    I read some comments of filipinos saying that spanish should be the official language of Philippines. I totally disagree. This is your culture and you should preserve it, you have a beautiful language. I'm from Spain and I honestly think that filipino is as great as spanish, you shouldn't let go your own language.

    • @uiharukazari4956
      @uiharukazari4956 10 лет назад +60

      Aint Hove It’s not about their colonial mentality, in my opinion. They just believe that Spanish should be re-introduced to the country, because, after all, it was once the “official” language (widely spoken by a majority) in The Philippines.

    • @MrTokomaki
      @MrTokomaki 10 лет назад +27

      I strongly agree with you Judith and Aint Hove. I feel it's very important to preserve culture and language for any group of people. What makes a people a people? Culture, history, language, religion, territory, and nationality do. It's time to move on my fellow Filipinos. We must do our best to restore what's been lost during colonial rule if we are to be a genuine people and fit in better with our fellow Asians. It's not too late, not all is lost as most has been in Latin America. We're still Asian and we have our native languages and culture waiting to be revived. ~Proud to be Pinoy :)

    • @JadeReignhart
      @JadeReignhart 10 лет назад +49

      I'm filipino and I never heard filipinos wanted spanish as an official language. But it would be beneficial to learn Spanish. Because where I live many of my friends are Spanish speakers. And in job applications it be useful to be able to speak many languages. Also every time I hear filipinos speak they mix it with English words, bothers the hell out of me

    • @MrTokomaki
      @MrTokomaki 10 лет назад +6

      ***** I agree that it's good to learn another language. It's always good because of job opportunities as you said. I just don't think Spanish should be the national language of our country. As for English, it's the lingua franca of the world, so it's good that Filipinos are good at English. Despite that, I encourage the use of Tagalog and other dialects and cherish our true, Asian aspects. I also cringe whenever I hear English and Spanish mixed into our language and when I hear and see the Spanish names the Spaniards forced upon us. Have you ever seen native Filipino names? They're pretty cool, check them out online!

    Tagalog's philippine language is very similar to the tribe language of Mongondow Bantik and lolak ,the province of North Sulawesi in Indonesia, because according to history many philippines had strayed in the Indonesian part of North Sulawesi, because their ship sank, and eventually they settled and had a family in North Sulawesi. Tagalog language is very similar to the language of 5 tribes in North Sulawesi Indonesia. in Bolaang Mongondow Regency, Minahasa, Manado and Gorontalo, and Sanger Islands
    for examples
    Mongondow : nogogoyon akuoi
    tagalog filipin : nagugutom ako
    Indonesia : aku lapar
    Mongondow : Bahoy
    filipin : bahay
    indonesia : rumah
    Mongondow : Intao
    filipin tagalog : tao
    indonesia : manusia
    mongondow : mobagu
    filipin : bago
    indonesia ; Baru

    Don’t be confused between Filipino and Tagalog. Filipino as the official language of the Philippines recognizes other languages spoken in the country - Tagalog, Ilocano, Kapampangan, Cebuano, and Hiligaynon to name a few. This tutorial is solely the Tagalog language. Tagalog is a Filipino language but not all “Filipino” language is Tagalog. This is to avoid regional biases. Hence, the official language is called Filipino ❤️

    phrases used here are modernized filipino langguage, mostly mix with spanish, but if im not mistaken philippine langguage actually has a deeper tagalog words.
    like example, "lapis" is pencil in modern tagalog, and it's also known as "pluma" in deeper tagalog. "bag" or nap sack is "bag" as well in modern tagalog, and also called in the old days as "tampipi" I can only name some cuz I myself cant find some of the older tagalog words :D

      "There are some chiefs in this island who have on their persons ten or twelve thousand ducats' worth of gold in jewels -to say nothing of the lands, slaves, and mines that they own. There are so many of these chiefs that they are innumerable. Likewise the individual subjects of these chiefs have a great quantity of the said jewels of gold, which they wear on their persons - bracelets, chains, and earrings of solid gold, daggers of gold, and other very rich trinkets. These are generally seen among them, and not only the chiefs and freemen have plenty of these jewels, but even slaves possess and wear golden trinkets upon their persons, openly and freely." - Guido de Lavezaris

    Weird fact my friend's sister's name is Kaila and I just realized Kailan is her sisters name but without the 'n'... also im 25% filipino and yet it is not that hard to speak tegalog. Maybe because when I was little my mom would always watch her Filipino telesaries, well she still does....and my grandma speaks Tagalog a LOT. So i catch up and eventually learn how to speak it, but i cant get some words because they're either too long or i can't pronounce them.....but thanks this helps alot! :-)

      Don't worry about that! We Filipinos are quite friendly to foreigners, we don't see them as ignorant when they're not fluent in Tagalog,( and some even speak in English to help you out). But yeah, it is very useful to learn the locals' language.

    "tao po?" is like a common expression. It has "po" in it because you are still showing respect to a person who owns the home or establishment. "May tao po ba?" is used in a more formal setting because it is showing more respect. Think if it as a more polite way of saying it. And the word ingat is pronounced (ee ngat) the "ng" would be said with the same ng sound you would find in words such as "tongue" and "lung". It sounds like you're saying nat, but you have a slight ng sound to it.

    • @rayge05
      @rayge05 11 лет назад +17

      The spanish invaded and occupied The Philippines for over 300 hundred years so, yes, some words were adopted. Much like English words have been adopted into the local language. However, this is only for the Tagalog language. most of the main dialects are pretty much spanish free. Tagalog is the countries national language but in no way the most spoken dialect in the country, I believe this is because the government is based in the Tagalog region.
      In The Philippines, unlike South American countries, the language was preserved which helped preserved much of the culture.

    Masih satu rumpun sama beberapa suku di indonesia, jadi ada beberapa kata yg mirip atau kalo di pikir pikir memang agak mirip penerapannya dengan beberapa suku di indonesia..
    misalnya ikaw = kamu (kau), salamat = terimakasih (walaupun berbeda jauh tapi kata selamat di indonesia juga digunakan sebagai ucapan apresiasi sama dengan kata terimakasih), ingat = hati-hati, banyo = kamar mandi (atau kalo di bahasa jawa banyu, dalam bahasa jawa penggunaan kata banyu yg artinya air bisa juga diartikan sebagai kamar mandi, contohnya dalam bahasa jawa "mau ke banyu" , artinya mau ke kamar mandi atau ke air)..
    Dan masih banyak lagi..

    hehe as a Chilean I'm surprised with the use of "po" in Tagalog. well, many people can argue that we don't speak Spanish but we officially do, hehe. In Chile we use "po" at the end of a phrase to give more emphasis to the phrase. We use it a lot (and I really mean it) but it is a very informal word. It can be considered impolite if you use "po" in a formal conversation. that is quite the opposite in tagalog.

    Tagalog refers to the ethnic group in the NCR region and the language just like the Bisaya people and Bisaya language, Igorot, Ilokano etc. Filipino are the people so as the national language (Filipino language or simply Filipino) which is basically Tagalog. Not to be confused, Filipino refers both to the people and the language.
