Not only Kenya...its all over Africa. I've seen it in Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, and I had a personal experience in America with a Somali family that refused to marry their daughter to me after the girl agreed to marry me. Her family's reason was that, "I didn't speak the Somali language and that her mother would not be able to communicate if there was a dispute between us!" I swear tribalism is the BIGGEST FITNAH in the Muslim community...!

One of the things that struck me about Mawlana Rumi (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) was His view on women.
Please Note, He (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) said the following 800 years ago.
On the day of His son's wedding, Mawlana Rumi (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) said:
Oh my son, if you give your wife a hard time and she complains about you, I will not come to your funeral prayer. You have to spend every night with your wife as if it were the first night of your marriage.
It's the nature of an animal to overpower; however, it's the nature of angels to accept being overpowered.
If you become like an animal, it's then that you overpower your wife. But if she overpowers you, you become like an angel.

Haq Se Hyderabadi Salaam brother, this is Sufism, specially M Rumi (Ra) words are not to be understood literally.
If you have read Rumi (Ra) books you'll understand what he refers animal and what he refers to angel and especially the on going fight between both.
According to my opinion this statement refers to those man who by their bodily (animal) nature start getting bored with their wives and start looking elsewhere. Look for example, He (Ra) mentioned your first night. Allah knows best.

Great speech. As usual the Shaykh makes us reflect on ourselves and our living conditions. But this time there's a little flat in his speech…
(9:37) If they were in Africa right now they will say who are you?
He should rather say : If they were in some places in Africa right now they will …
Because this is no longer an reality in many places in Africa for example in Senegal (I know what I'm talking about since I'm Senegalese and I live in Senegal)
Anecdote : The other day, I was in a taxi with three other passengers, one of them was a « Toucouleur » and the driver was a « Serere » (two tribes who identify themselves with their strong accents when they speak Wolof).
When it was time to pay for the trip, the driver said : it's 100cfa ($ 0.18) each except for the toucouleur who has to pay 200cfa, and the toucouleur was saying that the trip will be free for him since the driver was a serer and he was worried for his safety. Everyone was laughing. Here in Sénégal we always joke on tribes differences. That’s why what happened in Rwanda in 1994 between Hutu and Tutsi can not happen in Senegal and in many other places in Africa. My point is to avoid generalization which can lead to a misinterpretation of the living conditions of a million of peoples.
But we get the point : No one is better than others
Cheikh Birahim Ndao asalamualaikum brother. I am from The Gambia and I do concur with the sheikh. He is not saying that this is the norm in every part of Africa. There is a mandinka saying that "if they say that there is low tide at sea, it doesn't mean all the water has dried up at sea". The issue of tribalism is clearly a problem in many parts of Africa. Although some parts are moving on due to their knowledge of deen and education. Also remember that Hamza Yusuf spent time in the sub Saharan countries and is not like, he is oblivious about tribalism in Africa. My take.
Trabilism kills many parts of Africa. Somalia can be a perfect example to showcase this. Although Somalis belongs to one ethnic group who have one religion and language, we're, unfortunately, killing each other nearly three decades along clan lines. Which means we divided ourselves across various sub-clans and each sub-clan has become clever to wage war against the neighboring one.
So, trabilism coupled with resource scarcity has held the country back to unceased civil war except Somaliland, the northern part of the country, which already declared independence from the rest of Somalia.

kind of strong message expecialy about tribalism. Also I understud tribalism can be addressed like nacionalism and chauvinism. Here on Balkan and Bosnia during the wars of the 90's, we had a terrible explosion of nationalism with elements of fascism. Unfortunately, even today, 25 years after the war, politics and ideology have not changed, they only have the make-up of democracy. Unfortunately, religious communities (Christians and Islamic) also often support radical nationalisms. Its very denger and also rise of right wings in Europe Union Is the problematic. Btw today on 9th May Is days of Europe and antifascism. Selam

The Europeans were the ones, who in many ways, pushed tribalism. As a means to conquer and divide, the Ashanti Empire was a Giant in terms of a large empire-where all were Citizens.

8 major benefits of Astaghfar in the Quran.
1. It opens the doors of mercy.
The Quran says, “Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver.”[Quran 71:10]
2. It will give you wealth and children.
The Quran says, “And give you increase in wealth and children.” [Quran, 71:12]
3. A Believer’s Dua gets accepted.
There’s nothing better for a believer that all the duas that he or she makes in hopes that they will one day get accepted by their lord, actually get fulfilled. Astagfirullah has the power to make a Muslim’s duas get accepted.
4. Astagfar provides sustenance.
The Quran says, “Seek forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him, [and] He will let you enjoy a good provision for a specified term and give every doer of favour his favour” [Quran, 11:3]
5. A Muslim is not punished while they seek forgiveness.
The Quran says, “And Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness ” [Quran, 8:33]
6. Allah will send the rain of mercy.
The Quran says, “He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers.” [Quran, 71:11]
7. Adding strength in our lives.
The Quran says, “. . . ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers and increase you in strength [added] to your strength.” [Quran 11:52]
8. Allah will provide you with gardens and rivers.
The Quran says, “. . . and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.” [Quran, 71:12]
