He neglected to say that he also started with the piano even before he picked up the cello. Such an unbelievably talented human being. I wish he still played the sax but I think he gave that up after high school and concentrated on the cello. I guess you probably know he speaks 5 languages including flawless Mandarin among his many other talents. And how many people do you know turned a high school hobby into a multi-million dollar career? I don't think there is any question that he is the most talented member of Pentatonix.

Teenage Kevin 😁👍 Kevin did end up graduating Pre-Med at Yale when Scott contacted him to join them for The Sing Off audition, and had already been to China for over 8 months as an exchange student where he MASTERED the language!!. Yes K.O is a genius!! 😎👍
But yes he was awkward and nerdy. He gained A LOT if confidence being part of PENTATONIX!!
!!! OH! and he added "singing" to his long list of accomplishments and of course composing/ arranging songs.
Avi and Kevin were roommates for years when PTX formed.
Avi taught Kevin how to sing! Kevin didn't know he had a beautiful tenor singing voice waiting to come out!
Avi is a genius in his own right. Being a music / Opera major he wanted to be a voice teacher.
Avi did accomplish this by co-founding ACAPELLA Academy here in So. California.
Avi is proficient in a LOT of string instruments (of the guitar kind).

I love that you reacted to this video, K. O. is so underrated. I haven’t seen Kevin played the sax since his time with PTX, but he knows how to simulate a sax and a trumpet 🎺 as sounds for PTX songs

The program is called from the top and I don’t believe the beatboxing was planned because I think Kevin can beatbox to anything. We used to listen to from the top on the radio when I was younger and I always enjoyed it.

Ahhhh Kevin, Kevin, Kevin!!! What more can he do??? (Or should I say, what CAN’T he do??) I guess we’ll have to keep following him to find out what he decides to pull out of his genius cap next!! What an inspiration to us all!!

How about going to medical school to be a doctor before working with Pentatonix and how about being fluent in Mandarin? How's that for starters? lol He's crazy talented!

Audition sacrifices: I believe that - in order to audition for The Sing-Off - [1] KO missed graduation ceremonies at Yale and [2] Mitch missed graduation ceremonies at Martin HS in Arlington, TX.

As we should expect - there's even more to KO's music background. PTX' first year RUclips releases kept me (& so many others) interested. I found this clip
    ruclips.net/video/jDLQMQ_swCk/видео.html
when searching for more background. Then I saw another version of the clip you reacted to.
I believe Season 3 of The Sing-Off "found" me because I can't remember how/why I saw the 1st episode. PTX grabbed my attention and was the main reason I watched the rest of the season.
From the beginning - Kevin's & Avi's contributions set PTX apart from other groups. At the time, I thought that the simplicity of preparing 5 people for 5 parts was actually an advantage over the bigger "choral" groups.
Regardless, the trio's vocal contributions not withstanding, the selfless teamwork & precise timing on top of a solid baseline and creative beatboxing made THE competitive difference.
In later videos, they revealed that Kevin's percussion and Avi's baseline typically served as a starting point for most arrangements. While we know little about the scope of Ben Braum's role, we probably assume too little about KO's and Avi's inputs to their group creativity.

If you want to see bits of Scott and Mitch performing when they were younger they have a superfruit video called Reacting to our old performances that you could check out. It goes back and forth between the two of them and there’s also another one of them singing together in high school. Or if you want full songs look up Mitch Grassi teen talent follies 2009. It’s Mitch in high school singing a solo then a duet with Scott that they wrote together. There’s also a video of young Scott playing piano at 13 called Scott Hoying and Andrew on piano. It’s on his dad Rick Hoying’s channel. He was so good at 13. The trio has a couple more videos on you tube. They sing Katy Perry’s Firework and Beyoncé’s Sweet Dreams. Both just a year before they won the Sing Off.

There's something about saxophones - both Rob Lundquist and Adam Chance from Home Free have played them, though Adam Rupp the beat-boxer's instrument is the trumpet.
