We especially went to Ipoh, Malaysia to try Nasi Ganja, the iconic and famous local dish.
It is not what it sounds like but it's totally addictive and left us realising why the locals absolutely love it. No trip to Ipoh, Malaysia would ever be complete without trying their famous Nasi Ganja (Nasi Kandar).

Ipoh is the birthplace of actress Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies [James Bond], Crazy Rich Asians, etc.)
Oh wow we didn't know that 😳 😊
you be surprised if you manage to bump into her once in a while
ICe kacang=ABC(air batu campur) mixed ice. Traditional chendol is just shaved ice with the green striped jelly, coconut milk and palm sugar while ABC has lots of other things like corn, kidney bean, nuts etc and drenched with rose syrup and evaporated milk
Oh wow that's good to know 😊
Quite recently a customer from KL picks up nasi ganja order by helicopter....can you believe how addictive it is? Insane
Thats crazy haha 😄
Love your food tours! And love that you never give up looking for something! Fabulous street art! Really unique!
It was soooooo hot that day but we did not give up and the food was amazeballs 🥰😊
this is top 5 of rice in malaysia u should try
1 = Nasi Lemak
2 = Nasi Dagang
3 = Nasi Kandar
4 = Nasi Minyak
5 = Nasi Kerabu
but normaly we eat nasi campur everyday, that top 5 of rice we eat maybe 2 or 3 time in week
Thanks for the top 5 haha 😄
Glad you both enjoyed it.. 😉 the food is the Best!.. oh and btw.. it's not boiled egg but a salty duck egg instead.. yummy! 👍🤘🏻❤️
Oh was it duck egg? That's even better 😊
Very nice... I had been busy lately but i don't forget to like your videos you know how much I love you both... take care...
Jason we missed you, thanks for dropping by, hope everything's cool bro 😊
Nasi Ganja… very delicious👍❤️
We loved it 😄
awesome .. you found it.
Ipoh is hometown for Malaysia's National Cartoonist. Try to get Lat's collection of Kampung Boy. You will see Ipoh and story of Malaysian's kampung boy memories. You can get them from books stores like MPH
Thanks for letting us know 😊
ABC and ais kacang are the same. Some places prefered to call it abc while others ais kacang. And the ingredients used can varies from place to place. It includes the green jelly(cendol) though. But definitely different from the cendol dessert which uses coconut milk and usually has less ingredients
They taste yummy 🥰
i think i will have to take my dinner after watching.your vlog makes me hungry as well.
Haha we're hungry again now lol 😆
Hi guys. I'm all caught up with your vlogs Wahooooooooo Go me!
I loved the mirror lake tour and the birds that climbed all over you 😄😀
The temple looked very peaceful. Somewhere that you could chillax a while?
As for this vlog...I loved the chicken. It looked almost BBQd? Very tasty 😋
Excellent travelogue as per.
Stay safe and well guys

Simmo the food here is just too good we have both put on a lot of weight we think lol 😆
@@sunkissedbucketlist.. .but that balances out because of your other physical adventures 😀😄
#FoodExcerciseBalance 😄😀
You should try their chicken rice with the famous bean sprouts and their chicken baked on salt( but not salty at all). Go to the local bakery(usually Chinese run) and try their buns and pastries. The black jelly is actually grass jelly.
Thanks for the suggestions 😀

Thanks for the weather update 🤙🏻😉
When thinking of Ipoh, the first thing that comes to mind is always their Chicken and Bean Sprouts (LOU WONG @13:18). Nasi Kandar is more like Penang's specialty. But still, a good place to start experiencing nasi kandar. Bon appetite
Nasi Ganja was very good so we're glad we didn't miss it 😁 thank you!
Wow,looking at u guys enjoying the nasi ganja makes me hungry😅 hope u guys enjoy it 😋 wish u guys to have good days🌹 a head making new contents 😊☕🫖

Kuala Kangsar..Pangkor Island..Kellie's Castle Batu Gajah
Thanks for the suggestions 😀
My late father brought us here to eat the nasi ganja in 1968 when we were living near Ipoh then. I still go have lunch there when I'm passing through Ipoh. Fyi, I used to live in Kingston upon Thames in the 80's and 90's, for about 15 years!
Oh wow 1968!! Has the restaurant changed much since then? And how do u find the taste now from all them years ago? 😊
@@sunkissedbucketlist Omg, I inadvertently showed my age there, lol. Anyway can't exactly remember what it tasted like all those years ago, but I don't think the taste has changed much in the last 15 years. Btw the building across the road from the nasi ganja shop used to be a bus station.
Abg Mus is one of the kind..a lot of life experiences
@@azamisme hehehe...thank you brother Zam 🎣
The Nasi Ganja is very tasty that during the slightly relaxed Lockdown period someone sent a Helicopter from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh to pick up some Nasi Ganja for lunch in KL, in breach of Lockdown conditions.
Oh wow that's crazy 🤪
Hi guys, awesome video. Take care and stay safe.
Thanks alot Linda hope you're doing well 😊
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video n for showing your experience with d nasi ganja in Ipoh. Lovely to see d street arts, almost in all d cities in Malaysia, well except for Putrajaya. D street arts in Ipoh r very unique, artistic.
If u guys r interested in water themed park, check out d one in Tambun not far from Ipoh. In Penang, it has d longest slide in d world. Near KL, d sunway lagoon is one of d best in Malaysia.
U guys r definitely one of d loveliest couple from overseas to visit our country. U guys enjoyed Malaysia, d places in this country n what it has to offer without any complaint whatsoever.
We have absolutely loved everything about Malaysia, from the friendly locals to the culture and most importantly the delicious food on offer (we're in paradise) haha 😄 we love it here !!
@@sunkissedbucketlist Haha. Glad to know that u guys r having a good time here in Malaysia. I've also haven't u guys complaint about d hot n humid weather. ABC can really cool u down. I can't remember if u guys tried cendol, it's also a really refreshing dessert. 😁
@@Yasin_Affandi Yes bro, they did try in previous video at Concubine Lane
Awesome to see your happy faces! 💝💙🙂🙂
Haha thank you 😊😉
That black jelly is called Cincau, which is cooling to the body. This black cincau, is made from a leave from a black cincau plant. The other cincau would be the green cincau. Which is not so common sold. Which also from leaves of a Green cincau plant. You can search youtube to see how they make it.
Oh ok that's cool! Thanks so much for sharing with us! We'll have a look 😁
Greetings…Nasi Kandar is originated probably in 1960s or even older. As you guys know nasi is rice & kandar is carrying on the shoulder. This is how those days the peddlers use to carry around the streets.
Having said that, they don’t carry much varieties of dishes or gravy(curry) too. Basically a person(those days) will request to add or mix all types of gravy & topped with hard boiled egg as well as a cut of fish or chicken plus the simplest but yet nutritional tasty okra.
This is still in my memory because I was born in 1967 & Penang is my hometown. The tradition of carrying on their shoulder ended somewhere in mid or late 70s I guess. So, if you were ask me how do I like my nasi kandar, nothing beat the old school way of dishes.
Thank you so much for your nice video & hope you guys are safe & healthy always.
Thank you so much for the detailed history about this delicious dish 😊
can’t wait for your penang’s, langkawi’s, sabah’s vlog 😉
Stay tuned 😉
We drove to Ipoh from KL after office hour, had dinner around Ipoh railway station and than back to KL.
Oh wow you did all that in one day? That's commitment 👏 😊
@@sunkissedbucketlist that time there isn't any expressway to Ipoh, just the trunk road all the way from KL to Ipoh so it took double the travelling time compared with today.
On long weekend holiday we will head to Pangkor Island, also in Perak.
Anyway there are two Pangkor Island. Pangkor Laut island have a better beach.
Your vlogs are like nasi ganja ... very addictive ... lol!!!
Haha thanks for that 😄 hope you enjoy it as much as you do the rice 😉🤙🏻
Older Perakians call it Ais Kacang ( kacang means ground nuts), even though it has more than just nuts. The shaved ice and condiments are drenched in sweet syrup. When i was a child, ais kacang would be a family treat.
As a teenager i discovered ABC in KL and other states but its exactly ais kacang! 😅
Now in Ipoh if you call for ABC, most places will give u ais kacang with aiscream topping.
Cendol is the green jelly topped with Coconut milk & melted palm sugar. U can add ons to your basic cendol other condiments like red beans, sweet corn, glutinous rice, etc. My favourite is with glutinous rice. 🤤
Nasi ganja is not only addictive but makes u sleepy & high afterwards… hence the name. 😵💫
Thanks for the detailed explanation 👍🏻 😀
At nasi ganja puding caramel is very delicious.
We will have to try that too 😉

ABC tend to have a lot of topping..but doesn't have the coconut milk ..but ice kacang does....while cendol is always comes with coconut milk....I think

Usually nasi ganja or nasi kandar, they cooked with kas kas or poppy seeds...but not illegal, its spices in receipe...feel sleepy and addictive if eat more..haha
It was absolutely delicious 😋 😍
Nasi ganja .. you are at another level now ...

@@sunkissedbucketlist nice👌
It is boiled salted duck egg. It adds salt to your food, hence why it taste delicious 🔥😋🌈
Oh now we know why it was salty haha 😄
That's definitely downtown hotel ipoh. Walking distance to most places.
Nasi ganja is just ok but not at it's best nowadays.
Thats exactly the one 😉
Know what nasi ganja kandar are also my favorite too 😁👍🏼
Oh hey that's cool haha 😄
Ya nasi ganja.. jln yg kalsom, ipoh
antara yg terbaik nasi kandar.
Loved the rice 🤙🏻🥰
7:58 its that boil egg? its look like boiled salted duck egg. Usually the white part is salty but some salted egg are less salty. We usually eat it bit by bit with the rice, well of course you can eat it however you like too.
It tasted amazing duck or chicken not sure haha 😋 😆
@@sunkissedbucketlist 😁 I'm pretty sure its salted egg ✌️

Nasi ganja accordingly is so tasty and addictive, hence the name ganja or Marijuana. No Marijuana used though.

Malaysia is food heaven
It definitely is 😍
try pamelo (bali fruit)
Thanks, we'll see if we can find it! 😉
As far as i know abc used rose syrup, condensed milk. Cendol used palm sugar and coconut milk. So could be a fusion ? Lol
Ice kacang is ABC + cendol
We love both 🥰
if it's without coconut milk, it's abc. it's with coconut milk, usually no corn and other stuff, it's cendol.
I think ice kacang more famous in Penang...in other states ABC is more common
Thanks for letting us know 👌🏻 😊
@@mohdzaki1089 yes, abc and ice kacang are interchangeable for me.
If u loved nasi ganja, u must come Penang to try original recipe nasi kandar.
We are in Penang 😉
Shld try siew pau.
Will have to try it soon 😊
Thats very famous in Ipoh
Loved it, sooooo good 😊🤙🏻
Eat with hand more heavenly than metal taste from spoon and fork

Have you try their white coffee?
Not theirs but we've tried white coffee elsewhere 😊
ABC and AIS KACANG IST SAME..
Oh cool 😊
What time did you guys reach there?.
2pm
That is salted egg to be eaten in bits with the chicken, rice and veges, not in a single scoop. The best way to enjoy nasi kandar is to MIX the rice, sauce, chicken/ meat with veges in a single swallow.
Oops! We thought it was a boiled egg haha! Thanks for letting us know 😁
@@sunkissedbucketlist - ha ha…simple tip to know difference
Salted egg- always cut in half with shell intact
Boiled egg- full body without shell
We will look out for that! Thanks 😁
Its ABC (AIS BATU CAMPUR) normaly cendol with coconut milk but abc not
Oh cool 😉✌🏻
So many people confused which one ABC,which one is Ice Kacang even for the local ...personally I prefer ice kacang than ABC....ABC doest taste creamy enuf ,just sweet
Sorry sir abc means ais(A) batu(B) campur(C) mix peanut blenders ice
My pronounce not good i hope that u understand me!
Im your subscriber sir
I like ABC
And us 😉
That restaurant is unlike any mamak restaurant. It's not a meeting place. It's an eating place. You don't linger after you finish eating. Someone always waiting his turn after you finish. Better 'tapau'.
I always ordered the same thing there : 1 pc chicken, 1 half salted eggs. They add the 'standard' accompanying knick knacks. Wiped the plate clean. As someone waiting his turn behind me. Every time.
It was sooo good 🥰
Oh my .....did you eat the salted egg a whole lot?....supposed to eat it in small portion bcoz it's not like boiled egg ...it's salted egg....
Someone said it was duck egg? Well whatever it was, it tasted yummmm 🥰
@@sunkissedbucketlist yes salted egg always b duck eggs
For me ice kacang and abc is the same
For us they're both super yummmmmy 🥰🥰
ABC in many states don't have coconut milk....the one in Penang has coconut milk instead..that's y they called it ice kacang
✌️😎✌️❤️
😊🤙🏻😊
It isn't by any exactgeration that there were times this nasi ganja were ordered and delivered by helicopter to Kl. It's that addictive.
Yeah we heard about that, crazyyyy 🤣😊
@@sunkissedbucketlist not crazy but actually true cases !
makan telur masin byk camtu pun takda reaksi cakap tak sedap... takkan la makan telur masin byk camtu pun sedap jugak... haha
Salted egg was actually yumm 😋
ABC = ais kacang
Different cafe different style with different ingredients
Oh wow 👌🏻
U should eat using hands more feelings 😘
We will try for sure 🥰
First!
Welcome to Ipoh, my hometown. I've been to Yong Suan restaurant for Nasi Ganja since 1970s when I was a kid. In this restaurant, it's common to share table with strangers as it always packed with people.
It's good to see both of you using spoon instead of fork.
ABC stands for Air Batu Campur, literally means "mixed ice" because the shave ice will be mixed with so many things like corns, peanuts, jelly, green cendol, condensed milk, syrup etc. Ais Kacang and ABC are the same thing, the difference is Ais Kacang is the term usually used by the Singaporean
This is for you 🏅 😊🤙🏻

btw, Ipoh people not really into Nasi Ganja, including me as well..haha..because there are a few places much more tasty than Nasi Ganja, only outsiders and foreigners get into their viral free advertisement. Fair enough for you guys. happy travelling and welcome to Ipoh my hometown.
ABC a short form for - Air Batu Campur (shave ice mix with syrup). This is the basic ABC or called Ais Kacang as well. The main different ABC and Chendol, ABC has a red bean and Chendol don't have that. You will get different kind of ABC at different places..100 place, 100 kind of ABC you will get..the best so far I try, it's in JB..lol
