How to Crochet Granny Stripes Inspired by Taylor Swift Crochet Dress

- Ever wonder how to crochet the vintage stitch pattern from the Taylor Swift dress by VRG GRL? (By the way, it's pronounced Verge Girl.)
In this video I'll show how to make the crochet granny stripes stitch pattern. This is a vintage stitch pattern that was used in the VRG GRL crochet dress worn by Taylor Swift in London. Plus I'll show some tips and tricks to making the dress itself. It's sparingly easy, since it consists mainly of 4 rectangles. One for the front, one of the back, one for the left sleeve and one for the right sleeve.
For my sample I'm using a 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn and a size 4 mm crochet hook because my sample will end up as a blanket. Feel free to use any other size yarn and crochet hook. For clothing, I recommend a Sport weight or DK weight yarn, with the corresponding crochet hook size, usually found on the yarn label.
Any questions, feel free to ask. And please enjoy this video! Donna Wolfe from Naztazia

I told my husband that it wouldn't take long for one of my favorite designers to show us how to make Taylor Swift's dress!! Thank you, Donna, soo much for this!
That is awesome!
Brilliant! How cool that Taylor is promoting the craft! Thank you for your creative sharing! Stay well and safe!
Taylor crotchets 😊
Thank you very much!
I just saw her in this dress, said I can make that and came here. Im SO glad you made the tutorial! My favorite crochet teacher ❤️
Thank you so much!
Easiest stitch pattern ever. Love it 💜
Thank you! 😊
Hi Naztazia, you are really a very good teacher, that's the way to teach, not only showing its nice, teaching us right at the start how n what to do. I do appreciate your kindness n time. That's why you are very successful. I learn many from you. Many thanks from the heart.
Wow, thank you so very much! 🥰
I will never wear most of the things I see, but they are fun to look at. I have to wonder what Swift paid for her dress versus how much it would cost an experienced crocheter to make it. There are so many talented people out there.
Granny shell projects work up so fast. I know my sister can make something like this in a lazy afternoon and even take the dogs for a walk in between.
She may have actually ordered it from someone on Etsy. During the NFL season last fall she (or someone from her team) ordered a customized hat from a maker on the site.
The dress is less than 200$ Canadian very affordable but it's super sold out of course
@@itsbasicallyjessica8991yes sold out … it was $159 AUD from what I saw on line .. so less than $200 Canadian
I would like to have that dress but as a coat or jacket. Thank you so much for sharing the pattern and basic instructions. ✌🏻😻🧶
That would be so lovely, I agree! I would totally wear a coat or jacket in this stitch 😊
@@thethriftyfawn right? It would be so cute. And you wouldn't have to have a lining of any kind. You could wear it every day. 😻
You are so welcome!

Please show how to add this to a granny square to increase the length.
Very nice❤❤❤❤
Thanks 😊
Great video but pleaseeee can you do a complete tutorial of making the dress ? You are so easy to follow. Id really benifit by working the dress with you. So many tutorials out there are confusing. I always come to you. Thanks 👍💜 please think about a tutorial for the dress.
Thanks! From an educational perspective, I can show the stitch pattern, since it was vintage, and because the dress itself is a basic construction, I can talk about the rectangles and how it is made. However, to do a step-by-step tutorial would infringe on the original designers rights (who we don't even know, except that this is a VRG GRL dress). So I've shown about as much as I can in the video while still showing respect to the original artist.
Interesting I also took a good hard look at that dress.
Absolutely, the website where the dress originally comes from, Vrg Grl, is good with their closeup photos of multiple angles of the dress, the shape of the dress, plus the seams and how its constructed.
I'd love to see someone make a video showing how to do the increase and decrease for the neckline. This is where I'm stuck. Well I've got the increase figured out. I can't get the decrease though. Any thoughts?
Hi, Thank you for showing how the pattern is made. 🧶🫂
Happy to help!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
thank you
You're welcome!
Lindo❤
Beautiful!! Could you recommend a specific cotton yarn for this dress? There are many types/brands, etc., & sometimes it’s confusing to choose the best. Thank You!!
I'd go with a #2 or 3 anc a larger than recommended hook for better drape
So clear and concise! About how long do you think the dress would take to work up in total?
Depends upon how fast one crochets. I would say on average 15-20 hours for an intermediate to experienced crocheter.
Love it !!! 💜 I saw that exact mannequin on Amazon. I do have a question: Do you know what kind of wood that is for the arms?
To me, it looks like the yarn that is used in the actual dress is 100% acrylic yarn in a fine weight (#2).
I need to make this for a 10 year old - any tips on figuring out sizing please Donna ?
👏👏👏💐💐💐
Hi could you do a tutorial on blocking a finished crocheted work like a beanie?? Thanks.
That can be found in my blocking video: ruclips.net/video/8RmccoE2k9g/видео.html
If you wanted to make this dress. how do you go about figuring out how much yarn to buy?
🙌👍👍👍
How many skeins do you recommend getting to finish this project? Thank you!
Much depends upon the type of yarn used. Thinner yarn will require more yardage, while thicker yarn will require less. A sample 4 inch by 4 inch swatch can be created. Determine how much yarn was used for that sample (1/4 of the skein? 1/2?) and then multiply it from there.
You are av nice person can u tell me how many grams it took for x l dress like thisdress
How do you do the colour changes please?
I have a video showing how to do color changes here: ruclips.net/video/yk3fTD8QbjY/видео.html
@@naztazia thank you ❤️
❤….Where can I buy this yarn?
I used several different brands to try and match the colors. The peach is Michael's Loops & Threads Soft Classic in Light Coral. The brown is Red Heart Super Saver in Cafe Latte. The purple is Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn in 292 Amethyst. The ivory is Hobby Lobby's Crafter's Secret Big Idea in 5 Magnolia Way.
Where can i find the yarn that you used ? ☺️ thanks
I used a variety of ones that I found in my yarn collection that were close to the original dress colors, including Michael’s Loops & Threads Soft Classic in Light Coral. Red Heart Super Saver in Cafe Latte. Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in 292 Amethyst. Hobby Lobby’s Crafter’s Secret Big Idea in 5 Magnolia Way.
can you list the colors that are in the Taylor Swift dress?
☮️🌎🌲
I don't want to make a dress, just the blanket. Where can i find the pattern for just the granny stripes pls?
I have the written instructions on my Naztazia website.
I was looking for the pattern, could not find it
It's on the front page of my Naztazia website.
How much yarn is this?
still how long do u do the front and back and then the arms? do u roll them around? need the hole thing if u can. all videos i have seen u sit and watch them crochet it. never a proper pattern
Much is based upon your own measurements. The initial chain forms the length of the dress from the neck to your knees. Someone taller will have maybe 125 chains while someone not so tall will have 100 chains. The number of rows form the width of the dress. A size S dress will have less rows than an XL dress. The arms are rectangles that are rolled around. Again, the size will differ depending if you have super long arms like I do or shorter ones. This information is covered in the video starting at 04:55
I dont Get it why it is so popular ..maybe because of Taylor ..there are tons og patterns more beautiful than this… thank you Naztazia 😍✌❤🥰
Well I think I will make some major changes to make this dress more modest because Taylor Swift. Yikes!
Just stop 🛑 She wore an under garment. There was no body parts shown. Be nice. It's adorable
I can’t believe how many people here thinks this is good.
I love crocheted blankets but not to wear as a coat or dress!
How revolting!
Proves she has no taste!
I just love your videos they never disappoint you really have help me thru my crochet journey thank you in advance for sharing and your time💜💜💜
Thank you so much!
