I am using 2+4 GB combo from different vendors. It's working fine. Never noticed anything. Now I'm going to upgrade 4+8 gb ram. Let see .

If you mix two identical rams of different capacity, dual-channel would still work. Its called Flex Mode

Even the shopkeepers don't have detailed knowledge, one of the salesman said dual channel won't work when I went to buy my ram. But if you speak with experts they'll tell you it will

You don't need 2 ram sticks of same size to get dual channel benefit, my old system had 16+8 GB corsair ram sticks of exactly same CAS latency, voltage and they worked flawlessly in dual channel, modern CPUs are designed in such a way that you can mix rams of different brands, size n CAS latencies and it would still managed to find the right possible balance, its highly recommended that 2 ram sticks should have exactly same CAS latencies, voltage n brand, size doesn't matter that much anymore.

@@sir_shoaib I would not recommend mixing 2 sticks of different brands as stated in my original comment as different brands have different set of configuration/tuning though they use either micron or samsung memory chips underneath. There are instances where many users win silicone lottery where they get away with mixing rams of 2 different brands (but same CAS latency and voltage) so you can try if you already have ram sticks in your possession (if it fails then you may encounter blue scree or blank scree error after booting) but if you are planning to buy new stick as addon then just go with same brand. Some pro users can simply tweak ram configuration via bios settings where they manage to mix rams of completely different brand, CAS latencies, speed, voltage but in order to do so they spend hundreds of $$$$ on ultra high end motherboard which absolutely makes no sense. If you are not a pro user then just check model number of your existing ram and try to get higher capacity of same model number via ecommerce sites, if same model number is not available then you must get a stick from same brand which has exactly same speed, CAS latency and voltage; size of the stick hardly matters if those 3 points are checked properly.

I've done the same. Allocated 2 GB RAM as VRAM for my GPU in Ryzen 5600g and remaining memory as RAM.

Will 8gb + 4gb with different frequency give highest performance?
No, the higher frequency RAM would underperform to catch up with the slower RAM. But its still better than having less RAM. Always use the highest frequency RAM that your motherboard and CPU can support. While upgrading add as much RAM as you can because your system would not last more than few years due to ever growing Windows requirements.
If you already have 8GB stick, go for another 8GB, not 4 GB.
If you have 4GB then you may choose to add 8GB assuming your motherboard supports upto 16GB RAM.

If you over clock your laptop then maybe some problem you will face.
And it's very uncomfortable for using 4 gb with 8gb.4 gb with 4gb gives better performance. If you using 4gb + 8gb then allow xmp file for better use

@@amerigovespucci9776 if you can replace both ram then that will be the best choice because u don't know about the ram timings ,in some laptop the 1st ram will be attached to the board we can't remove it. You can check it other wise you need to check the ram timings

Yes, but its advised that all specs must be identical for best performance. Otherwise any combination works satisfactorily. You cant mix RAMs of different generations such as DDR3 with DDR4, DDR5 or so.
I have 4 slots in my MB (which supports DDR4). I've currently installed two G.Skill Ripjaws V 8Gb DDR4 3200 Mhz Cl16-18-18-38 RAMS in my system. Now I have two questions. First, can I install two more 16GB sticks of the same brand with same specs making my configuration 8+16+8+16 = 48 GB?
Second, can I use two 8 GB sticks of some other brand (lets say Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4 3200MHZ C16) ?

i want to upgrade my ram on my laptop, but one ram is soldered on board and the other ram is same size as my soldered ram which is 4gb total 8 gb, but some ram is occupied by my gpu so the total ram i get is 6gb, i was thing of upgrading it to at least 12gb so to get 10gb of ram ...
