I just always liked how the only way to get a golden axe (aka the strongest tool AGAINST plants in the game) was to prove that you cared for nature and would use it wisely
I think hes a druid. Druids are wizards who can commune with nature and he is carrying a staff. That might also explains why he cares so much about the trees and flowers.
his hat isn't really pointed, its flat on top... he still might be a gnome but maybe not. I think he was only in the first animal crossing since he held one of the "hidden" items the golden axe, which they have mixed up in each animal crossing how to get (for the most part). It sounds like another teracotta reference though so he is quite likely to be a gnome.

The mountain sprit first asks him if a silver axe is his and he says no. He is then asked if a golden axe is his to which he responds no as well. The spirit is delighted with his truthfulness and gives him both of the axes. Now this story is a korean adaptation of an Aesop fable and to my knowledge, japan has a similar adaptation to it as well. Stemming from the fact that animal crossing is made in japan NOT in Europe, it’s more likely that Farley is from this story, not the western gnome stories PLUS it would make more sense with the golden axe. But this is just my opinion

I agree with you on why Farley isn't in the newer AC games, and I think it's also because of the less childlike vibe of the newer games, as the players grow up. In ACGC, the well in the plaza has a much more magical vibe. It can talk, telling you of the town’s environment and what could improve it, along with being a place where you can apologize for not completing errands for animals. On New Year’s Day, all the villagers line up at the wishing well to toss a coin into it and make a wish for the new year. It’s kind of like a sacred shrine or confessional, even called the “Bell Shrine” in the Japanese editions. And there's the message on the Island at night that says “Good night. Please leave a message with the moon and stars.” This is all magical and awe-inspiring when you’re a kid in the early 2000s placing ACGC, who believes in everything and knows next to nothing. But by the time you’re a teen or adult playing the later games, those illusions have kind of faded and died, as sad as that is. The reality, as portrayed in WW and CF, is that the player must go to the Civic Center to check on the town’s environment and other goings-on. This might be why the “water well” public works project in NL is much less mystical-looking and just for decoration. Same goes for why Farley is in ACGC but no future games, and maybe for Serena in ACCF (along with the NL fountain being less ornate than the one in CF).

There's about 6 million people who never played the original, and yet say they did, when it's clear they didn't. The indicator? They think Wild World and City Folk are the same game, ignoring the fact that the individual houses have the same upgrades as the original, villager greetings begin each new play session, real world holidays return, Wisp reappears, towns are multiple levels with ramps again, and you can talk to gyroids again (Gyroid from the original is now names Lloid). IGN called City Folk a "mishmash of the previous games" and that's the perfect way to describe it, it's as if they took Wild World and Animal Crossing and mashed them together to give City Folk. Those who say it's a port of Wild World clearly never played the original game.
This video made me realize something. Animal Crossing is cery related to real life. More and more buildings are being made and more industrialization is happening and that’s what’s happening in Animal Crossing towns are becoming more and more industrialized and more places are being introduced like the dream town place, the café, and Club 101. And New Leaf allows you to make more projects almost making the place look like a real town. I believe the switch version will allow u to add more buildings with public work projects and also the city part is going to be even bigger. I never knew Farley until i saw this video because i first played Wild World but this video really interested me. Also another thing of how Animal Crossing is similar to real life is the moon phases are the same to real time moon phases.
Sooooo if there was a Farley, we probably chased them away. The island was deserted then we come and invade it build an airport, houses, museums, shops, decorate and otherwise move it away from being deserted.
