اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوْذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وَ أنَا أَعْلَمُ وَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ مِمَّا لَا أَعْلَمُ
Or
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوْذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وَ أنَا أَعْلَمُ وَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ
3 times in the morning and 3 times in the evening for Riya
Do it in your Sajdah, Do it after your Prayers, Do it before your Prayers, Do it whenever you feel that feeling (of showing off) is coming over you
The Du'a is at 8:15
Alhamdulillah, Sheikh Hamza Yusuf is a real Jem of our Ummah in this age. May Allah give him a long life.

i have a non-Muslim friend, and he knew a lot about Islam. He asked me who is my favorite scholar and i said,...... and then he said to me his favorite scholar is Hamza Yusuf. and i was like, i heard about him, but never really listen to his lecture. It was a shame for me really, a non-Muslim who is really seeking for the truth, they really into the search and so on. I was lucky to listen from him that day cause i find Hamza Yusuf lecture is good and beneficial. Thanks for the video:)

what I understood that he never missed takbeee oola in 20 years. And when he missed he felt ashamed to pray. He thought that what would people think of me If he was doing it for ALLAH he would have never felt ashamed of missing takbeer oola.. The man had a good heart and imaan and he realised his mistake

Love the sheikh since 2000, have too disagree with his final point, get benefit from wherever it comes from, unfortunately, unless you read and fully comprehend Arabic, translated stuff is limited so we find them easier in our native languages. He probably disagrees now with that statement he made way back then too, Allah u alim.

Shirk is so easy to commit the human soul is tempted to incline towards it. We always need reminders (reminders benefit the believers) and to keep checking ourselves
I learned this from seeing my kid he started basically worshipping his favourite obsession (washing machine) saying stuff like thank the washing machine for everything! When I said thank you Allah for everything. He also basically spoke about that machine day and night the first words out of his mouth each morning etc! And when he made the thank you for everything to the APPLIANCE, I had to correct him and replace it and he stopped doing that n understood but it made me amazed
Even an innocent child with no ulterior motive can accidentally in play start inclining toward shirk!

Because Allah wants the best for us and the best action to have is patience in the face of adversity. To not lose control of yourself when a calamity hits you. Remember Allah loves us more than our parents.
It's a great question! I'll give you the answer as per the Islamic tradition, forgive me if I seem preachy but my intention is only to answer your question. It's not about Allah caring or not, it doesn't make a difference to Allah whether you have patience or not. It's about allowing you to free yourself from the desires of this world that end up enslaving us to no end. If you free yourself from your lust for power, wealth, sexual gratification, drugs, your 'happiness' becomes unstoppable. The only way for not only you, but for an entire society to free itself is through worship of Allah. If you truly have faith in an afterlife, all your desires will be eternally fulfilled as long as you are patient in this world.
