Sicario was mexico though. But you're right. In all those movies...the farther the distance, the more clear & present the danger is ahead. The action is delivered viciously when it comes out too.
Saw this last night and I could NOT take my eyes off the screen. Wonderfully cast, unsettling, tense, and Renner is fucking fantastic. So gripping, and has a massive amount of gravitas as you slowly learn about what he's been through as well. Best he's been since Hurt Locker and The Town, even though he excels in the Avengers films because he's flat out charismatic.
I’m really not aware a bad performance from him. I even really like Hansel and Gretel lol. Imo Id honestly say that Marvel Renner, while being his most popular, is probably his worst work. And it still isn’t bad by any means.
@GiRayne pretty sure that comment was about correcting Jeremy's use of "Indian Reservation" , instead of Native American.. because that doofus Chris Columbus did NOT land in India, afterall.
I live on the real wind River rez, there are currently 10+ young women missing, I think 3 murderers walking free, it’s weird to NOT see sirens hauling ass past my house whether it be BIA or ambulance on a nightly basis, meth fiends all over, alcoholism deadlier than covid-19, this is the Wind River reservation
Taylor Sheridan is great. His scripts offer insight into complex social matters such as economic destitution, violence, and the great disservice that the criminal justice system does to the people it's obligated to safeguard in the troubled regions of the American frontier. What makes this film great like Sicario and Hell or High Water is how Sheridan's writing makes use of those complex backdrops to delve into the internal dynamics of flawed characters. The class-A direction allows subtext to be established with brilliant camera shots of the unforgiving land, thereby making the environment a character of its own. Wind River is the best film of the year so far for me. Let's see if "Blade Runner 2049" will top it.
Rami The Critic YES!!!! Preach the truth. That place was a fucking wasteland scattered with people that had good & bad intentions. This director knows how to film a gritty, grimey, based real events story.
@Fatsnatch Muffdiver Sheridan told a moving tale of grief, friendship, redemption, and how hopeless circumstances influence the decisions undertaken by human beings. Great stuff man!
“Wind River” gave me the same feeling as “Prisoners” when i watched it. Amazing crime stories with stories and characters you get extremely invested into.
Just got back from watching this movie. Easily one of the best films of the year for me. Loved Taylor Sheridan's "Sicario" and I loved "Wind River" even more. This guy's style of telling stories and capturing that engaging, uncomfortable, but satisfying twist throughout is why I can't get enough of his original film-making skills. I'd recommend this movie to people that enjoyed Sicario, 100% .
Olsen's role as the outsider who becomes more invested in the murder is wonderful. When she sees the slain teen's mother cutting herself, she is properly shocked and stunned. My favorite five seconds is when Birmingham opens the door, sees his friend and his face crumbles. Damn fine acting! A helluva shootout, too. The last ten minutes are superbly written.
That's not setting the bar very high. I used to watch 12+ current movies a year, but stopped after 2015. I don't have time for that anymore, there are more movies from the 20th century than the 21st century
I give this film 9/10. The feeling of hopelessness, mystery, isolationism, and loneliness that comes from setting makes it awesome. The climax is so good too Similar feeling to prisoners and a walk on thombstone film
Every year Jeremy has a bizarre new hairstyle. This year is a modified version of last years. 2018 needs to be a bowl cut 2019 Bieber cut 2020 bald head.
I honestly did not expect Elizabeth Olsen to be any good here, the trailers made her look like an amateur actress in her first feature film, seriously I had it that bad in my mind, don't judge me she was great but wow I was surprised
Prisoners is the movie that made me lose faith in the Oscars. That movie was damn great and everyone in it did an excellent job, but the Academy didn't give a fuck xD
An old video, but I’ve recently seen the movie and it’s a fantastic film. The entire story telling about this hits home, as a Native American the story is based off of real events that happen to Native American reservations. This is great since they solved what happen, but usually it doesn’t.
My favorite murder mystery? MEMENTO MEMENTO MEMENTO!!! Please review that movie Jeremy! It's a fantastic Nolan movie that desperately NEEDS your feedback! Please give this a thumbs up if you want Jeremy to review Memento. Thank you.
I loved this movie! It is definitely one that sticks with you afterwards. The acting is great and the movie is great at creating a story without excessive dialogue.
Saw this last night from my dad recommending it. Had never seen a trailer either. Wife and I loved it. I've been waiting for a good murder mystery drama like this for a long time... And we were treated to greatness. Everything about this movie was great... From the beautiful locations, to the acting, to the suspense. You nailed the review.
Jeremy, this is how I watch my movies nowadays : no trailers, no forums that talks about it. I go... I'd say 90% blind and I love my movie experiences even more now that I do that. I don't know what the money shots are and I love it!
Randomly watched Wind River on the plane because it had Hawkeye and…it made me buy the blu-ray, the entire film was just so strikingly, hauntingly well done.

I remember watching Mystic River and thinking, "Oh, God, no..." more times than once. Loved it, but not something I want to watch again. Same with Shutter Island...whew...that ending...
Taylor Sheridan has become one of my favorite screenwriters, and, in my opinion, he is one of the best screenwriters working today. He once said that he likes to get super simple plots for his screenplays, which makes sense. SICARIO is about an FBI agent trying to take down a drug cartel leader, HELL OR HIGH WATER is about two brothers robbing banks and a ranger trying to catch them, and WIND RIVER is essentially a murder mystery, as Jeremy said. What makes his screenplays so brilliant is that these plots are super simple but with a realistic take. They're not complex narratives with a twist end or don't try to be; they're not generic, in terms of execution. It's his characters and their motives and under current of depth, and the realistic takes on these plots that make his screenplays so compelling. Sheridan also said that he has an "allergy for exposition" after reading many scripts, when he was an actor, that had so much exposition. This also makes sense because all his screenplays feel very active, as if this is something you could possibly witness in real life. It doesn't explain key plots through dialogue. If anything, it explains by showing you through brilliant filmmaking. I really enjoyed WIND RIVER. It makes me look forward to what Sheridan has in store as a filmmaker.
1:51 watch the viral Nurse got arrested in Salt Lake City by a detective who forced the same thing. Similar situation. Smh... sometimes the law does things unlawfully.
Im a cop, and very rarely do I watch “cop” a movie and get emotionally invested because they don’t get it right. Wind River... ( I work on First Nations reserves in Canada) had some moments where i felt like i was at work, and a few times in the theatre I shot out of my chair and my wife had to grab my arm and pull Me back down. Sicario, wow tension building. Let me tell you, that film sucked me in, and we all know what scene I’m talking about when I grabbed for my side arm only to grab my empty jeans in the theatre. And Hell or High Water... when Jeff Bridges yells “Ranger Down” I straight up bawled in the theatre
When Olsen is at Renner's house during that great character development scene where Renner just shines, they couldn't stop moving the stupid camera. It's like they gave the camera operator job to Michael J. Fox.
Have a good day WATCHDOG! Thank you for spreading kindness into the comments section and personally made me happy ☺️ Always remember "There is more good in the world than evil".
This is a Oscar worthy film that shows the dark side of living on a native American reversion as this better get nominated for best picture because it's that good.
Awesome, Jahns finally did a review for this movie. I bet Wind River is nominated for a few Oscars this year. Also if anyone is curious about a Netflix review for Little Evil, go ahead and check out the channel.
This movie gave me a lot of The Last of Us "Winter" portion of the game vibes. If TLOU movie ever gets rolling again it'd be dope if Taylor Sheridan got involved in it
By not looking like her probably. But hey, every female fbi agent in a film or series should be a hot chick. That's plausible, right. I'm sure it's just like in reality. Besides, if they want to make a film like the one Jeremy describes, it's better if we don't even recognize the actors IMO, but then nobody would probably go the theaters, so they threw a couple of avengers in there. I'm sure they acted really good, but still.
Denislav Dankin The fuck you talking about? You are saying that someone cant be convincing in a role because he/she is hot? How dumb is that. Just like James Cameron talking shit about WW because she is too hot to be a good character. Just fucking stupid. Oh and yeah, not everyone find Elizabeth Olsen hot. People have different taste.
Definitely coming to watch this when it comes out in UK. Also last week I watched Logan Lucky, also a really good film but I want to see your critique on it.
The revenant is kinda like a manhunt movie isn't it ? That's m'y favorite emotional movie, the soundtrack is extremly good, i listen to it i feel the loneliness of the caracter and the cold etc just amazing
Jeremy, big fan here. I now you don't review anime movies usually, but please review "your name", I think it came out here in the US in theaters to. Really really recommend it. And if you don't want, please say it, I hate to not know if I was read or not.
Really liked it, but a few scenes the camera work bothered me. The most major time was when Renner was talking to Olsen in his house (all I am going to say). It is two people talking, but the camera was waving around like the operator was drunk. I felt like I was getting motion sickness. I am not sure why so many movies do this, and with this level. Besides that though, easily one of the best films I saw all year
True, I noticed the shaky cam a few times. Outside it felt natural and when action hit hard it was perfect, but in a quiet indoors conversation it was distracting.
I noticed that too lol, also the scene where the FBI agent walks in on the mans wife cutting herself and she just walks out was lowkey dumb. Nobody in the house did anything they just stood there as she went to town on her wrists lmao
She was grieving the loss of her daughter. In some Native American cultures, that type self harm is an expression of their grief. The husband KNEW what his wife was doing, hence his attitude when FBI Jane asked to speak to her.
encchick2 yeah I understood that he knew but as an FBI agent you’d think her immediate reaction is to comfort hurt and try to convince her to stop lool
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I went in with no knowledge of the story or expectations and, as you said, came out a little different. The final shot, the statistic is shocking. I appreciated the straightforward storytelling. There was no need for a big twist or third act shenanigans. All the interactions/events built towards an earned confrontation and conclusion. I especially liked that the Cold and the setting (Wind River) were characters in the story as much as Renner's hunter and Olsen's FBI Agent.
Definitely a dark movie. Really enjoyed the exposure that small towners and Natives got about the inequality and disadvantages that they deal with. Great eye opener for those not familiar with small town struggles/ minority populations.
*Spoiler* The movie was good. The worst of the three he’s made recently but it was still good. Movies like this should leave a bit of possibility to guess or understand who did it before revealing. Choosing a random person as the villain was a tad bit of a letdown. But even with that style he could’ve at least put more emphasis on the boredom and lack of women that everyone was complaining about causing for the rape and murder. But overall the movie was solid and worth the watch
MOVIES: Good writers tell a good story that hits your intellectually, Good Directors convey the story into images and sound communicating to the physical senses, and Good Acting conveys the heart and soul of the character or a story ALL Three are needed. Think of the the movie the GodFather, The Pianist, Spotlight, Blind Side, shawshank redemption, It's a Wonderful Life, LA Confidential, ,.. Great stories- intriguing, Great Direction -images and sound, and Great Actors,...that hit your Souls
I've been disagreeing with you on many of your reviews I've watched lately (and I hate that, because I really love your channel... even though I frequently have done so in the past... and I know we don't have to agree). I'm just so glad that you and I agree on this one! It was an excellent film. Thumbs!
This is one of my favorite movies. Even though it’s such a hard movie to watch I find myself watching it repeatedly whenever I don’t know what else to watch
Your review truly made me rethink this movie and I'll watch it again, so thanks. I'm so glad you liked it, and I think it's partly since you had no expectation going in. I, in contrast, waited for months for this movie. I love Renner, and I love Hell or High Water. I also love westerns and man hunt type films. I felt let down by Wind River, because there is hardly any actual "tracking" or "man hunting" in the movie. Corey (Renner) and Jane (Olsen) go to a few places where people tell them the next clue, then they go there. Snowmobile tracks are looked at once. Footprints once. That's it for tracking. It was built up as a western mystery from the trailers, but there is little mystery to it. So I'm going to put my baggage aside and watch this again for what it is. Thanks for the review!
This movie was great, the opening scene pulls you right in, it’s intense, it’s suspenseful and really makes you excited to unfold this upcoming mystery, Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen are both fantastic, in particular Jeremy Renner, he’s this really tough, no nonsense detective who doesn’t take crap from anyone and he is so entertaining to watch, and with a character like that it really helps that the dialogue is really good too, the 2 coincide to make the character and dialogue aspects of the movie hands down the best part of the whole experience, also another aspect I really loved is the scenery, this movie is absolutely gorgeous, there are so many wide shots of characters from afar when they’re climbing up a hill or walking through a gigantic space of land and it just looks insane, the cinematography is just jaw-dropping, I cannot stress enough how pretty this movie is to look at, also when the violence is going down it’s damn brutal, it’s not done in a way that’s supposed to be “cool” but still it is pretty exciting, in particular a big shootout scene between a ton of the characters that I just ate up and absolutely loved, and I love a good mystery so the story really entertained me too, I guess if I had a gripe with this movie is that sometimes the movie can get a little repetitive in its plot, they’re investigating this girl’s murder so their are quite a few familiar interrogation scenes that happen throughout the movie but honestly it wasn’t a huge distraction that and sometimes it can get a little slow but never too much to where I truly got bored and checked out of the movie, overall I was really surprised by Wind River, going into it I really doubted that this would be a kind of movie I would enjoy, I honestly thought it looked kinda boring, man was I wrong, this movie had top notch acting, gorgeous cinematography and scenery, a fair amount of excitement and a really great finale, this movie was damn great. 8/10
Sicario, Hell or High Water, Wind River - Taylor Sheridan's trilogy of terrible places to live in America.
He needs to make a movie about Florida asap.
Rubber Ducky as a Floridian I agree!
Sicario was mexico though. But you're right. In all those movies...the farther the distance, the more clear & present the danger is ahead. The action is delivered viciously when it comes out too.
Fatsnatch Muffdiver technically Mexico is in America.
Why?
Wind River was a great movie.
DragoNYC most underrated movie of 2017. FACT

Prisoner's with Hugh Jackman is one of the best murder mysteries I have seen in my opinion.

Denis Villeneuve hasn't made a bad film so far. I have nothing but faith in him as he said "Blade Runner 2049" is his best work.
Matt kid Hugh should have took home an Oscar or Academy. They fucked him over.
Just thought Prisoner's scroll down and see your comment at the top=)
Matt kid Thank you for the recommendation.
No, the setting is a Native American reservation. And as a Native myself, it's spot on how reservations are.
Coz the writer actually lived in that reservation.

It seems like to make a good movie, you don't necessarily need good actors or actresses. You just simply need a good writer.
And a good director.

the acting of emotions on the father's face when he opens the door to Renner's character. Hit me like a tonne of bricks. couldn't stop crying
jokersmidnightshow really? Must be an awesome film
did you see it yet? =)
Fox.
Patriots Day hit me hard
Yeah it got me harder than deep water horizon
Lone survivor got me the deepest
It's because it's fake
+Cuz I'm a wanderer nah Deepwater got me harder
Hey Jeremy, are you going to review Ingrid goes west?
I hope you all have a wonderful day. 😁😁
WATCHD0G Thanks man same with you from Ireland 🇮🇪.
Matt kid love from Nigeria 😁 🇳🇬
WATCHD0G good vibes. Have a good day too man
WATCHD0G cheers man, you too ✌
Have a good day WATCHDOG! Thank you for spreading kindness into the comments section and personally made me happy ☺️ Always remember "There is more good in the world than evil".
This is a Oscar worthy film that shows the dark side of living on a native American reversion as this better get nominated for best picture because it's that good.
Nocturnal Animals was intense af
Hey Jeremy, can you review the mist (Netflix series)?
Awesome, Jahns finally did a review for this movie. I bet Wind River is nominated for a few Oscars this year. Also if anyone is curious about a Netflix review for Little Evil, go ahead and check out the channel.
The Media Phoenix agreed 💯💯👏🏽👏🏽
This movie gave me a lot of The Last of Us "Winter" portion of the game vibes. If TLOU movie ever gets rolling again it'd be dope if Taylor Sheridan got involved in it
Elizabeth Olsen totally looks like an FBI agent...
XD
Denislav Dankin How does one look like an FBI agent?
Denislav Dankin "I....AM.....AN....FBI.... AGENT!" Thanks Keanu
21 grams is a great movie in this genre.
The revenant is kinda like a manhunt movie isn't it ? That's m'y favorite emotional movie, the soundtrack is extremly good, i listen to it i feel the loneliness of the caracter and the cold etc just amazing
Best murder mystery is Chinatown all the way
Jeremy, big fan here. I now you don't review anime movies usually, but please review "your name", I think it came out here in the US in theaters to. Really really recommend it. And if you don't want, please say it, I hate to not know if I was read or not.
And if you can, please see it in Japanese with English subtitles, sounds better. That's it, hope you have a good day.

How did this get 60 likes
Nice new hair cut and jacket. The review is also fine as always and the movie reminds me a little bit on the Prisoner with Hugh Jackman.
Did not notice due to fluid build up in seeing organs
Hi Jeremy,
Could you please review "Once Upon a Time In America?
Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch
and the Punisher :o
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I went in with no knowledge of the story or expectations and, as you said, came out a little different. The final shot, the statistic is shocking. I appreciated the straightforward storytelling. There was no need for a big twist or third act shenanigans. All the interactions/events built towards an earned confrontation and conclusion. I especially liked that the Cold and the setting (Wind River) were characters in the story as much as Renner's hunter and Olsen's FBI Agent.
Jeremy Renner has come a long way from being discount Bourne.
I like his discount Bourne just fine.
Hey can you review a Stephen king mini-series that was oh so good? "Storm Of The Century". I'd like your take on it please?
The Hurt Locker is Jeremy Renner's best performance.
Definitely a dark movie. Really enjoyed the exposure that small towners and Natives got about the inequality and disadvantages that they deal with. Great eye opener for those not familiar with small town struggles/ minority populations.
Great video
Read the synopsis for this movie..and it sounds very good, though it does bring up a major issue near the end. Do plan to see it now.
*Spoiler*
The movie was good.
4bsfun intellectial has nothing to do with it intellectual..it emotes..this pseudo intellectual shit is getting boorish.
IT review coming soon to a RUclips channel near you
william the gecko wallace tbh tho. Still waiting. It has to be awesometacular
I've been disagreeing with you on many of your reviews I've watched lately (and I hate that, because I really love your channel... even though I frequently have done so in the past... and I know we don't have to agree). I'm just so glad that you and I agree on this one! It was an excellent film. Thumbs!
Anyone else have trouble remembering the name of this movie? Wild River, Win River, Windy River . . .just me? Ok
Larry Kenshalo I thought it was winter river lol
Saw it at Sundance. I was blown away. I got to meet Taylor too. Awesome time
Best murder mystery is hands down Persona 4.
This hasn't come out yet in the U.K, but after watching your review I'm definitely going to go out and watch it when it does come out!
What are we? Some kind of Wind River?
Mandatory Suicide Squad diss is mandatory.
Leslie Knope After almost a year since it came out...not really necessary.
Preview Review it's a timeless meme, my friend.
Leslie Knope In another year it's going to be an outdated joke.
Preview Review Oh, I think we are way past that already
Leslie Knope outdated
The way cory executed every single one of them at the end was just BEAUTIFUL
Review riverdale!!!!
The Joker No offense but NO! -_-
Sebastian Joseph Why? Someone said it was a cult classic like "Heathers". Is it good? Never viewed it.
No
Hey Jeremy! How about taking a look at the Sopranos? Great show.
This is one of my favorite movies. Even though it’s such a hard movie to watch I find myself watching it repeatedly whenever I don’t know what else to watch
'I'm hard pressed to find a role he's this good in' (talking about Renner)?? C'mon bro, hurt locker anyone?
What is the poem called ?
Could you please review Good Time?
