Both of these look so good. I agree the wetter ink wins for me. Curious how these two compare to Diamine Polar Glow, Organic Studios Nitrogen and Wearingeul Phantom of the Opera. Very nice review - thank you 😊
Hey Tim! Diamine’s Polar Glow would go great in that video! 😊 I’d like to see you my good friend, do A kinda a test on these on longevity. ..maybe taking them out under the sun and do timing test at interval’s. We can see which one fades the less
I'm glad you chose the two sheening inks I don't own. I have three or four others, but vinta's "blue blood" is my favorite by far! More inks to acquire!
Hello HJ. Loved the video. My only sheen ink is Diamine, Skull and Roses. I'll tell you this, the Tesla Coil was really nice. I just might get a bottle. I only use this type ink on Christmas, birthday, and congratulation cards. It to me makes it more festive. Something else I noticed in the video. Did you wear your inside shoes, outside?
Do these inks really dry? I tried a similar ink from Organic Studio, and it’s still not dry after 6 months 😅 Unfortunately, the 120ml bottle from Birmingham is not available anymore 😢
Very fun and useful ink comparison, much appreciated. Definitely agree with you on the winner for the same reasons. At this stage in my life I do not have the time to keep checking and checking to see if something is available to buy. If a company is not able to have reliable supply, then too bad for them.
There's also (A Baltimore Pen show exclusive in 2023) Organics Studio Atomic Nitrogen, which is OS Nitrogen on steroids. And there are other Birmingham Pen Co inks -- Interstellar Bronze, for instance. A favorite of mine is BPC Emerald Fusion, which is dark green and sheens bright lime/emerald green. And, of course KWZ sheen machine. And for green base color, Organics Studio Walden Pond and KWZ Sheen Machine 2. (Yes, OS Nitrogen never dries, but I don't care. It's beautiful.) And there are some diamine inks -- Polar Glow, Ruby Blues... others. Thanks for the video.
I have Organic Studio’s Nitrogen and KWZ Sheen Machine. The Nitrogen is much drier like the Krishna, and the KWZ is like the Tesla Coil. the cool thing about KWZ inks is their vanilla scent. Another expert video, HJ. thank you
Never been all that interested in sheen, but this video opened my eyes to it. Tesla Coil really looks great for long, slooooowly written letters. I think my this year’s Father’s Day gift would be great for Tesla Coil, an all black Conklin All American with a Black OmniFlex nib. Really a wet writer. Now if I could only get Birmingham’s web site to open so I could order. On all three browsers I use I get the pulsating horizontal line only. A well done Video, Thanks HJ.
I bought a bottle of Tesla Coil, and I love it! Yesterday I received a bottle of Organics Studio Ernest Hemingway Santiago's Sea Blue, and I love it also! It's a dark Blue/Green ink with a Red sheen. Really nice.
I definitely expected the results to g the other way, so this was a pleasant surprise for me. I only have Tesla Coil which i love and was interested in how the Krishna would compare. Since the writing experience is very important to me, the flowing wetter ink would be my winner as well. Very fun enjoyable video. I, too, want to know, did the inside shoes go outside? Although short jaunts to the backyard are acceptable. (I too have inside vs. outside shoes….)
HJ I thought your tests were fair for both inks. They seemed pretty close however the Biringham Tesla Ink took the prize. Thank you for this great comparison. Well done. 🎉
Greetings HJ! Ink videos are so cool and informative! Both those inks are pretty interesting. I think I would go with the Birmingham, just for ease of purchasing it, Have a great weekend!
Interesting inks! Off topic question, though- could you do a video on cartridges? I know it’s not nearly as cool as bottled ink, but reality is that many of us are on the go and need to use cartridges in our fountain pens.
Too bad I can’t get Birmingham outside the US, but thanks for the comparison. I just ordered a few Octopus Fluids inks in their Sheen series and I look forward to trying them out
I entered the sheen arena with KWZ Sheen Machine (both 1 & 2), have these two, but now have toned down chrome sheen fascination. Sheen, like shimmer, impresses me when understated, neither of these can be seen as understated.
You wore the shoes outside?! I would pick Tesla Coil as I think the base blue is nicer to my eye. Definitely need to get some of the Organics Studios ink in the next lineup. I have Henry David Thoreau Walden Pond in a pen now and it is just gorgeous, and extremely wet. Will be getting a bottle when this sample is gone
@@Rgmekanic Which shoes? I have outside shoes and inside shoes and never the two shall meet! You know, I live close to Walden Pond! I even did a video on it. Thanks very much!
@@HemingwayJones 10:43 appeared to be the inside shoes going outside, however I could be mistaken and you have outside shoes with an uncanny resemblance to your inside shoes I remember seeing on a stream. 😉
@@Rgmekanic When my inside shoes get dirty or holy or whatnot, I wear those ones outside. I only wear the fresh ones actually inside. It’s like How dress shirts become weekend shorts when they get frayed.
I've tried two Birmingham inks - Magnolia Mirage and Sterling Silver. I have Octopus Sea Serpent, which might be close to the two inks you compared tonight. A silicone-based lubricant like WD-40 works well for squeaky door hinges.
A huge factor for me is how fast do they dry? Many modern sheening inks take inordinate amounts of time to dry, which could have unintended consequences for people I may write with. (Dry time, l mean completely, not just the base color.)
I'd say you gotta give the nod to Moonview 2. I just wish it was in stock more often😕 However, Diamine Jack Frost and van Diemen's Blue Ringed Octopus are even nicer blues. I always judge my sheening inks by how much sheen you get in the writing.
I guessed Birmingham! I really like the sheen. I asked on their IG ad why a Tesla coil was considered blue and pink. They answered me! I don't remember the answer tho.
I'm not a shimmer ink fan, but I am all about the sheen! These two inks are gorgeous, but I prefer KWZ original Sheen Machine, and the Octopus Fluids Unicorn because the sheen is more pink and the base blue is more on the teal side. A comparison of these two would make a great comparison video here on your channel HJ! Love ink videos! Thanks so much, Lisa
Unsurprisingly, both of these inks are based on the same family of dyes, copperphthalocyanine blue sulfonate. These dyes are closely related to - and developed from -, the insoluble and very permanent Phthalo Blue pigments. The dyes are not anywhere as lightfast as the pigments, but as dyes goes, and blue dyes goes, they're good. Oh, and the red sheen is due to some kind of interference, similar phenomenon as is causing colors to oil slicks on water. If you dilute the dye enough, the sheen will not appear.
Krishna gets my vote after 5 seconds of contemplation. Don’t get me wrong, both are great but Krishna is the bomb! When did people start saying “there you have it”.? In my little mind I don’t know if I heard it before 2020. But I am probably delusional. 2010?

Future Sheen Wars, perhaps? Thanks!
Oh wow, I usually have no interest in these fancy inks but this one stands out nicely !!! I have carted it up but yet to pull the trigger.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks, HJ. Nice video! I'm going for the Tesla Coil as well.
My pov - I like Moonview but that’s probably because I’m a lefty and I’d make a mess of too wet an ink. And the sheen looks pretty equal to me.
That is a valid consideration. Thanks for watching!

the KWZ Sheen Machine 2 is more teal-like green than its older sibling that has blue as the base.

Thanks Hemingway. Sheen is fun! It seems like many of them tend to smudge, even after plenty of drying time. Not all though, so testing is required!
The drying time of these are measured in minutes and not seconds; minutes that feel like weeks!
