialization in wow
More often than Brian seems to realize ,tracking meant two very important cards have to be chosen between and one important card lost.
Clickbait idea: "Multi-year core set crusader finally reviews core set"
Aegwinng chest is massive
I kind of hate how Druid & Hunter are constantly at odds as the "beast" classes. Even more that usually they are the same style of "beast decks." Just usually at different times.
I don't like that they are removing so many iconic cards.
Instead, they should have better gone down the "specialization" route by introducing new features and effects. Much like they went from "general" spells to schools of spells for the sake of balancing, but yet keeping the complexity at the next level (which is a favorable thing to have instead of cutting).
In the same vein, IE: they could have split the 3 damage from the Fiery War axe into 2 physical + 1 fire damage and then granting +1 fire ward (new feature) to the Bearshark card, that way both cards could be used and level of complexity increased.
I care about the balance, but I also care about the fantasy part. And I hate when the latter is sacrificed for the former when there might be an option "C" so to speak.
Damn... rip my hunter
Wait, Naxx is out?
