  • For our May 2024 Caribbean cruise on Norwegian Breakaway, we were cruising with my sister and my-brother-in-law. In order to make sure they loved the cruise, we booked rooms in The Haven... the upscale V.I.P. section of the ship that most passengers never have access to.
    In this new travel video, I explain what's so great about The Haven... and then show you what we did at each of the three ports of call the ship visited.
    If you're interested in booking a cruise in The Haven on Norwegian Cruise Line, feel free to use the services of my travel agent, Caitlin Gallagher. Her services don't cost you anything at all, as they are paid for by the cruise line. Caitlin can educate you on the different types of cabins that you can choose from within The Haven, and she'll answer all your questions for you. The best part about booking through a travel agent is that if problems occur, you can leave it to your travel agent to resolve it with the cruise line.
    Visit Caitlin's web site at www.ambrentravel.com or give her a call at 1-904-364-5774.

      Oh, I guess you haven't heard the news. NCL cut their staff of singers/dancers by about half. The ones that did survive the layoffs are used for things like "Burn The Floor", which is not a traditional production show. There were ZERO production shows in the main theater during our cruise. The main theater was used primarily for things like stand up comedy and other non-singing/dancing entertainment.
      The singers/dancers were not housed in regular crew quarters, they lived in passenger cabins. So, by laying so many of them off, NCL is not only saving money by not having to pay their salaries... but also they now have more cabins to sell to passengers. So, NCL management is very proud of this new way to increase profits. They literally bragged about it in a call with Wall Street financial analysts recently. But make no mistake... this move is bad for us passengers.

      @@JimZim thnx for the update. That is a bummer. We saw Choir of Man on an NCL ship, it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Rock of Ages was good too. It sounds like they've 'downscaled' the shows. We haven't done ncl in a long while only bc it hasn't quite fit our available times (but we'll still do them again when we can, when we retire, etc.)

      Wow that is shocking that NCL cut the entertainment staff so much. Very sad news.

      @@JimZimActually, if there are more cabins available for sale, they should be less expensive.

    Looked like you had fun. We have an 11 day Caribbean cruise in December on the Breakaway. We opted for the Haven Forward-Facing Penthouse with Balcony just to try the suite experience with a separated bedroom and living room. We also booked the Lagoon Villa at GSC. You may have changed my mind about Puerto Plata. Last time, they diverted to Amber Cove which we found to be a little disappointing.

    Wow Jim thank you so much for the tip about Puerto Plata as we will be visiting in Oct. We still need to try NCL. Looks like we may do it next year in Hawaii. Thank you for another very well-made video.

    I've cruised on Breakaway 3 times and it can be very crowded and hectic in the general population. I'd love to try the Haven.

    The Haven is nice, but if you REALLY want a luxury "VIP" experience you have to sail Regent.

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  3 месяца назад

      Here's the thing that worries me about Regent, and the other luxury lines. I really don't like to dress up when I'm on vacation. Is it possible to enjoy a nice dinner on Regent in jeans or shorts? My impression of lines like Regent is that dinner is a fancy occasion and that you have to dress up. Correct me if I'm wrong. But in the Haven, you can really wear anything you want to dinner. Some people will be dressed nicely in The Haven restaurant... but it's not required. And out in The Haven Courtyard, you could get away with eating dinner in a bathing suit, if you wanted to.

      @@JimZim I understand that; my remark was in the context of the Haven being referred to as a "VIP" experience which it really isn't. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice experience with some very nice amenities, but it's definitely a notch or two.....(or five) below a true VIP experience.
