      Elena Skyline the ps1 intro's sound is kinda creepy. At night, in the dark, I remember getting scared by that sound...

      Agreed, I think the PS1's BIOS intro is the best out of all the PS consoles/handhelds. PSP's intro is my 2nd favorite though.

    The PS1 era was a time that gaming was innovative and original; nowadays we got micro-transactions, online gaming services, DLC, along with endless FPS and MMORPGs.
    I hope at some time, gaming becomes innovative and original just like the old days.

    • @d-d-i
      @d-d-i 7 лет назад +6

      And PS1 is a system which had highly innovative and unique titles, that are hidden gems on the console. In recent years, people have started to find those and PS1 has started to have sort of retro hype around it because of that. And what made it so cool was that it had a tons of seriosly creepy, atmospheric games, completely opposite to the games people had been used to before that.

    • @comyxcon4gaming860
      @comyxcon4gaming860 7 лет назад +2

      Exactly. And because of that, I've started collecting for the PS1, including accessories like the PS1 fighting stick to play fighting games like Tekken 3(which I've recently bought) and many others. Best times indeed.

    • @d-d-i
      @d-d-i 7 лет назад +2

      Same here. Bought 4 consoles in past couple years (two fat ones and two slim ones), alongside some controllers and original memory cards. Also, found original Sony-official RGB SCART cable that was propably made for PS2 but works with PS1 as well. And been collecting Dual Analog-controllers, so far I've found 4 of those.

    • @comyxcon4gaming860
      @comyxcon4gaming860 7 лет назад +2

      I recommend you get the official Sony Component Cable for PS2, as it has much better image quality than RGB SCART, but it's really hard to find; not to mention expensive; even moreso than PS2 Monster Cables. Sadly, the PS3 is not BC with PS2 games.

    • @d-d-i
      @d-d-i 7 лет назад +3

      ComYxCon4Gaming I have one yea, but PS1 doesn't support that cable.

    People say it's kind of pointless to own a PS1 if you already have a PS2 or PS3. Yeah but some games like Mortal Kombat Trilogy (1996)...if you play & beat the game on the PS2 or PS3 the screen just leaves you with a black screen. You have to restart it all over again to play it. Which is really annoying. So that's a reason to still own an original PS1.

      I'm not getting this. You have any idea how cocky got with the PS1? Their first console was a smash hit, and was the first console to ever sell over 100,000,000 units globally. A feat never before seen, and their second system the PS2 only outdid it. Every company gets like this when they're on top. What matters is the quality of games they have exclsusively on their system and so far, Sony has the most varied, quality library of any of the first parties.
      Let them act how the want, you worry about their games.

    I have an idea: play your old PS1 games on the original PS1 model (Or play your old PS1 games on your PS2 Fat or PS2 Slim) plugged into your TV and play your old PS1 games on the go on the smaller, portable, redesigned PSone with the official 5-inch LCD screen attachment. But be sure to take your memory cards and other PS1 accessories with you that way you can save and load your game data, play fighting games with arcade sticks and vice versa. The smaller, portable, redesigned PSone was the PS1 version of the Nintendo Switch before the Nintendo Switch was invented.

    Oh man, I remember going to blockbuster to rent my favorite games like tenchu, tekken, gran turismo, and GTA2 to play on my older brothers ps1...then I finally got my own on Christmas 1998, but it came with a game I didn't expect or did not want at first...Then after opening the lid and popping in the disc. I didn't know my world was going to turn upside down when I saw the title...Grandia. The games always make the console!

    This is why it is important to have a PS1 that can play Japanese games. I don't recommend the swap trick. It confuses the lens with the table of content read using a US game disc to trick it into playing a JP game disc. That is what killed some PS1 lenses from consoles my friends had.
    I still have my modded SCPH-5501 system to play imports of Einhander, Policenauts, Tobal 2, Macross Plus, Dracula X Nocturne in The Moonlight, Front Mission 2, etc... Also, JP import games are still pretty damn cheap for it.

    This was my first console (the redesigned smaller and sleeker version) I liked it a lot, but I was still jealous of my Cousin's Super Nintendo... My PS1 lasted 2 years before it broke, I never got it replaced, I got a GBA instead, and never regretted it!

  • @dj4monie

    I pre-ordered mine when it was announced at Babbage. I traded-in my SNES for it and used the credit to bring the price down. I could only afford the console and one memory card that was it. Back then you could rent games games from Blockbuster and other small shops. I still have URNotRde sticker and t-shirt that I got when it launched. I let a friend's younger brother use it and never saw it again. When I was trading to drive trucks in 2005, I went to the local Gamestop and got used PSOne for $50 with a MadCatz analog stick controller with a couple of games. I still have it. I typically play epsxe now days. Never really used my PS2 and PS3 to play PS1 games.

    Actually there was a PlayStation model before this one, the laser lens housing was kinda on a side and not strait like this one. It also has the composite yellow white and red jacks at the back. That model come with controllers which had no thumb sticks and rumble.

    I have an original and early Sony PlayStation SCPH-1001! The one I have was manufactured in July 1995 just two months before the official release of the PlayStation. I was 2 years old when the Sony PlayStation was released on September 9, 1995. I own all PlayStation consoles and out of all of them I owned, my all time favorite of course would be the original PlayStation. As a matter of fact, the original PlayStation happens to be the first video game console I've ever owned!

    Actually the launch model would be the SCPH-1001 (in the USA).
    This model is the SCPH-7501 which came out years later and came packed with a Dual Shock controller as default.
    The SCPH-7501 removed the superior direct stereo audio + composite video output. Audiophiles love the stereo output jacks and higher quality audio.

    I never actually owned one of these. It was during a time where my parents really didn't like the idea of me playing video games so I wasn't allowed a games console. After quite a lot of persuasion on my part (basically begging) I did get a silver PS2 which I loved, but its a shame I missed out in this era despite having lived through it.

    The CPU of this thing was not much faster than a 33 Mhz 486.
    But it didn't needed it anyway, as everything, EVERYTHING 3D related had something built in the hardware to solve it.
    Need to sort triangles? hardware. Need to perform T&L? hardware, need to play freaking movies or decompress audio? hardware.
    Sadly they didn't followed this philosophy with the PS2.

    • @girlsdrinkfeck
      @girlsdrinkfeck 7 лет назад +1

      abnd warpy textures

    • @dan_loup
      @dan_loup 7 лет назад +2

      Yep.
      This is due how expensive in terms of die size it was to put fast multiply/divide circuits into the system.
      To perform the perspective correction, you need to do two division operations per pixel you draw, which was unpractical.
      Another playstation image defect due the constrains was the lack of precision from the T&L operations. The coprocessor on the PS1, the GTE was blazing fast, but only dealed with 16bit precision numbers, which made all that "model wobbliness" you see when the system is rotating an object or panning etc.. due the vertices jumping between the imprecise spots.
      But if you compare it with the other attempts of the time, i would say they squeezed every triangle they could with the chip tech of the time.
      The N64 coprocessor most likely used a better manufacturing process due being out 2 years later, and could use twice the number of transistors.

    The overall design is just ridiculously futuristic, even for today. The console itself looks like some thing came out of spaceship or any realism mecha/Sci-Fi series. The controller is kinda odd at the time (at least for me) but people get used to it and became one of today's standard. I missed the awesomeness of PS1 black disc which kinda differentiate between a normal CD and PS1's. I'm pretty sure there's also purple disc for PS1/PS2 as well at some point, It's been too long ang my memories kinda blurry.
    I still play PS1 games occasionally through my PSV or emulation devices. With some tweak, the certian emulator can enhance the graphics and give old game a new life.

    I do still have several PS1s (including a 7501 so I can use a Game Hunter...cough). I remember buying a Sega Saturn in January of 1997, then for Christmas I got my first PS1. Had the thing chipped (and had the Saturn switched to play Japanese titles), but made the mistake of loaning the PS1 to one of my nieces so she and her friend could play it.
    It came back in a few days with some soda pop on the inside, destroying it! I did get another one though, but by then the person who had chipped my original was no longer in the business. Oh well, that's what the Game Hunter is for...
    Funnily, I still have my original Saturn, which still plays great. That thing's like a rock that plays Japanese games!

    3:19. "You know this thing plays discs".
