To this day I’ve never been in a packed movie theater that went from laughing (from the nod to the OG movie) to absolute, deafening silence. Like the air was sucked out of the entire auditorium.
I remember seeing this film in theaters with my dad, & the whole theater went from laughing, to silence, to cheering in just 20 seconds watching this scene.
This was the defining moment in which the entire audience felt absolutely shocked. By watching all these video, I can imagine the reaction of the audience.
This remake is so underrated. Serkis did such a good job bringing us into the belief that it was really a chimp and not an actor that when he speaks, not a secret if you are aware of the originals, people are so invested in him as an animal that they are genuinely floored when he speaks in the MOVIE. It's a movie, and any movie that can get you to suspend reality and actually be amazed that something that you know isn't real but you react as if it is, IS A GREAT MOVIE
The movie immerses you in its story so much that you forget you’re watching part of an IP where the whole *thing* is Apes That Speak. A testament to how well made it is.
Aside from being shocked like everyone else. I just couldn't stop thinking about the first word being no. Being told no by another creature. Rejecting our cruelty. Cesar establishing self respect. And what if all the animals also told us no, how would we eat. Chilling lol.
But I think the most underrated thing about this scene is the humans reaction to it (Will gets to hear Caesar speak but I mean this scene specifically)from the two guys Absolute shock and disbelief while the other is paralyzed with fear which parallels the reactors watching
@@lordofgonzoin Escape tho, when Cornelius was telling the humans about Caesar and the uprising of the apes, he mentioned that Caesar was the first ape to speak and Caesar said "No" which was the one thing humans always did say to the apes. It wasn't until Battle of the planet of the apes the new Caesar (Cornelius's son) outlawed the word No but he could already speak since he was a baby.
Escape from the Planet of the Apes - "But then, on an historic day, which is commemorated by my species and fully documented in the sacred scrolls, there came Aldo. He did not grunt. He articulated. He spoke a word which had been spoken to him time without number by humans. He said 'No.' 😲
Trying to go on memory... This scene was so PERFECT. The "damn dirty ape' was an awesome call back to the 1968 Charlton Heston movie. Now the important part: I think it was a novel (1963) in the story or maybe prologue?, after the experiments Caesar's first word is "no." Those who could really deep dive the lore would have 'known ' this was coming. Yet the filmmaker stitched it together so superbly, that everyone had this reaction. And the context and delivery added so much more weight to when the ape first spoke. This is filmmaking done right, when the movie team knows their subject material and take care to adapt it faithfully. I loved everyone's reactions here.
This was another goosebumps in the movie theater scene. I mean, we all knew it was coming, but I guess it was the savagery of the delivery. "NOOO!!!"👍🏽👍🏽
I really cant think of a moment in a film that legitimately shocked me into Silence. A Cataclysmic shift in the balance of Nature,Mankind has found its Rival to its species on Earth.
I still remember watching this at the cinema. Never before and never since has a moment in a movie made the entire cinema full of people gasp in shock.
This scene deserves to be as iconic as Jack and Rose standing on the front of Titanic, the T Rex roaring at the end of Jurassic Park, Forest Gump saying Life is like a box of chocolates.
It's so easy to mess this moment up by making it feel cringy or laughable but they just made it so awesome. The fear in the eyes of the other apes is so striking
When Caesar spoke, the theater I was in went silent with a collective gasp. It was as if our souls had left our bodies, and for those few seconds of silence, every single one of us felt like the inferior species humans become in these movies, and I broke that silence with a loud, "Yes!", lol.
When I first started watching this I was thinking of Apes talking in the original but I was not expecting it to happen in this movie (maybe in a sequel) I was shocked
I feel a little guilty; I didn’t see the PotA movies until later and I knew the apes learned to talk at some point, so I wasn’t really surprised that Caesar learned to talk. (At least not as much as everybody else) That being said, this is still a powerful scene, and even though I’m not shocked by Caesar speaking, it still gets me every time. Malfoy shouting “you damn dirty ape!” Caesar shouting in defiance (NO!), the awkward silence, and when that uprising music starts playing, I’m 100% rooting for Caesar.
I like this version of Planet of the Apes when that asshole caretaker using that line made famous by late great Charlton Heston in 1968's original. Because like here, caretaker and other apes were caught off guard by Caesar yelling NO! as Heston's Taylor saying that line shocked apes in the future as they thought human can't speak.
I like it when one of these reactors, MelVerse added clip of Corneilius (Roddy McDowal) from 1968's version informing Taylor (Heston) of Caesar's 1st word was No.
Almost all of them have seen the movie before. It’s literally Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, they’re pretending they’ve never seen it before and giving fake reactions since such a big film never being seen by a reactor will get a lot of views. If it was one or two people it’d be believable, but there’s no way all these people here have never seen this film before
@@20Marine I wondered about that too because they seemed to recognize the famous about the stinking paws off me thing but, that could have been because they saw the Tim Burton version.
You have to ignore the fact that it’s not intelligence that prevents apes from speaking, but the fact that their larynx, tongue, palate etc. physically prevents them from “modulating” sounds the way humans do. The serum would have had to rewrite their DNA, creating an entirely new inner structure to their skull, upper respiratory and upper esophageal anatomy…. The movie’s great though!
I Assume majority of the reactors have never seen a planet of the apes movie? I fully expected this moment from the start of the film so I’m a bit surprised as to why people are so surprised by it.
These responses being amazed is actually a little strange for me. I guess that means they had not seen the original Charleton Heston movie because the moment of speaking corresponds with the 1968 movie perfectly.
The old movies were set millennia in the future where apes were already shown to be the dominant species, so audience expects them to talk. In this movie, apes are still primitive animals who lack speech, so Caeser speaking breaks the audience's understanding of what apes should be capable of.
It's a telling detail when a reactor is so surprised by the idea of an ape speaking. It tells you they haven't seen the original films. One thing that bugs me most of all about most reactors is that they're yapping their head off through the scene - Caesar's 'no' shuts them up. You want to see a reactor who doesn't yap her head off the whole time drop by Verdy Channel. She could do with a few more clicks, her Rise of the Planet of the Apes reaction is great but didn't get many clicks because most of her subscribers are older men who have a bias against CGI.
To this day I’ve never been in a packed movie theater that went from laughing (from the nod to the OG movie) to absolute, deafening silence. Like the air was sucked out of the entire auditorium.
You can manipulate applause from an audience, but NEVER a gasp.
@thedarkknight2221 why would you laugh at this scene
@ no it was laughing at the great nod to the OG movie, but then we all shut the hell up when we heard NO!
@@thedarkknight2221 oh ok got it

exact same story here. It's among my top three moments I've ever been a part of in a movie theater.
I still remember the theater giggling at the "damn dirty ape" and then dead silence. Kudos to the studio not giving it away in the trailers.
This was the defining moment in which the entire audience felt absolutely shocked. By watching all these video, I can imagine the reaction of the audience.
Obviously, none of them ever watch the original Planet of the Apes, where all apes spoke. So sure they were going to learn it here in the new series.
When I went to see this this moment had the entire audience go completely silent.
Thirteen years later and this scene still gives me chills.

I haven't watched this movie in along time I forgot how iconic this scene was when Caesar spoke for the first time
Even his first word was a symbol of rebellion.
I like how most of them asked "did he just said no?" And then Cesar says it over and over again so we make sure he said it.
Such an incredible performance by Andy Serkis
Its CGI. How would you know it was a great performance?
@anthonycampos8057 Andy Serkis is the one in the mocap suit doing all the movements and voice

I like how the “No” is a reference to Escape from the Planet of the Apes.
Only true fans will get that reference.
It's not a reference to Escape. It's a reference to Conquest and the movie after where Caesar makes it illegal for humans to tell apes "No".
@@lordofgonzoin Escape tho, when Cornelius was telling the humans about Caesar and the uprising of the apes, he mentioned that Caesar was the first ape to speak and Caesar said "No" which was the one thing humans always did say to the apes. The fact that Andy Serkis played Caesar thanks to visual effects makes it so much more incredible!!
my reaction was the same when i saw Chuckie do that in "Rugrats Go to Paris". his first official word was "No"
😂
Bad person: Take your paw off me you damn dirty Ape!
Caesar: NO!!
Buck the Gorilla: OMG

The first time I watched this movie, I wasn't amazed nor happy that Cesar spoke..., It scared THE SH1T out of me! 😅
I remember the goosebumps I felt at that moment
Legendary movie i really need to watch it again
The look on everyone’s face when he says no
in the original planet of the apes movies caesar was Cornelius, and zira's . baby, that eventually lead the ape uprising
But that was a alternate timeline that erase the original timeline

I remember watching this on DVD and when this scene took place, I was so shocked I rewinded the scene 😮
Hearing that "No" on the screen, and in IMAX was terrifying.
The theater was so quiet you could hear a pin drop
Everyone when Caesar says no 😮😯😲😦😧

Always will be THE most chilling scene I have ever seen in a film
The guy with the tranq gun in the back shit himself during that scene lol.

I especially love the gorilla's reaction to Caesar screaming "NO!" His reaction was like "Wh-wh-what'd that brother just say?!"
One of the best scenes in cinema. I was in literal shock for a good min or 2
The most underrated trilogy EVER!! it's my absolute favorite trilogy out there.

When Caesar smoke, I was shocked. That scene was perfect.
That moment. THE BIRTH OF CAESAR!!.

You should also do a compilation of the end scene from this movie, "Caesar is home". Iconic!
When I first saw the scene, I quoted George of the Jungle. “That monkey just spoke.”
6:12 “We can talk”🤣🤣🤣
I'm loving the fact that these youngsters are clueless to the original series from the 70s. I thought they knew that the apes would eventually speak.

To be fair I didn't think he was going to speak in this one maybe the second but not the first.

The last film before this was in 2001 and flopped, before that there was only the 60s series so can you blame them?
