8th Grade Math - I didn't care about math at all until I hit university. Now here I am taking a statistical analysis course, having to go back to good old Grade 8. Stay in school!!!!!
Hey guys! I'm studying at a Kazakh school, but trying learn it in English too, to improve my English skills. Idk why i said here, but ok 😌 Thanks for video, it was useful.
I am I 6th grader and I'm doing 7th grade in the summer so I can be in 8th grade next year so I am practicing my 7th grade math so I will know what they're telling me and you really made it easier who knew square roots where so easy
We assume that (-5)^2=25 and 5^2=25 then (-5)^2=5^2. then if we enter the square root in both sides we get : sqrt((-5)^2)=sqrt(5^2). if sqrt(x)=x^(1/2) then ((-5)^2)^(1/2)=(5^2)^(1/2) (-5)^(2/2)=5^(2/2) so -5=5. How do you explain that?
This can be explained using order of operations. When you get to √(-5)^2) = √(5^2) The right side can be easily simplified as followed: √(5^2) = √25 √25 = 5 Which leaves you with √(-5)^2) = 5 But then on the left side, you have to do grouping symbols first. √ is a grouping symbol and in it is an operation Therefore you have to solve that operation first before you find the square root So (-5)^2 = 25 √25 = 5 5=5
@@lucditton6029 it looks like the exponent sign is "^" so he used the exponent 5 with a mini 2 above and multiplied it to the power of said number, so he got 5 multiplied by 5 then 25. Then he divides 25 by 5 to get 5. There, good training for both of us

I recently just saw this on another comment on a RUclips video. If you were walking -2 miles east (2 miles to the west) every hour Where will you be in negative 1 day (in -24 hours)? In negative one day you will be 48 miles to the east. -2 (miles east) x -24 (hours) = 48(miles to the east) As a result, a negative times a negative is a positive.
@@pianoboss6000 so then to me, it seems like, the multiplication of negative numbers is always asking for 'absolute value' because, you still walked -48 miles in a negative direction in context to reality.

We assume that (-5)^2=25 and 5^2=25 then (-5)^2=5^2.
then if we enter the square root in both sides we get : sqrt((-5)^2)=sqrt(5^2).
if sqrt(x)=x^(1/2)
then ((-5)^2)^(1/2)=(5^2)^(1/2)
(-5)^(2/2)=5^(2/2)
so -5=5.
How do you explain that?
-5 is a square root of 25, but 5 is the *principle* square root.
Whoa!
I didn’t get any of that because I’m braindead!
This can be explained using order of operations.
When you get to √(-5)^2) = √(5^2)
The right side can be easily simplified as followed:
√(5^2) = √25
√25 = 5
Which leaves you with √(-5)^2) = 5
But then on the left side, you have to do grouping symbols first.
√ is a grouping symbol and in it is an operation
Therefore you have to solve that operation first before you find the square root
So (-5)^2 = 25
√25 = 5
5=5
@@lucditton6029 it looks like the exponent sign is "^" so he used the exponent 5 with a mini 2 above and multiplied it to the power of said number, so he got 5 multiplied by 5 then 25. Then he divides 25 by 5 to get 5.
