#baofeng #uv5r - Наука
I'm proud owner of 5 GT-5R's. I'm a huge fan of this version. My nephew and son-in-law (both HAMS) have one. Combine it with a Signal Stick and its's a very nice radio.
Great video. I bought one after watching this. I like you am a fan of Baofeng. I believe I have at least 6 or 7. The GT 5R is my go to radio along with an Alinco DJ VX50. Sometimes I take a ICOM V86 too. My husband and I have been hams for 26 years, and the cheapest radio back then was a Radio Shack HTX 202, which I believe was $70. 73 N3YMD
I purchased the radio after watching your video awesome video I'm going to give it a try
Hope you enjoy it!
I'm new to your channel and I'm trying to learn about these radios. I recently got two GT-5R's, one for my wife and one for me. I'm totally new to this technology and hobby. Don't have a cable yet, so I've been programming it right on the keypad. So far I've only been successful at entering and listening to the NOAA frequencies for my area. I programmed the frequencies for a repeater near me, including its offset and tone, but I don't hear anything. I also programmed the frequencies to one of my area's emergency agencies, but I can't hear anything either. I do see quite a bit of activity on that channel, with purple and blue lights flikering continuosly with some reception noise, but can't really hear anyone. I know.... I'm a rookie at this, but I'm determined to learn this stuff!
I love Baofeng! I am not afraid to say it either. All of my radios are Baofeng or Btech. I have found it easier to program the radios manually, even the Btech UV50x2 in my car. I can't wait to try this radio out! The UV-5R is my EDC radio.
Damn right and Baofeng proud! Love it!
If you will find out if the GT-5TP is the same FCC compliant please? Original offered by Radioddity back in 2016ish. Newer model of the GT-5TP is available, possibly. We believe it can also be used on MURS/GMRS and 1.25m
Great video, and I agree, the UV-5R is the only way I was able to get into the hobby. They are nice radios for beginners to learn with. Cheers!
Absolutely. Many a ham started with a Feng.
Been general licensed for 3 years, have some pricier Yaesu HTs and mobile, TYT, Radioddity, and... Baofeng! Just picked up a GT5R. I don't know what it is about these little radios, but I love them, and the accessory market is crazy good. I'll probably end up grabbing more down the road.
I'm with you Mike, Baofeng's help get people into the hobby and there's nothing wrong with that. I got several myself because they are cheap so why not? haha Great to see Radioddity stepping up to the plate making them compliant though.
It would be great if the big 3 got into more inexpensive radios to help people get into the hobby too. Other than Yeasu with the FT4 and FT65, there are no affordable radios on the market from Japan.
@@hamradiotube That is very true and it would be nice. Instead you have to find alternatives.
Does this version have any missing features compared to the "illegal" older version?
So I can't use the gt-5r as a scanner to listen in on emergency broadcasts? Or police scans?
Hey Dude, another useful video.. Thanks and rock on :)
Thank you
Oh yes the test sample was compliant ;)
Would be interested to see this version on a service monitor.
Very good if Baofeng have managed to make a better radio at that price point.
Check out Dave Casler’s video on it. I think you will be impressed.
That's been covered by so many people at this point (two years later) you'd have to close your eyes to miss it.
I bought 2 uv5rs about 3 years ago just to play with , about 40 uv5rs later I'm a General class and love them , K5MCK , 73s
hahahaha thats awesome. I look at all the HT's on the shelf and tell myself I don't need any more but darn it if I just cant stop wanting more UV5R's I never even get on VHF/UHF either. I just have an obsession with HT's.
So i noticed the Uv 5r can be unlocked to use gsmr. Im guseeing this one wont do that?
Love uv5r. Got it locked down with chirp it will only cover the ham bands I also have a vx150 and a Ft70dr
I have 7 Baofengs and I still want more! 13 HT's in total! Only 2 of them are not Chinese. I have a Yaesu FT-4XR and a Yaesu FT-7R. I do have my Baofengs unlocked though. Except for this one. It will not unlock, which is a good thing.
Hi hi I got 2. The other Riggs are chirped out as xmiters. And took a solder iorn to the xmit switch. It won't ever xmit. It's just the best low cost scanner ive ever had. And I can turn that turkey loose (out of band) as much as I like. No Squak here. Kv4li tks om. 73s
I ordered one earlier this morning from Amazon and it will be here tomorrow thanks to Amazon Prime. I also have quite a few Baofengs.
Hope you enjoy it!
@@hamradiotube .
Got 2 baofang uv5r can someone tell me how 2 manually get 1 2 talk 2 other and vice versa as cant use chirp atmo computer down cant do chirp
Thank you, great video. Just bought one, can I use the BTECH PC-04 cable on this?
If its a regular boafeng programming cable i don't see why not.
@@hamradiotube I'm actually using the red wouxun cable
I have a little collection of Baofengs, including this radio. I bought it from Amazon.
Sweet!
However I was wondering if you could give the dimensions of this...
Haha sorry. The Baofeng measures one baofeng in length.
@@hamradiotube Okay thanks.
@@TheNoCodeTech No problem ;0
I’ll keep my uv5r it does gmrs and much more !
Indeed it does. But for those times that you want to be on the ham bands and not put out spurious emissions, this is a great alternative. Thanks for watching. 73
Someone just needs to figure out a way to unlock the transmit range on the GT-5R.
I’m new to this, so go easy on me…does this transmit on gmrs and frs frequencies? I’ve seen where the new uv-5R will not due to firmware updates. If it doesn’t, I don’t understand what makes it different from the new uv-5R. Thanks for the help!
Looks like no TX on GMRS/FRS. RX only. Otherwise it would not be “legal”. Not sure about the newer UV-5R.
Nope. This is fully locked down to the amateur bands. I just did a factory reset on menu 40 and that didn't open it up like it would with other Baofengs. It's a true Ham Radio.
ok, quick question, since the UV-5R is not legal or Fcc compliant, and has bad emmisions, but some of these baofangs are, would you think it would be best to buy a pair of legal, ham band baofangs, and then a pair of legal gmrs radios just to keep in emergency use., Thanks for getting baack to me, the other 2 gurus dont answer questionions, notarubicon, and crash course
Putting me on the spot there lol! Yeah if you want to make sure you are staying legal that would be the thing to do. They aren't expensive so you might as well.
@@hamradiotube Yes, a lot of people think we are going to get them in trouble or blame them for thier opinion, you know the kind, thats what i was thinking, if thier legal and basiclly 50 bucks a pair, why not be legal for a mere 50 bucks, now, another question, do the legal ones get all channels like the UV-5r, in other words, noaaa, and can listen to all channels, like a scanner, but no transmit. so i can get weather, ect, and the legal ones can sign onto a reapeater, and can we control the ctss or do i have to look at individual radio, hamradiocrashcourse said not to buy the new GMRS radio because of 2 problems, thanks for your response, honest and to thye point, thats what i like
Edit: Went to their site and they sell accessories. Can't purchase single radio only.
Not sure what you're doing but it works fine for me.
I take it the Gt-5r is the way to go? It's a better upgrade from the Uv-5r?
Yes, the GT-5r is more preferable than the 5r because this radio is FCC compliant. No spurious RF emissions.

i wonder how come after the FCC license number at the end it says UV-5R, and not gt5r, baofang trying their switch games again, what would happen if an FCC person saw the discrepcency.
I think you are right on the money. I'm not exactly sure but it is still a UV-5R. Just relabeled for Radioddity.
@@hamradiotube so would that make the testing not valid for the GT-5R, since after the FCC number it says UV-5R, i wonder, ill have to look at the pdf or what the fcc docs say
Well it’s still a legit radio RF wise. The license may still be sketchy though.
I am a Baofeng hater; but, only because of what was essentially sale of non-compliant goods (dare I say illegal?). Just like I would be a hater of a company selling safety non-compliant cars or trucks sharing the roads. Kudos to Radioddity for doing the right thing.
You're not wrong. It is good to see that the Chinese (at least Radioddity) are looking at making compliant radios. Though this is probably the only radio that is compliant with spurious emissions and transmitting out of band. I tried unlocking it and it will not.
Funny how Radioddity used the word "broadcast" when they really meant "transmit."
No big deal. I hear hams say it too. You would think in a manual they might want to get it right but hey, we all slip up from time to time. I got called out for calling my X5105 a G90 on one of my videos. Dude went all off on what the radio looks like, its features and everything. Little does he know I have one of the most popular G90 videos on RUclips.
Do you have a link to chirp?
chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home
Even with the discount it's still $40. Think I'll stick with the UV-5R
I have a GT-5R. Good radio..
I like it.
25 + 15 (+35) and studying get's you into ham radio
Yes it does.
Yes sir and we can’t forget the 20 Dollar program cable for chirp . Then your all set 👍🏻
Put it on the scope.
If I had a scope I would. Dave Casler did a great video showing that.
The red one works better than dudes
My red one has a crappy screen.
I don't mind china stuff as long as the price point is as low as the quality. The buttcheese radios are as cheap as they should be for the quality. I love mine for " I don't give a crap if I loose it " uses. I don't mind the spurious emissions just because they are low power, and inefficient antennas. If you took one and hooked it to an amp, on a big gain antenna, ya it would be a problem. I use mine for multiple uses. I am a commercial lobsterman captain, and I also have a excavation company. I use them for back up VHF marine, and I use it for coms if we are operating in the road with flaggers. I use the old business band freq's . Yes, its technically illegal, but at low power, in close coms, big deal. I use them in the yard for my cross band repeat, and my wife loves them for listening to fire and ems calls, plus the FM broadcast receiver. Hey Mike, a serious comment from me, finally. I guess I am getting old, but you are balder then me. LOL!
Holy crap yo might be getting old. I know how much you love my Chinese radio videos lol!! I didn't know you were a lobsterman. You better send me some now that I know that haha :) I'll expect 2 live lobsters per Chinese comment from now on. And I'm backdating too! I'm not bald, it's just a solar panel for my head.
@@hamradiotube Now you know why I am such an ass. Boat captains are usually pretty outspoken and not a team player. LOL! There can only be one captain! No democracy here, only dictatorship. Unless of coarse the deck boss speaks. 2 guesses who the sternlady is???
GT-5R transmits only on 144-148MHz & 420-450MHz, Ham bands, need Ham license!
Yes, that’s the whole point.
The snobbism of the ham cultists. that's the reason your hobbie is disappearing
Except the hobby isn't disappearing...quite the opposite.
Do NOT use GT-5R in chirp!! It will not transmit. Tell Chirp that it is a UV-5R. Chirp cannot tell the difference. I left feedback to Chirp so it may get fixed.
Good to know. Thanks for the info.
Love mine! De K2SCH
Baofeng for life!
But then I will not be able to key up and have my computer start up. It really does this . NOT KIDDING
You can still do that with your other Boafengs.
@@hamradiotube oh then it’s a feature..😁
🤣🤣
👍
thanks
You can put lipstick and a dress on a pig and call it something else...but it's still a pig! But pigs are fun to play with...:)
And watching for pigs on the wing.
Awesome and it's still 25$ that's a big finger to all the haters
Yeah I thought that was pretty surprising myself.
Baofeng = Gateway drug
Exactly
Nice............. 💝
Thanks
Fcc compliant also means highly neutered. No GMRS, FRS, MURS, MARINE, or PMR. But it has better harmonics. Alot to give up for something that really doesnt matter and still doesnt tx any further.
Great video!!! 73 KB5MIQ
Thanks.
So now you are showing flaps on your videos? 🙄🙄😁
Huh?
@@hamradiotube minute 6:31
@@oscaropont Oh, haha. Yes. Flaps have many features and benefits.

Hell yeah
New GT-5TP's are, test it.....
